I really enjoyed the movie, and I thought it was great. But I just couldn't give it 5 stars. There were some things that I thought were left out that should have been shown. And HBP has never been my favorite of the books either. I thought it served it's purpose well, but as a stand alone film has some significant flaws.

Let's start by saying that movies are rarely, if ever, "just like the book" and I get that. That's fine. Sometimes tweaks need to be made to make the movie more interesting, flow better, etc.
However, this movie as a book adaptation, was an absolute abomination to Potter fans. Several KEY events were bungled and my fiance and I left the theater saying "HUH?" As a fervent Potter reader, I was just stunned at one big scene that happened in the movie, which shouldn't have- some of the things they did are going to make problems for the 7th/8th movies.
The movie in and of itself was good- entertaining, funny, and it certainly didn't feel like its running length. I would see it again, but this time keeping in mind how inaccurate it was.

I do not think the movie had as much action as the past movies, although this did follow the book much more closely and gave the actors much more personality, especially Draco. It did show them growing into adulthood. You almost had to feel sorry for Draco being all alone all the time.

Spoiler: How does Harry know what a Beazor is or does, why does Dumbledore take Harry to the Weasely's? Why do the Death Eaters attack the Burrow at Christmas and why is it undefended if they are in such danger? Why on earth would Harry, knowing EXACTLY what Draco is up to and that Snape has made an unbreakable vow to help him, simply stand there and do nothing while Snape kills Dumbledore?
No idea? Me either, even the book doesn't explain the ending because in the book it happens different and makes complete sense. While the film is funny and engaging, in the end you can't really make sense of any of it.

This is the first of the movie series that I read the book before seeing the movie. I understood the movie much better. For those that haven't read, may not fully understand characters and some plot details. Should have been more indepth about some things. Beautifully shot. Enjoyed the whole experience. Win: Great acting from Slughorn and Draco, who, with little dialogue gives a great performance of a selfish little boy growing into a complicated teen.
Ron steals the show of the core three.
Fail: Cut an hour of panning, Twilight-like mooning shots from the first half, leave this to the dialogue.
If there are only going to be two main action scenes then film them correctly! The ending was pathetic and even the aftermath "crowd around with wands" didn't have a decent emotional adagio to go with it!
Result: See it for the series and the actors, not based on the high hopes of earlier films: worst of the six

I haven't read any of the books, however, I have seen all of the movies. This movie was quite a bit different than the previous ones. Definitely darker, but humorous at the same time. If you listen to the critics, they are saying this movie is the one that sticks most faithfully to the books. That is true up to a point. However, LOADS of subplots are left out completely, and some seemingly random and pointless stuff has been added in. Still good to see one of my favorite books in the series brought to life, still worth the price of a movie ticket, but just the tiniest bit dissapointing, especially at the end.

This was an excellent movie, but I think the movie tried to cram too much into 2.5 hours thus it left out some of the plot and minor characters. I did get a bit tired of the "who is in love with who" in the movie and wanted more of the issues that will lead to the conclusion of the series. Still, it's a great movie and the actor portraying Dumbledore was outstanding.

I personally found this movie to be quite good. Even though, I would have preferred the movie to follow closer to the book, it was a really well made movie, one of the best Harry Potter movies yet! I was a little disappointed in not seeing some of the other memories Dumbledore had stashed away about Voldemort, and the fact that it all of a sudden became Draco who did everything not the Rosemerta.

I wanted more! Although the movie was in fact 2 and 1/2 hours long it felt like it went by in 10 minutes. From start to finish my eyes never left the screen. This was by far one of the better Harry Potters. There was action but the movie was more focused on filling in details about how the characters grow up and develop bonds more intimate than friendship. There was a clear sense of evil and despair drawing nearer, but balanced by incredible comic releif. I am going to begin reading the books because I feel there is so much more to the story and I can't get enough! Awesome movie, I probably would've rated excellent if I read the books.

Being a huge Harry Potter fan, not just me but my whole family, I have to say that although the movie was great overall there were parts of the book that were left out of the movie and things added to the movie that weren't in the book. The burrow never burned in the book, Bellatrix did not destroy the great hall and what happened to the fight after Snape killed Dumbeldore. The graphics were awesome and we did enjoy the movie.

Another excellent step in the Potter series. It's a transitional plot as the characters mature so some may miss the lessening of action sequences, but it's true to the pivotal role this book plays. I was surprised to see some very young children ( obviously too young to be readers) because a lot of the story is dark and scary. All in all, another winner.

Being an avid Harry Potter fan, I was so sadly disappointed by so many key factors that were altered from the book for the movie. (especially the ending, which is one of the key factors for Deathly Hallows) To me, the screenplay was not done well and this was by far my least favorite of the movies. Does anyone else out there, feel let down as well? I was so looking forward to this movie ( counting down the days unitl July 15th) only to leave unsatisfied. My hope is that the next installment will be better and stick more closely to the book.

I thought this was by far the most clever of the Harry Potter films. The humor was great, the acting wonderful, and it was beautiful to watch. Jim Broadbent was a fantastic addition to the already stellar cast.

I was somewhat disappointed. Acting was good but lacked substance. Special effects were okay but previous HP movies were much better. Movie did not really focus and anything but comedy and relationships.

Okay I'm a huge Harry Potter fan so no matter what i'm going to buy the movie and love it anyways. So they always leave a few things out, the only thing I didn't like was the way they did the kiss scene they could have done it correctly, i mean they didn't even have to film the quidditch scene before because harry was supposed to be in detention. And this was my favorite book so i'm going to be a little critical of the movie. But overall i'm going to see it again with my mother who has watched the films with me since i was ten, when the first one came out. But you should watch it, its a good movie by itself.

meaning the very end was missing a lot of things. There just wasn't enough time to do the full book and I guess JKR decided that stuff was just filler. My daughter was upset that Bill and Fleur were left out but I'm betting they'll include that in the first part of 7.1.

I'll tell you this. The creators of this movie definately know what Harry Potter fans want. You won't be dissapointed. I will say that I gave this movie an 8/10. It was almost a 9 except for a few slow scenes.

Best movie of the series so far! There was a lot of book to fit in and while I felt some important details were left out overall it was well played out. It contained plenty of action and drama while still sprinkling in delightful humor. I was a bit disappointed that the big fight was left out of the end and Ginny's character was not well developed enough. Younger kids may get a little spooked but my youngest (8) did fine. I can't wait for the next two movies!
