Like most book-to-movie translations, the movie pales in comparison to the book. Specifically, the director didn’t seem to know what scenes were important and which weren’t. So some scenes (like those at the Weasley’s) seemed an unnecessary waste of time, while numerous others were so abbreviated that they had almost no significance. In addition, as with most sequels – especially later installments in a series – Half Blood just didn’t seem to bring anything new to the screen. No new effects. No outstanding cinematography. Nothing really made you go “Wow!” It was enjoyable and probably worth the $10 (to see the 1st showing at midnight), but earlier Potter movies were better.

I bought 3 tickets online from movieticket.com for the midnight show of HP and the movie was WONDERFUL! This is my favourite Harry Potter film yet! It was surprisingly very funny, which really helped carry the film along. I also thought the special effects were very cool and magical. Even though it strayed from the novel a lot I still think this is a great film for all ages! Can't wait til the 7th comes out!

Overall I enjoyed the film as a whole. If I had not read the book, I probably would have enjoyed it more, however there were parts missing (Dumbeldore's funeral ceremony at the end...actual burial takes place) along with some others that I could not think of at the time. I felt like they were trying more to develop the characters rather than bring the story forward to the next level. Based from the previous films, I expected a little bit more action than what was delivered.

In comparison to the other movies and to the books themselves, whilest taking into consideration acting and direction, storyline, visuals/sound efx and SoundTrack. I gave this Movie an Overall C- in HP Terms an A for Acceptable. The Acting was awarded a B+ Based on acting skills with the exception of Michael Gambdon who left something to be desired. the Visuals etc.. received a B+ as well for the outstanding/Excellent job that it incured. However the Storyline was a C- to D+ as it completely and utterly was disaterous. The Direction I also gave a C- to D+ as I fear the Direction that the story line Alterations have not only affected just this movie but the 7th and final one to come.

I think this one was the best one yet. I was very impressed with it because of how much it was like the book. The other ones were like the book, but they had new things that were not in the book. This one was as true to the book as could be. The action was good and it had a lot of humor too. I can't wait for the next one!! I think everybody needs to see this in theatres or at the IMAX, definently worth it! Don't miss out!

is the most important piece of information flashed on the screen. Not only are scenes added to the movie that never happened in the book, very important differences are made in the scenes in this movie and what was written in the book. i can understand simplifications of plot to shorten the movie, one can't get everything from the book into the movie, but important character and plot developments are left out and characters are simply missing. The greatest travesty is the ending of the movie.
i will tell my friends to see the movie - it is good and entertaining, it made sense, the technical aspects are brilliant, the acting top notch and insist they read the book because otherwise they've completely missed out.

The liberties taken with this film strayed farther from the book than any other Harry Potter film. While still fun (it is, after all, Harry Potter) I felt important pieces were missing and scenes were added which did not make sense, move along the story, or show the importance of the happenings. The special effects were, however, the best thus far and very fun to see.

Booorrriiinnggg! I didn't read the books so they tell me that is why I didn't like it as much but went with a party of 7 and generally all said that it was "ok" but not great--the movie didn't depict the book very well at all they said.

I understand why this was rated PG. The teen relationship development was cute and funny. However, most of the "dark" was taken out of the movie (probably) to make it appeal to a younger audience. Unfortunately, I think this hurt the movie.
Without giving away the details, the movie was OK for what it was, but it could have been so much more.
There was a lot of enthusiasm at the midnight show, so I will definitely watch it again in case I missed something that really makes it great.
But, for now, I'm looking forward to the next one.

A great movie that followed the book the best it could without going over 3 hours. I would love to see the next one and give props to all the actors and production teams doing this film, because in reality it was an amazing show.

I loved it! Of course not everything from the book was in it, but it was very well put together. You could definately see how they are growing up. The whole theater laughed in spots and of course like myself some cried. I highly recommend this movie.

Excellent movie. Not as rushed as the last one, though they did leave out some minor story details. Since that's typical of translating a big book to the big screen, it wasn't a shock. Acting was very good, as normal, and cinematography was excellent.

Enjoy this movie - the characters are funny and brave, and the story is exciting.
Liked having more Harry & Dumbledore time (which was missing from Order of The Phoenix). And thought that Lavender, the girl that loves our Ron, was a darling addition!
Do not read (or re-read) the book right before you go ... as I did. I understand that big decisions have to be made to cut an epic book down to 2 1/2 hours, but some of the most poignant and meaningful parts of the book (for me) were totally cut or treated very sparingly.
Still wild about Harry and very anxious for the final movie chapters.

Coming from someone who reads and adores the books, I was blown away by this movie adaptation. I was thrilled to know David Yates would be directing, because before the release of the Half Blood Prince, the fifth movie, also directed by him had my heart. I can not recommend this enough. There was emphasis on the characters, and the dialogue, not just over the top cinematography that appeared in the third movie. Even casting choices I was was worried about, such as that of Horace Slughorn, I was completely taken aback by how perfect he was for the role. Kudos David Yates! You're making the dream of the Harry Potter books be properly conveyed through the movies!

I love harry potter and I always have. And each movie has always risen to my expectations. But this one was a huge let down to me. The added scenes that werent necessary and took away scenes that were necessary for the future movie to flow. I'm curious as to how they are going to make the next movie now. They cut out so much of the more important information. They could have kept the original scenes and the movie would have ended up being the same length. And the ending was so disappointing. There is just no other word for it. For those who have never read the book it would be a good movie. With lots of humor. But for those of you who read the book I'm sure you'll be let down.

This was pretty good. The graphics and film work was very good. Acting was decent on Daniel Radcliffe's part. He was funny though especially when he drank the liquid luck. If not begging for more. I was displeased that the there was not as much action as they could have been. The climax ended as ubruptly as it began, but overall i was pleased. The characters really came into their own & the movie stayed true to the books truely. After waiting in line for more then 5 hours for the midnight release i was exhausted but there was not a moment where i couldn't keep my eyes open & glued on the screen! I left wanting more. I can't wait for the next 2 movie to complete the series!

Harry Potter movies have a habit of leaving things out and leaving holes but this one boggles the mind. As a fan of the books, it is neat to see some of my favorite scenes come to life but it seems like this one is just a list of disjointed happenstances that eventually lead to a sad ending. Not very much is explained and much is eluded to, leaving the audience wondering if it really happened or not. All in all it is a cute teen love story with great cinematography and effects. Worth seeing at least once, yet you might need to see it twice to understand what is going on if you haven't read the books.

Lots of details were left out that were essential to the motives of the story. i recommend this movie to friends, but with advice that its better if they have read the story. The midnight showing was really fun! Id been waiting so long to see the next movie and I felt like it lived up to many of my expectations. Harry, Hermione, and Ron were funny in this movie, their acting skills finally developing as they get older. However, there were lots of instances in which the passion JK Rowling tries to convey in the book is totally lost in the movie. The story had so much potential for really dramatic scenes. Disappointing, for sure.

When I first left the theater, I was dumbfounded. I was lost at how the director and screenwriter could have totally left out some very important parts of the story and then add things that did not exist (in the book). Granted, each movie has had some changes, however, they all fit in and were true to the story. In this case, however, the added scenes were not useful to the plot at all. Then ending was also quite anticlimatic. Those that have read the book would know there was a great battle at the end. Don't expect to see it in this film.
If the film had to stand on it's own, I would give it a B-. I think it still leaves quite a few questions unanswered. Otherwise, the read is 100 times greater than this visual.

While there are certain things I would have liked to have seen added to the film, overall the tone, atmosphere, and attention to detail in the back stories and sub-plots is the best its ever been in the series.
The characters are much more fully fleshed out, allowing for a much deeper look into the hearts and minds of previously unexplored characters.
Alan Rickman plays Snape to a T, and receives quite a bit more face time than in previous films.
Outstanding special effects work, though these days such things are to be expected.
Exceptional movie, would definitely recommend for all Harry Potter fans. Half Blood Prince is a welcome addition to the world's most successful movie franchise.

The entire feel of the movie was much closer to the feel of the book then any of the other films. The film moved surprising slow (good kind of slow as in taking their time). It was very detailed until the end. I would say the last 10-15 minutes were the only part I would have to criticize and that wasn't done at all well.
Was the ending disappointing? Very But did I walk out of the movie happy? VERY MUCH so. Great adaptation.

I've read the book so just as I expected, it would be sad in the end but the movie was a good watch in total. Ron was hilarious. Harry more mature. Hermione ever smart as she is.

I really enjoyed the movie overall. However, I was disappointed with some of the key changes made to the film. I thought that some of the changes were unnecessary and that the complex points of the plot that carry the 7th/8th films needed to be explained in greater detail. Hopefully, they will in the next film. The acting was excellent, the effects were excellent. I enjoyed the addition of humor as well. I was NOT happy with the end at all though.

This is another great film in the Harry Potter series, but not as good as I expected. I left the theater feeling a little let down, with 'is that it?' in my head. The movie is shot well, has great effects, and if you haven't read the books the story is great. Having read the books, I think there was way too much left out/added in. However, I highly suggest seeing the film.

I was highly anticipating this movie, and I went to the midnight showing. I was completely captivated from beginning to end. It's an emotional, exciting roller coaster filled with love, laughter and raw truth. The young actors have developed and honed their skills, making their characters come to life like never before. The minute this movie starts, you will be involved! The 2 hours and 45 minutes flew by. I suggest this movie to everyone, regardless of age! In my opinion this is the most mature and thought provoking of the 6 so far. Beware: There is snogging! ;)
