Why is it that animated films always have better plots than live action movies?
The film is wonderful, the main dragon acted way too much like my cat, and the voice actors were great.
The 3D was a nice enhancement, but the story itself carried the movie It wasn't life or death important to view it in 3D, especially with the price increase for 3D films.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

With the singular exception that, as many associated with Scottish heritage know, viking is a verb, not a noun, this was a fun movie nicely done. The dragon stylizations were original. Hadn't encountered a black dragon with an electrical attach before, so, nice job defining an original mythos for this movie. Geeks like me appreciate the hero, who applies his natural gifts, eagerness to learn, creativity and love for fellow creatures while beleaguered by muscle-bound brutes who berate him using their definitions of what's best / popular / acceptable through their limited capacity for understanding of the world around them and wonders that are in it. I was also pleased by the hero's grace in a total lack of malice for those same brutes toward which he never shows even the slightest inclination toward retribution. Very positive on many levels.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

We took our two teenagers to see this movie in 3D. We all enjoyed it so much! The graphics are incredible. The story is very touching and nothing in the film was inappropriate! It was so refreshing to see a movie with my family that we all loved!

We went yesterday with our children ages 7 and 11 and my parents. Everyone enjoyed it and thought that the 3D definitely added to the experience especially during the flying scenes. However, the toddler two rows back did not enjoy it. It does have some scary parts for a very young child. I wouldn't take a child uder 5 years old.

I took my boys (5 and 7) and older nephews to see this movie in 3-D. All five of us loved it. The story was touching (my older son cried for the main character's problems in the middle of the movie), and had a wonderful happy ending. The animation, especially scenes of dragon flight, was thrilling.

Liked the movie, not as many 3D features as expected but enjoyed it! Could have been a little expanded in the end to "knit" the whole story together, but loved it any way 5 stars!!

I can give no higher praise to Dreamworks "How to Train Your Dragon" than to say that it is the first non-Pixar computer-animated movie to exhibit complete mastery of the medium on both technical and storytelling levels. The craftsmen behind this wonderful and engaging piece of art should be proud, for they have (at long last) reached the sublime.

"How to Train Your Dragon" is another step in the right direction for Dreamworks Animation. Along with most of the other major contenders in 3D Animation, Dreamworks has realized that Pixar's success is due not only to disciplined, beautiful character modeling/design and skilled animation, but in large part because the realize that without a good story, their movies are dead out of the gate.
Along with the surprising success and depth of character/story of 2008's Kung Fu Panda, this movie aims to give Pixar a run for their money. An excellent tale with a cast of interesting characters, "How to Train Your Dragon" is a treat that rivals Pixar's offerings. I caught this movie this weekend along with my 6 year old son, and I enjoyed it almost as much as he did.
Story is King.
On a side note, I did see this in 3D, and I must admit that the movie didn't gain much from it. Don't feel obligated to catch this one in the third dimension- it's equally enjoyable without the glasses.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Great animation and graphics, but more importantly... there was a story and a message to tell. Unlike just a special effects movie, I was drawn into the characters and had fun. I don't usually like "children" type films, this worked great for both kids and adults!

I saw this movie with 7 other preteens and my preteen. They all loved it, mom included. Not many 3D scenes, so seeing it in 2D is fine too. The soaring flight scenes on the dragon are a sight to behold. The movies has a strong message without being too corny, a hollywood ending with a slight imperfection. Go see this movie, it is a good-feel movie.

You don't have to be a kid to love this one ! In fact, dome of the really young kids might be a bit frightened of the fighting dragons scene as were a couple of the kids in the movie. But let me tell you we loved, loved, loved thid movie. I'm actually contemplating going to see it again - and I never go to see movies twice in the theater because they are so expensive.
For me, the #d is really worth the extra $ !

I saw this movie with my 12-year old daughter, and we loved it! I thought it was amazingly animated, colorful, and visually exciting. All of the characters seemed real and full of personality (not to mention, the teenage girl viking has THE BEST sense of style). But what I loved the most was the story, which had an important message for everyone. I laughed and cried, and might even see it again. This is a must-see!

My sons would give this one four thumbs up! Lots of good action to keep the little ones attention while providing enough storyline and humor to entertain the adults! My sons would have been just as happy to see the movie in a stndard format though. The 3D effects weren't as spectacular as they will billed, but they did not detract from the movie either. While the 3D effects of the movie could have been better, the boys stayed in their seats and kept their eys on the screen. So, I have to say this is a movie worth seeing!

This movie was amazing. Really amazing and loveable characters. A very good variety of Dragons and each one has it's own special abilities. I really like that the angle of the viewer was slighty begind the Dragon rider because it really looked as though you were there flying with them and it really made you a part of the movie. This is a must see and it is really great in 3D.
