The movie followed the book perfectly but if you go in expecting all the magic and showy stuff dont. The ending is very moving and they did it very well...but then it dragged on and i really would like to see the magic that we did in OotP.

Excellent special effects, and acting offset by the too frequent liberties taken in the adaptation. The post-ponement of release from last holiday season to this summer to 'tent' a lackluster summer release schedule created too much anticipation for a movie that really just set up for the next two movies. I might have been expecting too much since the last several movies had been excellent, this movie was really just okay; for this series that is really disappointing.

I have read all the Harry Potter books and seen all the movies, and I can say with a heavy heart that this movie was not my favorite. Infact I was a little disappointed in it. I think they left out to many important parts, and alot of things they showed did not happen in the book. I just hope that the last two movies will be better. It was not horrible, just not what I was expecting.

Worth seeking out a greet screen (digital, large, etc) to view this movie. Some scenes really draw on these effects.
Could have used better focus on what they took the time to explain (and what was glossed over). Could have expanded ending portions.
Could have also reduced the "Real World: Hogwarts" aspect as well. Quiddich seemed to finally make sense on screen after 5 movies, great visuals, so again seek out a good screen to watch it.

Too many liberties taken inserting scenes not from the book. The beginning of every book set the tone . This one started with mayhem but bogged down from there. The destruction of the Burrow was nonsense. Too many scenic overviews at the expense of book detail. I would see it again.

The last H.P movies were excellent. The Half-blood prince however lacked quite a bit of the books plot line. If you are not a Potter series follower this movie will keep you guessing as to what is actually going on. I must say though that the special effects for this one were done exceptional well. I was, sad to say, extremely disappointed with the outcome of this movie. Hopefully the Hollowed Death will return to the true Harry Potters status.

If you are the die hard Harry Potter fan who knows the books backwards and forwards then I urge you not to see this movie or you will be severely disappointed. There are tons of scenes from the book that they missed in the movie (which is expected) but what's more is that many scenes in the movie were completely different than they were in the book and there were a few scenes added to the movie that were never in the book at all. However, if you are a Harry Potter movie fan and have never read the books or have read them but do not remember them, I guarantee that you will thoroughly enjoy this movie because it is very well done. Rupert Grint gives an incredible performance, as does Radcliffe.

As the kids get older the real fun disapates from the movie. It was a sad ending and hope that the Finale will be greater than this film. It's also nice to see the kids get older. Looks like they have had thier run of it and would like to be some other character in another movie. Overall Good.

I went in with high exspectation and left with disappoint and in shame. This movie was a waste of film and should not have been let out to the public. It wasn't bad. I enjoyed the photography and was generally engaged through the whole thing. The actors are starting to look a little old for their parts, but that bothered me only a little. I did find the ending very abrupt and unsatisfying (though I do know what happens later because I read the 7th book). Overall I'd say it was okay, not great.
As I recall, the 6th book was also the weakest of the novels so maybe it was the material as much as anything. It's more a "connector" story - good for prepping you for book 7, but doesn't stand up as well on its own. I read the books a while ago so I can't remember all the details of the book versus the movie.

I enjoyed the movie and the actors did a great job but I did not feel the excitement I felt with the previous movies. The actors were great, but limited by the way the screen writers hacked up the story. There are so many missing parts that even somone like me, who has read the books several times, can get lost. What happened to the funeral? And Harry didn't react to Dumbledore's death because he was under the invisibility cloak and frozen by Dumbledore. What happened to that part of the scene? The books are so well written that it is a shame the screen writers feel the need to change the content. Sure the movie is long, but those of us who are true fans would spend another 30 minutes to get at least some of the more important scenes picked back up from the cutting floor and reattached! Hope that they include them on the extended cut version! Can't wait.

The 6th movie was pretty good, despite how they chose to end it... All characters improved in their acting skills greatly, Emma Watson especially showed a deeper more complex emotional side, Rupert Grint is awesome as always, and even Daniel Radcliffe improved a lot, in acting in more ways than just the angsty teenager. The interaction between Harry and Ginny was a little, eh...forced, and innuendos everywhere haha. but overall it was a good movie, and id recommend seeing it if you're a fan :)

The film was visually stunning as usual, and I loved the dark feel of impending doom. Though I understand a film will never include everything a book has to offer, I was disappointed that there were so many plot lines left out. I also thought it interesting how Snape's role in the plot against Dumbledore was represented. The question of his loyalty of the lack thereof was not left as uncertain as in the book. It was almost as if the director thought the audience was not smart enough to question Snape's intentions.

I've seen this film twice. The first at midnight, the film broke immediately after the killing curse. I am not kidding. They repaired it, gave us a free ticket to see it again. Thank you CineMark in Lake Charles La. (My kids saw the midnight show in San Jose Ca and they, too, had problems.)
Anyway, I loved the humor, and since the dark passages were very dark, this film needed lots of comic relief.
I did NOT like the two added scenes, although the opening scene is growing on me. I still detest the added scene at the Burrow. I understand they have to show Harry as a target, but they went too far.
There were lots of nuances that I missed with the first viewing; I recommend at least a second to catch everything.

Firstly, while the Plaza Theatre in Carpinteria is cute, and we're lucky to have one screen in our little town, the copy of Potter was scratched. The lines running vertically on the left side of the screen were very distracting for most of the film. Manager was nice, but nothing was done.
The film feels like a gap filler bridge to get to the rest of the story. The dramatic intent was so reliant upon folks knowing what was left out, that even as an avid reader, I was confused about what was going on. Overall, a fun film, but not the strongest one, for sure. They're getting complacement.

I think it was a great movie, but I would have put in a few more parts from the movie. Like when Dumbledore picks Harry up, it was at his house and he bounced drinks off the Dursley's. The "Half-Blood Prince" installment of the Harry Potter movie serial is an intermezzo, a slower-paced bit of story tellling that may not hold the interest of the casual viewer. It lacks the compelling plot of the previous installments. Those who know the books will be disapponted at the amount of material left out by the movie makers, and some will wonder how they will tie up the ends in the succeeding movies. But it was an enjoyable night at the movies, and I think you will find it worth your viewing.

I liked the movie but felt that the switching between scenes could have been better...too many landscape shots as transitions.
Daniel Radcliffe showed his acting talents better in this movie than the last one...he needs a little work on crying though.
Emma Watson showed her acting talents as well but they cut her character's part so much.
Rupert Grint is really good. I totally enjoyed his scene where he was affected by the love potion.
I really would have liked to have seen more of Helena Bonham Carter. She was excellent everytime she was on screen. Her part was cut too much as well.

The movie started out good, but towards the end you expect more will happen and its over. Nothing thrilling to leave you wanting more. It was almost as if they realized they didn't have enough time so they cut it short. My children and I thought it was the worst Harry Potter movie we have seen to date. They left the movie disappointed.

I've enjoyed all the books and films, and I enjoyed this film as well, but it played too much to the public's love of dark, scary and special-effects-loaded movies. 6 is a huge book and so many subplots were left out in favor of optical special effects. I love the kids--I've watched them grow up and really enjoy seeing them, but too many were relegated to the background, like Luna and Longbottom and many others. Yes, they are adolescent and the hormones are igniting, but that was not the gist of the book. I would give this film 3 stars for all the reasons above. I hope there will be a different director for Harry 7 and 7. The movie was greatly boosted by Snape and Slughorn--two superb actors whose talents stole every scene they were in..
