*POSSIBLE SPOILERS* I wasn't sure what to expect of this movie. I only knew that my daughter and I love dragons, and any dragon movie to celebrate her good report card and my acceptance into a competitive college program and the end of the week was a good thing. But this was more than a good thing. Again, Wow! First of all, 3D has gotten better and better over the years, and this movie was the perfect vehicle for its dazzling special effects. This movie has heart, in my opinion, and a family drama that every parent AND child can relate to. I'm not afraid to say I misted a bit towards the end. For all dragon lovers, I think you will find this movie rocks dragon lore and more! And the voices of Gerard Butler and Craig Ferguson as huge Vikings were delightful surprises. This movie was funny, exciting, exhilirating, moving, and just plain fun! Go see it!!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I took my rather sophisticated 12 year old daughter to see How to Train Your Dragon. After the spate of truly moronic previews, I was worried that she was finally "too old" for this kind of movie. Fortunately, the folks at Dreamworks (owing much, of course, to the Pixar folks before them) have figured out how to make a movie that appeals to audiences at multiple levels.
The story was pretty formulaic (nerdy kid doesn't fit in, but his creativity saves everyone in the end), but they inserted enough unique touches to keep everyone engaged. The visual style was nice and quirky, which added a real sense of fun. Imagine Hobbiton from LOTR distorted so that everything looks like it could topple over at any minute.
They didn't overdo the 3D aspect of the movie, which I appreciated. It was very effective in the dragon flying sequences. The animators did some amazing things with clouds and fog in this movie. At times, I almost felt the chill myself.
I thought that the battle sequences near the end went on a little too long, but the kids in the audience seemed to eat it up. When the fate of the hero was in doubt, I heard a little kid in the audience gasp, "What happened to Hiccup?" Clearly, the movie worked for him!
I've seen some pretty bad movies that pass for family entertainment. This one mostly works and doesn't insult your intelligence (or that of your kid). Definitely worth checking out.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Took 4 boys ages 5-9 and grandma...everyone enjoyed the touching story and fantastic 3-D effects. Completely worth the price of admission...in fact, we'd see it again.

We went to see the Dragon movie in 3D last night and it was really enjoyable even for the adults. It was a bit scary for my 5 year old who asked me to sit next to her during pieces of the movie. The 3D effects were awesome and the storyline was very interesting. Great family movie!

I am usually a harsh judge of CG movies. Either it's the art that is great but the story lacks, or visa versa. I definitely prefer a good story over the art, but for this movie, the two elements went hand in hand. A job well done. I intend to purchase once it's available on dvd.

This movie is heartwarming and simply amazing. The visual effects were stunning, especially in 3D, you felt like you were flying with the dragon. This movie is about a coming of age story about a young boy named Hiccup that just cannot find his place in his small viking village bringing constant embarrassment to his father who is the leader of the village. Hiccup does find his place but not in the way he thought he would. The story line is well developed and the movie leaves you wanting it to never end. Your family will enjoy this so much, it is sure to be a classic!

Great movie! Some of the scenes did frighten my 6 year-daughter, but they didn't seem to bother other children. I wasn't impressed by viewing it in 3D.

This is a movie the whole family will enjoy! Excellent 3D movie. The young awkward Viking boy's father wants him to learn to kill dragons, but his heart isn't in it...especially after his befriends one! This is a great story, and the voices and expressions of the characters. and of the other dragons are fanastic. Great ending! The 3D effects are great. Overall, an excellent family movie that I recommend very highly!

Dreamworks sculpts a fun, exciting 3D tale of adventure that is perfect for every age. Every bit as enjoyable as Avatar and it may take the "riding on the back of a flying reptile" experience to a whole new level of visual amazement! Intertwined with gorgeous next generation 3D animation is an engaging story about a Viking lad who is anxious to be accepted as a "great viking warrior" but finds a different path to the realization of his inherent potential. Into this fantastical, textured, colorful journey we are invited along for a great ride. Fun for all! Don't miss it in a 3D theater.

"A hapless young Viking who aspires to hunt dragons becomes the unlikely owner of a young dragon himself, and learns there may be more to the creatures than he assumed."
I don't go to the movie theatre often. I believe, in the past two years, I've seen - including How To Train Your Dragon - four movies. I'm like most people: can't be arse to go to the theatre, having to pay the exorbitant prices and pretty tired of the same old plots and lackluster acting. But this movie, I had seen all the adverts and I'm a loyal fan of The Late Late Show - who's host we can thank for the amiably and piecemeal-ed viking, Gobber, I couldn't help but be drawn to this movie.
I was definitely not disappointed by this film. It was fun. It was exciting. It just had everything. It was happy, sad, sarcastic; it had beautiful animation - just everything. This isn't just a movie for kids. I went with my 65-year-old Mother and she enjoyed just as much as I - being 20 - and as much at the teenagers that were behind us. If we had gone to a "regular" showing and not the midnight premiere, I'm positive that children and their parents would be just as pleased.
I mean, to put it any simpler, how could you not like a movie featuring dragons, vikings, fire, hilarity and the whole gamut?
I wholeheartedly recommend this movie for any - regardless of age, et cetera.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
