When I got the book, I could only get through part of it because I thought it was so unrealistic that a young, single professional woman would drop everything to "find herself." Traveling like that gets expensive!
I did enjoy seeing Julia Roberts again, and the spirituality of the movie was the main character, which was so refreshing, as most of us are always seeking "inner peace" and saying goodbye to our demons. I wasn't sure about how/why they began the movie the way they did...it seemed to start out of nowhere, and the plotline wasn't very grounded; it jumped around a lot. The co-stars were well-cast and the cinematography was stunning. It makes one want to visit those places.

I recieved the book as a christmas gift last year....and started working on it this summer...to my pleasant surprise I then learned there would be a movie!!!!! I went and saw it the night it came out, and was thrilled!!! Having read the book I felt like I built a relationship w/ the characters already...I knew the funny little lines, I was excited for Richard from Texas to call her "Groceries" etc. I thought it was absolutely perfect....I loved it!!!! You must go see this movie!!! It will open your eyes, and your heart!!

There are certain beliefs people have. One that unless you are poor you don't know struggle. Second that they have the right to degrade someone's art when they don't know what went into it.
This movie is honest, and true to the book in many areas. It tells a woman's story and begs us all to let go of the life that has made us driven.Whether it be a conversation about not worrying about our weight, or an understanding that at some point we all have to face our demons and make a choice. Believe, or succumb. One of the reasons this book was successful, was that each of us-I personally believe-was faced at one point with a decision to live the best life we knew how. And however much her religious views may differ from mine, I do believe in the search. The bigger testimony is that each character in this movie tried to live outside of their fear. Ms. Roberts acting was perfect for this rendition, as was Viola Davis. Plan B continues to show that as a production studio it is producing smart movies.
Go see it, and let go.

I agree with one of the other posts - does make you a bit hungry. The scenes were beautiful and took you to places you've never been. I loved the fact our theatre served 3 dishes from the areas she visited in the movie. Julia is an awesome actress and overall the movie was pretty good. The story could have had a bit more fluidity but it was still a good night out at the movies.

The movie is wonderful--a piece of entertaining, well done fluff with beautiful scenery of places you've traveled to or want to see in the future. The Ziegfield/Clearview Movie Theater at 54th Street has broken ticket machines, so that you cannot get the tickets you've bought
ahead of time either on the phone or the internet printed. This entails lengthy discussions with the personnel and ultimately with the manager. Wouldn't you think they could get these machines fixed???

Incredible movie with a theme to which I can relate. Liz's (Julia Roberts) feelings are totally believable and understandable. She had the guts to do what so many women want to do but cannot for various reasons. I highly recommend this movie to any woman who has felt alone, stuck, lost, hurt, and in need of a drastic change. I am much like Liz and will be embarking on my own journey in three weeks as I travel abroad to teach for a year. My whole life as I know it will fit in a 10x10 storage unit. See the movie...you will understand.

Beware! This movie makes you hungry for carbs. The Italy food porn scenes were terrific as well as the cinematography. Julia Roberts was charming and beautiful. Richard Jenkins was witty and had some nice memorable lines. I wished that they had picked a cuter Bali boyfriend for Julia. 133 minutes of living vicariously. Good Summer Flick!!

Saw the movie because of Julia Roberts. She was fun to see and the scenery in the movie was great.. The movie dragged a bit and it was hard to like the self-absorbed character, Liz. All in all, good film, but the story was so-so.

Have not seen it yet. However, I Loved Julia in Pretty Woman, The Pelican Brief, Conspiracy Theory, and Erin Brokovich. Of course, she can act, my Gosh!! She is brilliant! I am not sure if this will be a good movie role for her, but considering her age it may work very well. This will be a different kind of movie for her and what we really need now are different movies. If she can pull it off, it may very well be worth the ticket price. I plan to see it the opening Day!
