I knew this book would be the most difficult to put into a movie. I think they did a good job with the storyline trying to show how evil Tom Riddle was even at a young age.
This movie has beautiful scenery shots, some humor, and allows the actors to act! This movie is much darker, but that is to be expected since we are nearing the end of the stories.
The ending was poignant with the showing of light...overcoming the darkness. The emotions felt real from the whole cast. Looking forward to the next two movies

The actors just keep getting better, but I'm glad book 7 is becoming two movies; there's just so much left out of this movie. Everything that's there is excellent, but pages upon pages are represented by seconds on the screen. It's impossible to say I was fully satisfied, because "Hal Blood Prince" is a transitional book; it sets up "Deathly Hallows". I felt I should have seen "To Be Continued" as the end credits rolled. But while the movie played, I was largely satisfied with how it played and also very satisfied with the cast. I'll watch this again right before the next one comes out.

The half blood prince was all that was expected. Obviously everyone involved is determined to bring the books to the screen in the best possible way. And aren't the producers lucky that everyone has stayed alive, out of jail, and grown up pretty good looking? More somber than the others but then so are the books. Academy Awards should have long since recognized Alan Rickman just tomention one. What's up with that anyway? Surely these films are as good as if not better than the Lord of the Rings!

If you are looking for magic and theatrics you will be VERY disappointed. However, if you are interested in seeing character development, coming of age, as well as snipits from the book... then you will really enjoy this movie.
Like any of the other movies, there are major portions of the book left out (but then again, the movies aren't days long... only a few hours), and if you haven't read the book, you may be a little lost. With that said, the major points are at least touched on, and the set-up for the next movie has been made...
I would recommend seeing it... so you are ready for the next movie.

I was very disappointed. Being a Harry Potter fanatic who has read and reread the stories, watched and rewatched all the movies, I am almost in pain thinking how I am going to be forced to add this movie to my DVD collection. They missed out on what could have been a wonderful expression of the writers ideas and story progression. The plot line had to many gaps, no explanation of Dumbldores hand, not enough explanations on the hordicultures et...to much emphasis on the love potions, the laxidaisy portrayal of the battle that ensued at the Weasley home. I will only be seeing this one once and probably will never open the DVD until my grandchildren wish to see the series.

This movie is not to be missed. I left it to go home and read the book again. Yes. There is a lot left out, but the focus on the relationships between Ron, Hermione and Ginny was perfect. I really appreciate that, contrary to early reports, there are no lengthy love scenes. These are teen-agers, coming-of-age, strengthening bonds with one another. Perfect!!! I plan to see it again on the big screen.

First of all, I have loved every single Harry Poter movie up to this point. This movie however lacked what has drawn me to these movies, the magic! It seemed to be more about the personal relationships of the characters which is fine and all but thats not what I was looking forward to seeing. It was anti-climatic and somewhat boring especially for my youngest who is 5. The story had some great things happening but were displayed in an unexciting way. Rather than leading the viewer into a shocking discovery of some monumental proportion it was just told to the viewer like yesterdays news. I was disappointed because I expected better from a Harry Potter movie but it wasnt a bad movie in general.

As those who've read the books know, as the series progressed, the storyline became much darker, more mature. In this series installment the character development is central and begins to expose much more detail making this storyline the best so far. Rupert Grint's Ron Weasley gave much needed comic relief as the much more serious plot sets many events in motion which makes me impatient to see the last movies of this series. Brilliant!

I have never read any of the HP books, and have enjoyed discovering the story through each movie. This installment finally revealed something that I thought all along, and I can definitely see now how things will end up. From the "Phoenix" to now and I'm sure until the end, the films have become progressively darker and I like that. I also enjoy how the characters are growing up and the writers and actors have truly captured the essence of adolescence. The psychological symbolism is always so amazingly accurate. Every time I see one of the films I never want them to end. Until next time...

I've loved the whole Harry Potter series. Each film, up to now, has been better than the last. I still liked the current film but they spent too much time focusing on the love potion, puppy love side of the story. A major missing piece for me was the battle at the end of the book which ended up amounting to one curse by Snape in the film. They also made Harry out to be a coward whereas in the book he is prevented from defending Dumbledore when Dumbledore immobilizes Harry under the invisibility cloak. Finally, they spent little time on trying to identify The Half Blood Prince. Overall good but not great - basically they turned a magical mystery into a chick flick.

This was by far the best Potter movie. It may not have included all the info from the books, but it was already 2.5 hours. After watching and having read all the books, this movie has been the closest to the book by far. Parts were taken out to keep it in the time frame but otherwise very well written and acted out. Though a dark movie (and book) there are many times I was laughing throughout the movie. There were some parts from the book left out that are essential to the last book. Like where the ring came from, where Voldemort's family came from, his past. But otherwise you get all the information you need to be able to deduce what needs to happen in the last movie(s). Worth every penny we spent. Worth the 2.5 hours to watch!

So let me start of by stating that I’ve never read any of the Harry Potter but I’ve watched all the Harry Potter movies, except the previous one “Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix”. That being said, I really enjoyed this movie, the special effect are always amazing and the story lines kept me captivated through this 2 and 1/2 hours long movie. The movie was also very comedic through out the movie they had little snips that were funny. I was confused in some parts of the movie and had to discuss with my friend (who's read all the books) what was happening or why it was happening.

it seem good in the on the outside but i think it lacked alot of the fundemental matter. the whole reason it had emerge in the industry as a novel follwoing a series was because there were specific elements at play that would resurface in the middle or towards the end of the series.
i understand the reason behind the relationship aspect and need to advertise it but i think the director might not have focus the whole thing on them.
it seem like the movie goer was usher through the whole movie.

If you loved the book version, and are expecting it, you will be disappointed. No Fleur & Bill in love, only a little Quidditch. But honestly, the important bits are there. This movie is good, and it communicates the important events of the story, with better acting than previous movies, and just-as-gorgeous sets, costumes, and cinematography. It's a GOOD movie. But there will be things lovers of the books won't see (and some additions) that will confound them. Please, just take it as an adaptation - a VERSION of the book. It's the biggest departure so far. But it's also one of the best MOVIES made, based on Harry Potter. Puritans, turn away - the rest of you, enjoy.

I'm a die hard HP buff so it would be pretty difficult for me to give this movie less than five stars. They did, of course, leave a lot of from the book but to not it would have been a 6 hour movie. I did, however, want more at the end of the film and was disapointed that the fight scene at Hogwarts was removed. There was also some embellishments and minor story changes that happened, but they were overall acceptable.
The effects were great and more characterization was given to some of the major players- Dumbledore, Snape, Draco to name a few. For those non book readers, this film should give you an idea of where the series is going and how it will wrap up in the finish.
Overall, worth the price of my ticket!

If you're a Potter-phile, like we are, you WILL love this. Yes, it does leave out parts from the book but it's already 2 1/2 hrs long and it definitely hits most of the important parts. I didn't feel like it was as dark as "Phoenix" and I certainly loved the fact that the "kids" are growing up. It's a must see.

I felt that this sequel gave the most depth to the characters as opposed to trying to fit in everything from the book. Maybe not as action packed but very satisfying. A great night out!

This film was so different than the past 5 HP movies, it was dark, and sinister and action packed from the get-go. Bad guys are revealed and the plot becomes very defined. I was so happy to see that with the kids growing up, so does the dialouge and the mood. I think the director did a great job at capturing the mood of this film and portraying the dismal darkness that each charachter is facing. I will likely see this movie again with friends and will surely pick up on things i didnt pick up on the 1st time. This is the best HP movie yet in my opinion, you simply must see it!
