I was a little deflated after watching the movie. I expected more magic and more action. I think the beginnning of the book was a much better opening. Why is Harry Potter in a coffee shop at a train station??? I really enjoyed the comedy. I think the acting is far superior to any previous HP movies.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince may have been enough for casual viewers. I will admit, I am a purist; the added Burrow scene basically killed me and Dumbledore’s death did not.
Given, the cinematography was gorgeous, but the problems with this film were myriad. The juxtaposition between the light, humorous romps and the slightly less fluffy parts was jilted. The entire production felt like Sirius’s last moments—”The laughter had not quite died from his face, but his eyes widened in shock”—except without the emotional response.
Yates did what he could (which was a lot, given the superb casting) but seemed to falter when presented with such dull writing.

I was so excited to see this movie! It didn't disappoint. It's lighter that the other ones, thankfully it's missing a lot of the angst and depression. It follows the book fairly well and the relationship drama is somewhat entertaining. Definitely go see it, whether you've read the books or not!

Alright, die-hard book fans will be miffed at some of the things that were added/left out, etc. But as film, it was EVERYTHING I wanted. The cast was Brilliant. Finally good to see Snape get some attention after all these years. It was a wonderful ride!

i liked the film alot and i understand that it's basically a set-up for the remaining films in the franchise. i've heard a few people complain about it, but i don't think they realize that this one isn't supposed to be all clean and happy at the end. it's supposed to leave you hanging and wanting more, which it did! overall, i think that david yates has and will continue to do the harry potter series great justice!

As a die hard HP fan, I opted not to watch any previews or trailers of HBP before it was released. I wanted to enter the theater with no expectations whatsoever, but I still walked in hoping (and praying) for the best. I was stoked! It was phenomenally acted and directed, and Kloves' (the screenwriter's) spin on Rowling's work was well-written. There were many hilarious puns and quips written into the dialogue to lessen the intensity of the film while still keeping the intensity of the book. While I was slightly disappointed with the scene in the astronomy tower, I was pleasantly surprised with Rupert Grint's outstanding performance as Ron. He's come along quite a way.

The liberties taken during the movie I feel do not change the story much if any in the ways continuity. Some of the segways taken bring the novel into a motion picture in that long or diatribe dialogue was condensed into a few seconds of action. The characters were developed more so than in the past. The film also captured the horrors of love and loss among the students. The themes are becoming more adult as the children progress through the series, e.g. puberty, sexuality, love, heart-break, and the case of Harry and Ginny, seemingly forbidden love. The movie was made for everyone regardless if you read the novels or not; and J.K. Rowling approves each movie.

Rowling's humor definately came through - teenager drama mixed with adult responses. Disappointing how things like the funeral /big castle-wide battle were left out - and no mention of of Fleur/Bill! Long scene of Wesley house attack never in the book unnecessary, could have been replaced with important scenes from the book - they could go stay at Grimauld Place and talk about how Harry inherited it from Sirius and they can live there as long as they'd like.... maybe these key thingsmore drama for next 2 movies? Well-acted, great visuals and flowed well - probably minimal confusion for non-readers. Read all the books, see all the movies - decide for yourself - but I enjoyed it!

Although a book purist, HP and the Half-Blood Prince film was one of the best of the bunch. It was very entertaining with plenty of humor and drama. I couldn't help but pay attention--even at 3:00 in the morning. However, I think it would be awfully scary for some children.

It was the same graphics as the others yet with different settings. It could have been way better. Personally I think this movie was meant only for IMAX! Then you could feel the REAL Harry Potter experience. I trully reccomend watching it in 3-D. I didn't get to so maybe thats the reason why I was a bit dissapointed. We went with a group of friends and had a great time! We really enjoyed the movie and all of the suspensful moments. I wouldn't mind taking kids over 12 but this may be too much for younger kids. I enjoyed the movie almost as much as the book.

I read the books religiously and honestly I didn't mind the movie. It was much betterf that the fifth one in my opinion probably one of the best. I didn't like the burrow fire. It didn't do anything for the plot and they stood there watching the house burn. To quote Hermione in the Deathly Hallows, "ARE YOU A WIZARD OR NOT?" I also didn't like that they cut out members of the Order of the Phoenix. Bill and Fleur were not there so I guess that means no wedding which will change some things. I did like it though but I wouldn't be surprised if someone who had not read the books was confused.

My son and I went to the 12:01 a.m. show at our AMC theater. The place was packed but moved well. The movie was great!! Since we didn't get out of the theater till after 3, a friend asked me if we fell asleep during the show. My response: "You couldn't!!" It kept you engaged the entire 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Compressing a large book down into a 2 1/2 hour movie is not an easy task, and there will always be something lost in the translation. This movie sets the stage well for the final two movies. The movie was entertaining, but I felt it was unnecessarily too PG. I was annoyed that the script writers deviated too much from the book by inserting dialog and scenes that were not supposed to be there. HP & the Half Blood Prince had many funny adolecent scenes which seemed to drive the movie. The feel and sense of urgency that a wizarding war was commencing wasn't really felt.
As usual the actors were brilliant, but the only dark feeling I was left with was the actual lighting used.

Not as much action as the book (or the last movies) but very well done. That said, even and 153 min. long this is more the cliff notes than the book. I think the drama was very well done, equal too or better than the book. Avoid AMC! They did not have separate seating, so the people with the tickets to the small screens all crowed into the main theater, leaving no seats for those with tickets to that room. No more AMC for me.

One could make the case that this installment lacks some of the action of the previous movies, although the same could perhaps be said about the book. All told, "Half Blood Prince" is a visually gorgeous rendition of Harry's tumultuous sixth (and, as we are told, perhaps final) year at Hogwarts, with a fitting statement at the end by Harry: "I never realized how beautiful this place was."

My Friend and I went to the midnight viewing and it was worth the ticket price. The movie was entertaining. Some scenes were slightly dark but the film lived up to the hype.
I am not a die-hard fan like my friend and brother yet I still understood the movie and the character roles.
Harry and his friends face challenges that have not been addressed in previous movies and new characters add comedy and spice to the film.
I recommend viewing the film for yourself. It is quite engrossing!

This is by far the best Harry Potter movie yet... still can't wait for the first of two movies based on Book 7. BUT as an avid HP book lover, there was a lot of missing details, even whole sections were cut or simplified. The book is called the Half Blood Prince, so the development of how we learn of this "prince" ties everything together, in the movie it didn't occur this way and left me wonderig what will be cut in the last film. Overall, this film was amazingly hilarious, witty, well-crafted.... it made me laugh, cry, cringe with fear - in short it contained everything a great movie should contain.
