The story was disjointed. You could keep up if you had read the book so you could fill in the pieces. The romance was emphasized this time but even that was subtle between Harry and Ginny. Special effects were good and overall I enjoyed the movie. Alot of action left out of the final scenes. Alot of build up for the final episode.

Generally, I enjoy the Harry Potter series. I enjoyed this movie too. The concepts of good and evil, however, became muddled. Why is Harry Potter on the good side? Why are the others on the bad side? These questions aren't answered to my satisfaction of an excellent movie.

The movie was good but the plot was broken. If you read the books first the movie makes better sense. If you havent seen the other movies in this series then you are going to miss out on the whole story. I wouldn't reecommend a friend to see it at the theater. I would wait for the DVD. Since this book is the middle, its good for the people who haven't read the books but keep up on the movies. It's like the set up movie...a bit slow and not as attention grabbing, but important to the series as a whole. HP-HBP is a good movie - but don't expect it to be true to the book. The end, in particular, is heavily rewritten - argh, I wanted another magic battle. It's nice to see Dumbledore get a great sendoff - his part was much more important this time around.
The three teens, like the last film, are not understandable unless it's a non-action segment - but usually they are speaking so fast that you can only get every third word.
I know it's hard to get such a thick book into a 150 minutes movie - but I've never liked it when important parts get rewritten. It's why I am giving this film a lower than usual rating.

I cannot readily compare Half-Blood Prince to 1 or 2, because those movies are set in their own style.
This all being said, HP:HBP is my favorite compared to 3 and further because of the masterful use of comic relief considering the dark plot, as well as the development of the relationships between the characters. 3,4 and 5 are great movies, but their tones are generally so dark that they provide a stark contrast to the first two films. This movie brings light back to an ever-darkening series with comic relief and as the children find romantic interests between themselves and others at Hogwarts.
Having already seen this movie twice, I would very well recommend it if you have seen the previous ones.

This installment of the series plunges you right into the thick of the story. I had to explain some elements to my companion who hadn't read the books.
It was thrilling to see the three leads growing up and older. It also had a rather realistic presentation of teenage troubles.

I was rather unsatisfied with this HP movie. I found it to be slow moving and lacking in the excitement of previous HP movies. I think that they spent too much time setting up for the final two movies and left out some of the more important portions of this story line. At times, I had difficulty staying awake. After all the hype about this being the best Harry Potter movie yet, I was definitely not satisfied. The ending was a serious disappointment. It seemed like they ran out of time and just cut out the ending. When the credits started to roll, my first thought was, "That's it?"

Don't believe the hype about it being a 3-D movie. It is 3-D only for about 10 minutes which is not worth the extra money. Adding insult to injury, the movie asks more questions than it answers and is just a 2hr 33 minute trailer for the next movie. It is good to watch on the big screen but lower your expectations and you will have a better viewing experience.

I did not like this movie but the grandchildren, and son, liked it. Maybe if you were a true fan of Harry Potter and had read the books you would have enjoyed this more. It was very long (I understand that there is a sequeal to it also) and the plot was not too well defined. A lot of action but to me no substance.
Remember this is just the viewpoint of a senior citizen and I am sure this movie was not made for our age group.

It was ok. I'd have liked to seen more humorous scenes with Harry's aunt and uncle.

I have not read the book, although my kids and husband have. I had a number of questions that arose during the movie, because things were not clear just from watching the movie (and past HP movies), and my family felt that they left out too much of the book. They are wondering how the next movies are going to cover it all. From my standpoint, though, it was still very entertaining, and I have to judge it on its own merits as a movie, not as a book-to-script translation. In this regard, in spite of some areas that left questions unanswered, I was entertained and enjoyed the movie, quirky humor and all, and look forward to the next HP movie.

I do understand that you can not cram one of the Harry Potter books into one movie but they really left out some very important facts. 1st, I really don't think they emphasized the importance of the horcruxes. How is Harry supposed to find the rest of them when they were not even mentioned? I am interested on seeing how they are going to pull that off in the last movie. 2nd- Where they heck is the final battle scene??? Nothing was told or emphasizes about Fenrir Greyback. How can you have a Harry Potter movie and not have a fight scene? Or are they calling the event that happened at the Burrow a fight scene? Which leads me to my 3rd huge disappointment. The continued the story well and set up the final segments. Very much had to be a series fan as it picked up right after the last movie. I always judge a movie by how well I know time after it ended. My son and I have been watching and reading all of the Potter filmes/books since he was small- I used to edit the violent parts for him when I read, but now he is 13 and still loves the books and the movies.
I love how the movie really brings the magic alive and the characters alive as well. I feel as if we know the characters very well at this point-

We were disappointed in this movie. The director, we felt, did not take into account some of the better parts of the story into the movie. There was very little character deveopment. If I had not read the book there would have been big question marks as to what was going on. Don't recall ever "regretting" knowing the books behind the movie so well ( read the series front to back twice ) But before i get flamemails. I liked the movie, but certainly wouldn't take my young kids to this or any of the potter films ( too young )
Just found myself thinking that they were working too hard setting up for the finale, not building a full experience for a single movie. Will admit the emergance of the 2 faces of Draco ...from a truly "Evil" young man opposed to nasty boy ...then easily switching to the very human scared young man at his special "moment" which he thankfully fails at! was remarkable !
Enjoyed seeing Snape, now finally becoming the true hero he will eventually become! Enuff said...

It was as always fun and I enjoyed watching the characters as they are growing up into young adults. After all Harry, Hermione, Ron and the many others are more fun when they have more to them than just magic and wizardry.
I loved it, my whole family loved it. We have the books and all the dvds. We can't wait for the next one! YAY!

Good movie, some changes from the book which is expected, but I thought it was better than the 4th & 5th movies (staying close to the book)

The movie had awesome special effects, that took place in a more grown up Harry enviroment a lot of suspence with an ending different from the previous 5 movies, not having as much closure as the others did i think this was to make you think more about what is to come. this movie actually made my wife and i both jump in one scene, great job !!!
