As a movie, the sequencing, drama, and points of plot focus were done fairyly well - at least, in order to keep a wide variety of moviewatchers interested. However, for those hoping the movie wont stray to far from the book, you might be disappointed. There are some scenes that had nothing to do with the book, some of the best action parts in the book were missing, and the ending offered very little closure and was rather abrupt. But -it definitely kept me laughing, and trying to guess what would really happen next.

I sat and watched this story unfold in front of me. It was exciting from beginning to end. It was not a movie where you had a thought of asking what time is it.. You were so into the movie that when it ended , you couldn't believe that so much time had passed. If you are a Harry Potter fan IT IS A MUST SEE !!! Enjoy the movie.

Let me first say that we are HUGE HUGE Harry Potter fans. We have been to all the book releases and the movie releases. I was a little disappointed with this movie. It seemed like there were some crucial parts of the book left out, and it also seemed a little slow in places. (If you can believe that.) The special effects were great, and the characters (Harry, Malfoy, Hermione, and Ron) seem to be a little more realistic. Even my kids were commenting that they felt they could relate a little more to them in this movie. Overall, if you are a Harry Potter fan, go see the movie. If you're not a Harry Potter fan, you probably won't like the movie.

I saw this at the midnight showing last night and LOVED it!!!!! It's the best HP movie so far! Of course, they changed some things and left others out, but not in a way that you can't follow it or that you're outraged if you've read the book. I would recommend this movie to anyone and everyone! It was a little more mature and had a lot more "snogging," but some parts were hilarious!!! There were also one or two scary parts. Be ready to laugh, cry, jump, and leave the theater talking about it!

As not the biggest Harry Potter fan, I thought The Half Blood Prince was great - near flawless. Worth seeing a second time. I know the people who have read the books might be upset, but they can't make a ten hour movie. Get over it and give Kloves and Yates some much needed props.

I really enjoyed the movie. However, as with some of the previous movies, a lot was left out that was in the book. I feel that some of what was left out would have made the movie more intense. I also believe that the part where Dumbledore is killed was not exactly as written and therefore it lacked the emotional intensity of the book. Overall, I liked the movie and would recommend it to any HP fan. I feel that you would need to read the book prior to watching the movie to understand some parts of the movie that were not explained.

While there were parts that were missing, they did a good job of taking the longest HP and making it into a manageably long and interesting moving. The visuals were beautiful and the acting was some of the best of the series, I think. I just wish the end had been a bit more climactic... I would definitely recommend seeing this movie.

If you're looking for a movie to compare to the books you'll be disappointed. There are scenes added that don't happen in the books, there are scenes that should have been in the movie that weren't. They also changed a lot of minor details, which is annoying if you notice, but they don't really affect the integrity of the story.
If you're curious about the movie based purely on its composition, it was wonderful! The special effects were great - check out the film with digital projection. My only complaint was that they made the ending kind of anticlimactic - there was a lot more chaos in the book that they could have played up on.

I waited in line to see The Half Blood Prince last night with the expectation that I have had of the other Harry Potter films: its just going to be a highlight reel. Having said that, I think that with that expectation in mind, this film was quite good. After reading some of the other reviews, yes, as a avid fan of the books, it is disapointing in parts, mostly in the films inability to pull of a decent ending. However, the acting, chemistry, and dramatic effects make the film a joy to watch. It was funny, emotional, and intense in parts which made it one of the better Potter films. Overall, I think this is a really good film that had trouble ending itself, similar to its predicessor.

I am a devout Harry Potter fan and have been obsessed with the books and movies since they came out! This was my first midnight showing and I waited over 5 hours in the rain and cold for the movie! Unfortunately, it was a horrid failure due to the fact that the movie had no flow at all; random things kept happening that were never in the book; and all the important parts of the book were left out! Now I am sad :(

You can look at this movie in two different perspectives, if you will. One way is to look at it on how well it followed the book. Personally (and along with many other people I am sure), I don't think it followed the book too well. I am terribly disappointed in the fact that they left out so much information that needs to be known for the 7th one. I also think the ending could have been dealt with a little better. I felt that there wasn't enough emotion in the end like there was in the book. Another way you could look at the movie is over all how well it was made with the effects and cinematography and everything. I thought that in this way, the movie was amazing!

We saw the mid-night showing with our 7 yr old twins who loved it. If you read the book you will be shocked by the important bits cut from the story. I have read all the books and reread them before seeing the movie and was disappointed with cuts from the book and add in's for effect. If you take the movie on it's own it is a great movie worth seeing. The ending leaves something to be desired, someone in the theater with us boo'ed the ending.

Although I enjoyed the movie, I feel that there was allot of information left out from the book. Understandably they needed to make the entire book fit into a short time frame, but what really irritates me are the added scenes that are no where in the book. I was disappointed with the storyline of this movie. The fight scene included in the movie is not the fight that was in the book, and the timeline of this movie was so mixed up that I had trouble following where they were supposed to be within the book.
Also, about half-way through the movie the film overheated and caught fire causing our theater and the theater behind us to lose about 10 minutes of the film as it had to be cut out to patch the reel back together.
I don't think its worth seeing a second time to get back the 10 minutes. If you aren't a fan of the films or the books, wait for DVD and rent it instead.

Coming from a die-hard fan, I can say that they changed a few things from the books (even adding a scene) while remaining true to what Harry Potter is really about: friendship and love. The dialogue was witty and the humor was hilarious without being too much, and there was a perfect blend between action, romance, and character development. They changed the ending a bit, perhaps too drastically, but it was still an incredibly great movie.

This is a really great movie if you have never read the books. If you have, you may be a little disappointed. I really enjoyed the movie. The 6th movie makes you yearn for the later ones. I enjoyed the acting, costume work, graphic enhancements, and the scenery as well as the funny real world predicaments. We can either choose to allow the bad things to eat us up or we can embrace the wonderful, loving, kindness and generousity of the world around us. Harry does a great job of accepting where he has come from and appreciating what he has. We loved the whole experience of going to the midnight show and seeing the movie! The movie was great! It contained all the key parts of the book needed to convey the story, and added some parts that (in our opinion) just added to the story. We appreciate why they changed what they changed.
My son was 11 when the first book came out, and he literally grew up with Harry. The whole family has read the books and watched the movies - so it is a fantastic family thing for us to share. My son and daughter are 19 and 20 now, and we all went to the midnight movie. It was like a Christmas morning, the anticipation and excitement! It's a time we'll all remember sharing.

This was just another disappointment just like the last couple of movies. They left out key areas and completely changed many others. So far I have to say that basing the movie on the book this has been the absolute worse movie. After seeing this I dread how much they are going to foul up Deathly Hallows. Do yourself a favor and just wait till it comes out on DVD.

Just like other HP movie fans, I went to the midnight showing. I did enjoy the film and felt that it was done pretty well, I am also disappointed that they let a great deal out that is in the book. I understand that it is impossible to include everything from the books because they are so long. But, all things considered the film is a good film and those who only see the films and have not read the books will LOVE this latest film in the franchise.....

This is yet again another successfull Harry Potter Movie. I would Honestly give it 5 stars for the movie. But if you are basing it off of the book, they didn't hit all the key parts. But what movie that is based off of a 600 page book ever is full accurate!? This is probably the funniest of them all. Rupert Grint has great comidic timing in this moive and get a sure laugh out of you. But you also feel the suspense as Harry learns the turth. It shows good virses evil in an amazing way. This was a good movie, not just based off of a harry potter fan's view, but just as a movie goer view. GREAT MOVIE. BEST SUMMER HIT! Should deffinatlly see it!

This film was absolutely fantastic to see. It has successfully created a backdrop that captures the magic of Harry's world and has simplified many things. (As it must to fit into the imposing time limit of the film.) However, the dazzling effects and beautiful sets cannot override a general understanding of the original book series on which the films are based. Severus Snape is one of the most complex and pivotal characters in the books, and this film rearranged his character and turned the Head of Slytherin into a Gryffindor.
I'm curious to see how it all works out in the next film.

It was horrible. Like all the others have already stated they went to far from the book. There was so much missing. I didn't cry from dumbledore dying but from the travesty of the movie itself
