My daughter has been to most of the openings of the Harry Potter movies. She has read the books so many times I can't count. I am writing this review for her as I am not a big Harry Potter fan. She wondered if they were going to show Snape's house, which they did. She warned me about the scary scene with the dead bodies, which everyone expected but me. She felt that a lot had been left out and was a little disappointed with that.

Certain Scene were cut which you expect because there is always more in a book than a movie.
However, certain scenes were added that added noting to the movie at all.
Also, some scenes were changed. Some better (Luna && DD Aparating) and some very much worse (ending).

I can see why there is a lot of hype on this movie. The children have grown and the skills of their craft have grown with them. With this installment there is wit, comedy, drama, and all the emotions from top to bottom. Even the secondary players have grown. Now for the bad.... The first 2 hours of this movie are exceptional, the last 30 minutes killed it. The climatic ending scene from the book was shredded like a past due bill, and instead we are left with a lame, limp, and lifeless thing that would make a Nargle cry. Also the grave scene replaced by that walk through in the Astronomy tower brings the ending down even more.

Took my boys to see this at the midnight movie showing and we were not disappointed. Of course things change from the novel to try to fit everything in, but it was well done. I am looking forward to rereading the book again - glad I did not do before the movie. The characters are maturing and they are dealing with very dark material. I am very glad the last book is going to be broken down in two parts - ya wanna talk a cliff hanger!! Anyone who complains about a cliff hanger on this movie should go back and reread the book - it was agnoy! Wish they had done Dumbledore's funeral -

As huge Harry Potter fans, we were so excited to see Half Blood Prince at the midnight opening. It was well worth the wait!! The characters were extremely well developed, and the darker tone of this book was brought to life. At the same time, there was plenty of the series' trademark humor, and the character relationships were a joy to watch.
The only negative is that I felt the Half Blood Prince storyline was given somewhat short shrift. If you hadn't read the books, you might be a little let down and confused at the big reveal.
A very minor detraction overall, though, and definitely understandable given the intricacy of the plot. Two thumbs up!!

I really enjoyed this movie. It was beautiful and captured the sense of the book that I had while reading. Sure, some details are completely wrong - Remus and Tonks... - but I really enjoyed it - it was a great film and the actors have really grown into their characters! Lots of funny moments too!

The latest sequel to the Harry Potter series delivered what was expected. All the adventure, humor, drama and special effects were packed in. Although it does not live up to the richness of the book, there simply isn't enough time in a movie to do so. As for the ending, of course we don't like it, but it sticks to the storyline and is how it needed to be.

I was so excited to see this one as it was my favorite of the books. I was very disappointed with the adding of scenes never in the book and the unclarification of new people in this movie. There were so many little things that could have been done and weren't. I am surprised that JK Rowling allows some of these changes. My husband, not reading any of the books, thought this was a 4.5 out of 5. I would like to say that this director I do not believe captures the true gift of these books (he has directed both 5 and 6 now) and he is directing the last 2 (book 7 being made into 2 movies). I wish they would bring back Chris columbus who did the first one. That one was amazing and quite true to the book.

Of course I liked the movie because it was Harry Potter, BUT, they cut out way more than really was acceptable. Maybe they should have split this movie into two parts as well. It felt like a the major conflicts in the movie were fast forwarded to a final outcome. A lot of the tension felt while reading the book was not present while viewing the movie. Being an avid fan of the books, I was annoyed with the movie as a whole. Removing huge (and wildly important) parts of the book and adding meaningless scenes to the movie was ridiculous. The huge fight scene at the end is non-existent and the movie is very anticlimactic. It's hard to be entertained by the movie when in the back of your mind, you're saying "this is nothing like the book." Characters aren't well developed and are easily dropped from the story line. However, the acting is much improved from previous films, and the cinematography is amazing. Tom Felton really steals the show by carrying Draco's character to the next level. Overall, prepare yourself for a disappointing adaptation of the Half Blood Prince.

This movie, like expected was an awesome adventure! The humor was perfectly scripted and came at the right time! All of the characters' personalities have developed immensely. This was a beautifully crafted film from a technical standpoint, but failed to evoke ANY emotional reaction. The score in particular failed to highlight the dramatic scenes and left me cold.
The acting, while solid, was directed too cautiously. The characters were serious, stoic, and a bit flat instead of connecting with the audience. There's a fine line between acting and overacting, but the characters stayed too firmly inside the bounds.
The lack of screen time for the supporting characters also really hurt them - we love Ron and Hermoine and Harry ... but they're not the only ones we want to see!
There were lots of good points, too, but this movie flunked on the fundamentals.

There has been a strange movement in the Harry Potter Movies to make them as short as possible. They went to great lengths to show the development of the characters relationships, but every scene was unnecessarily fabricated because the book's scenes did quite nicely. They also cut out swaths of the story where we never even hear of Creature or of the hidden Black house. I have to say I like the characters and the acting was very good. The new take on the death eaters assaults makes them a force to be reckoned with. The Weasly magic shop was also imaginative and really brought to life. One of the best parts to show that the characters are growing up, which is hardly registered in the books, Dumbledore tells Harry he needs a shave.

Having come from the midnight showing, I feel this was the best adaptation of Harry Potter from book to screen. Sure, things were inevitably cut out, but the editing choices made for a more complete movie. The cinematography far surpassed the last five movies, the humor was equal to that which we read in the books, and the cave seen was just as I had imagined in my mind. They did a pretty good job of not changing/leaving out important parts from the book. There were, however, a few memories that were shown in the book that I believe should have been in the movie. The information Harry got from these other memories help the reader understand how Harry knows what objects may be horcruxes in the next book. Overall though, it was a good adaptation.

Movie failed on so many levels, they had a very good script to follow in the book and should have stuck to it instead of creating sub-plots and unrealistic 'glue' portions. The major book themes where present, if muted. Most of the wizard battles are deleted and the entire funeral is missing!
I can not believe they delayed the movie six(6) months for this --- All in all "middle of the road" movie, editing, special effects and sound.
I really hope that this director and writers are not doing the last book or the movie will be as mediocre as this one.

i loved the moviee! to recreate the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from the book would be virtually impossible, just because the books get more magical and complicated. however, i don't remember the Burrow scene in the book... it was definatly different from the other ones, more a lighthearted, and aromantic comedy...while the others are a little more dark. overall, the movie was fantastic! and i can't wait to see the last two! :)

This movie was disappointing to say the least. They could have done way better. The best parts of the book were cut out and the ones that weren't were mixed with other parts. The ending was horrible, far from the book and they left out major parts too. Yes, the graphics were good, but it was the worst of all the Harry Potter series. Do not read the book before seeing. I was so looking forward to this movie. I took 14 kids to see the midnight showing. I kept waiting for the excitement to begin. Before I knew it the movie was over and we were all sitting mouths hanging open, in disbelief. It was as if the climax in the movie never happened. I had kept waiting and waiting for the excitement to begin and it never did. I was so sad to see that a Harry Potter film had turned out so badly. JK Rowling should be ashamed that she allowed this movie to be a representation of her book. Even if you have never read the books, you will still be disappointed.

People say the ending was awful but in all honesty, that is how to book ended. Just be patient all you non-readers and you will see what happens in the next movie. Overall a great movie with more humor than any other Harry Potter movie has had in the past!

I have not read any of the harry potter books and i have only seen the first, and last two movies. the other movies where alot better than this one. this movie was very jumpy and if you have not read the book you really wont know whats going on. humor was there but the action was sparse. if you are not a harry potter fan , wait for this one to come out on dvd and rent it

The best HP movie to date. The humor & character building were beyond compare to previous installments. However, the movie failed to drive the overriding plot of the series to set up the movie for HP7. Voldemort was underdeveloped & the book was truly about building him. Not just who he was but also the way he thought, which is pivotal to Harry's quest. Tom Felton's portrayal of Draco was inspired, as well as Jim Broadbent as Slughorn. Aside from other arguments of what was removed from the book the last half hr of the movie was awful as far as fidelity to JKs original. See the movie, it is the best to date. But it would be better called Harry Potter & the Year Nothing Happens than Harry Potter & the Half-Blood prince. READ THE BOOK!
