This was an excellent film. the balance of humor and drama was perfect so that the viewer never becomes bored. It is very well acted and edited as well. A perfect action- packed movie for those who grew up with the books. However, like the books, this movie is targeted for an older audience than the "little kids" audience of the first book/movie combo.

Much better than #5, stayed closer to book. Overall, very good. Typical Hollywood emphasis on romance over true theme of war between wizards and Voldemort. Due to time restrictions, left out much explanation -- as that Harry could not act when Dumbledore was killed because he was stupified. End scene was disappointing -- lacked emotion. Still, loved it!

The scenery was amazing of course. The problem was that you spend the whole movie waiting for something amazing to happen and it never does. A main character is killed and they rush through it like they didn't leave enough time for it to be in the movie. Literally like they ran out of time and just rushed it into the end of the movie. It was amazing to watch just wished something major would have happened. When it was over I just sat there like WHAT ! that's it?

Another fantastic movie in the series. I was disappointed in the way they made Helena Bonham Carter look as Bellatrix. She should have been younger and more beautiful, sort of a Marilyn Monroe type. I could see Lucius and Draco going for her if she were beautiful. I thought the character was too much like a vampire seductress type. Otherwise, I loved this movie from start to finish. I regret that the screenwriters have a huge job having to cut out details, but they did a good job and I look forward to the two final installments. Maybe all the books should have been written as two part stories.

I thought the movie was good, it was great seeing the book brought to life and it picks up right where Order of the Phoenix left off, however as with all books to films ... it leaves a lot out. I think the rest of the Harry Potter films did a great job with coming to life on the big screen from the books. This film I think fall short a little. I think the movie could have used an additional 30 minutes to fill in some gaps in the story being shown on the screen. For many of the book followers, we were able to "know" the gaps that were occurring as the story jumps around. I hope they keep this in mind for the last film. I still would see it again anytime and I know I will be in line to get the DVD when it comes out!

I thought the movie was excellent! The special effects were very well done. It wasn't an exact copy of the book, but it wasn't supposed to be. It was simply "based" off the book, and that's what a bunch of people who are criticizing it don't realize. The reason why there was no end fight scene was because they didn't want the fight scene in the 7th to seem redundant. People who didn't read the books won't understand everything as much because the movie doesn't explain the horcruxes that well, but for those who did read the books it's fine. I loved the Ginny-Harry scene though. I thought it was better the way they did it in the film. 5 Stars!

I really enjoyed the latest HP edition. The previous films’ ingredients – a script with wry humor, emotional appeal and dramatic suspense that’s true to the book, great sets, atmospheric cinematography, excellent FX and master-class acting by British pros – have been blended to create another potion of scary fun.
Michael Gambon is spot on as Dumbledore; Maggie Smith’s McGonagall speaks volumes with just one eyebrow; Alan Rickman as Snape is “a vulture lazily picking over entrails”; Rupert Grint shows more range with each outing as Ron; Tom Felton is growing into the role of Draco Malfoy; Frank Dillane makes Tom Riddle into an evil specter; and Evanna Lynch steals her scenes as Luna Lovegood.

I agree 100% with ashley42542 and also artdec from boston.ma. I have not read the Harry Potter books, but I am a huge fan of the movies. I was distracted by all the laughing. I kept wondering if this movie was directed by the same director as all the others. (still have not found out) I felt it odd that Draco had such a non verbal roll, but it did add to the intensity. The end? Hello? I watched the people around me and I could see not all of them believed he died. I didn't. He's the best how could he. As I said I have yet to read the books so maybe there is hope...

Although the movie left out a few of the little parts in the book that really made the book come alive, the movie itself was fantastic. It could use more explanation of some of the newer characters, the travels harry and dumbledore take on, and the beginning of the war working into the muggle world. all in all it was true to the book and so worth the money. i would see it again with anyone, any time.

I realize that it's difficult to keep with book when making Harry Potter movies, basically because of time restrictions, however; leaving out the fight scene at the end basically flawed the movie for me. There was things left out that probably would have assisted the viewer into understanding what was taking place. The romances between characters, as cute as it was, didn't really need to be addressed as much as it had been. The whole point was learning about Voldemort and the challenges that lie ahead. I feel as if I haven't really seen the whole movie - a huge piece is missing. I can't say I didn't enjoy it, because I did, I just feel some disappointment.

The movie over all was great, but could have been incredible. Missed the cloak and dagger or mystery and climactic finish of the past movies. Keeping the mystery surrounding the vanishing box would have added to the climax of the Hogwarts battle, if there had been a battle. Killing off such a major character(so unlike the book)in Dumbeldore without the Hogwarts battle was the mystery. Left the theater a little disappointed.

AS far as capturing the essence of the book onto the big screen...this is my favorite Potter movie. In goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix, too much info was jammed into the movie that if you didn't read the book you'd be lost. This one is easy to follow, tell a great story, state of the art special fx, phenom acting and impeccable directing by Yates.

The movie follows the book almost to a T, but major action scenes were missing. Viewers who did not read the book may find this movie to be their least favorite of all six. Malfoy's closet/portal scenes were too many, and the elaborate funeral scene at the end should have been included. This movie was missing the eerie mood when revisiting Tom Riddle's past. Applause for Ron Weasley and Hermione. Bellatrix seems almost annoying and one wonders why she has any power at all over others. It was not done well. Pressure on Malfoy was not explained well. Hagid's spider scene could have been cut shorter in order to make time for the grander action scenes. In summary, I was not holding my breath in any scenes, but the book was followed well.

There should be a special Oscar for the casting director who chose the young actors. They have all matured not only physically but also artistically since the series began. And Helena Bonham Carter is really really scary!

It was a rather expository film setting up for the 2 part finale of Deathly Hollows. It lacked action, battles, and was mostly focused on setting up the next 2 films. It is somewhat comparable to Azkaban setting up the Goblet of Fire.

I loved the movie I wish the battle scene at Hogwarts had not been cut up so much. I was disappointed that the funeral for Dumbledore was not included, but feel it certainly will be in the beginning of movie 7! It has been a joy watching all the characters grow up with the film. My heart ached for Snape as he said, "It is over", for indeed his life as he knew it surely was over, since no one would have believed the truth from him. You even has to feel sorry for Malfoy in this film. I have already gone to see it three times and will go again when it is starts in 3D IMAX here in a week or so! Cheers
