They missed some crucial things, and the British-English accents we've grown to love aren't as "apparent" in this movie.
It's weird--it also looks like the Weasley mom was changed, but it's just different angles of her that make it seem like that?
However... this was the funniest movie of the six, and I'm still unsure why it was delayed 6-7 months.
I liked most of this movie though, and it covered 80% of the highlights I remember from the book.
The characters are truly growing up.
I also liked the "inventive" way of how it began--not quite RIGHT when HP and the Order of the Phoenix ended, but it was close enough.

The screenplay focused on combining the integral plot moments in the story and weaving them together seamlessly, If i had not read the book, and was using pure movie information, i would've thought it was perfect due to the great fights, romance, and plot, but if you try to compare it to the book, you see that it misses a few important moments the book has, but as long as you treat it as a movie, Harry potter and the half blood prince, will not disappoint.

I went to see the opening mid-night show. So excited, but so disappointed. Maybe it's just because the previous HP movies are so good, I expect this to be at least as good as the others.
Too many things got left out from the book in the movie, way too many romance stuff in relative to the amount of other materials. Not enough big fighting scene (especially at the end---it was kinda rushed). THings get added in thta's not from the book...etc..at one point, I was so bored that I was constantly looking at my watch wondering where's all the important, exciting scene from the book...
anyway, it's a funny movie, there's a lot of laugh during the show, but I'm definitely disappointed...

The movie kept me riveted. While there were some changes from the book, it was smoothly organized and, as always, the acting and special effects were wonderful. Go in with an open mind and a desire to enjoy yourself and you will have a great experience.

David Yates skipped a few parts, but put in a few additions of his own that made the movie loveable. It was very informative for the movie-goer that hasn't read the books, yet very entertaining for the book-reader who may be apprehensive or skeptical of the movie.
Overall, I say either way... go see it. The movie does the characters justice, they're all growing up and it shows expertly on screen.
Plus there's enough humor and awe to keep fans of all types very much engaged and guessing until the very end!
You won't be disappointed! :)

So i thought it was really good. I'll admit i was upset about a few things. Like Harry hiding instead being immobilized by Dumbledore and no fight scene on the staircase, also the fact tht we didn't see tht much of Tom Riddle's memories, which is really important for the next movie. Also why in the world was the Burrow blown up?? And the ending was a little cheesy/lame, BUT i still think it was pretty darn good it had a lot of laughs and i think it showed that they were growing up and the actors did a good job. I was pretty much entertained the whole time so i have to say: as a movie it's AMAZING, but as far as following the book.... it's okay. So overall: Pretty Darn Good.:)

I read the books first so im an orginal Harry Potter fan, the movie is very different from the book but WHO CARES! IT WAS STILL GREAT! THE BEST POTTER FILM EVER!

My friends and I made sure we had tickets to the opening show. We were disappointed. It was the worst of the Potter movies and strayed far from the book. It does leave you impatiently waiting for the finale. My advise: read the book, skip the movie

I thought it was very entertaining, however, they missed a lot of the key points from the book. I know they can't put everything in the movie, esp cause this is one long a** book, but, they downplayed Harry and Ginny's relationship a s**t ton. In the book, they were legit dating and kissing all around the Hogwart grounds, and in the movie she 'tied his shoelace' and they kissed once. LAAME. And they also didn't talk at all about Snape and him being the half blood prince. They mentioned it once at the very end but didn't go into the history of it all and well, that's the NAME OF THE MOVIE so I'm surprised they didn't. And finally they totally rushed the ending.. there was no intense battle and they didn't even have the funeral or anything.

I love all the Harry Potter books, I've read the series about three times. They are excellent books and we CAN'T expect everything we read to be in the movie. I've learned over the years that the films aren't going to incorporate every single thing that takes place in the books. It's hard enough just getting the BIG events to fit in 2 1/2 hrs. Give these people a break! If it weren't for them, we wouldn't have all these wonderful Harry Potter movies. Geeeeez people.

I am a huge HP fan, but was pretty disappointed with this movie. It didn't follow the book well. Events that didn't even happen in the book were added, leaving less time for the things that really did. And several things were changed. Not enough focus on the important memories seen in the book that help to train Harry for his mission ahead. And they missed a great opportunity for a killer action scene at the end with a battle with the death eaters. Good humor, but overall, not impressed. And I hate to say that!

Sure, it's still not as perfect as anyone whose read the books would like it to be & they did leave out a couple key parts (the 1st memory Dumbledore shows Harry which explains 2 of the Horcruxes & not properly stressing their role). However, it does show the characters growing & interacting very well with each other, in a way that makes you feel a part of being there with them that you feel when reading the books. You can't help but get caught up in it & the touches of humour help bring a certain overall balance to the film. I think it's the most complete HP movie thus far & gives me hope for the 2 part Deathly Hollows finale that if they stick to this new formula used in HBP, that DH will be equally entertaining if not more so.

As a reader of the books, here are my top four complaints. 1. it never should have been PG. It's a darker book with a mature audience PG13 would be a must at LEAST. Keep the kiddies at home parents (sorry!) If they can't read it they shouldn't see it. 2. Where was the great Harry Potter magical music we all know and love? Important scenes were left silent, which made it awkward. REHIRE JOHN WILLIAMS! 3. Anitclimatic ending, no fight or invisibility cloak. Enough said. 4. Not setting up the plot enough for the 7th book. I enjoyed the movie despite all the flaws up until the end. It just ruined my magical experience. They really need to step it up for the last two and get them right.

The movie did follow the book, but it was choppy and I was very disappointed. A few important details were skipped and I felt like the movie was a huge letdown. That made up scene at the burrow was just unnecessary since there is an attack there in the next book.

My husband, daughter, a family friend and I went on opening night. We waited 21/2 hours, but it was worth the wait! The movie was great! Yes, my husband and I are big kids. I was a little worried going to see the movie, knowing that things had been added in, that weren't in the book, but I am SO happy to say that I liked what they added. All of my favorite parts from the book made it to the movie! Of all of the Potter movies, I think this was the closest to the book that they've ever been, and is my favorite movie to date! We're never going to get the books word for word, but that's okay with me.....so long as they have the whole Molly/Bellatrix showdown in Hallows. I'll be pretty miffed if that gets cut!

Good movie. I have always been a HUGE fan of the books, so I won't say it was a great movie. It was put together well, but the plot line was broken up too much. They spent more time on the special effects than they did the plot. Enjoyed it though.

I am a die hard fan, I love the books and the movies. This movie was nice but, it was almost like a Harry Potter Paridy, it strayed from the book too much! Once you get over that and the big plot holes, then it's cute. It's nice to finally see the movie, this was not my favorite. The effects were great, it was funny, but it focused on the romance too much, a lot of inuendos!! And I agree, the screen writers add what they think should be in the books, not what is. It's like they divided the movie in half, the giddy teenagers in lust and the scrambling together of dramatic scenes. I'll just read the book if I need my Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince fix.

I have been a fan of the work that has been put into the Harry Potter movies until this new movie. Important scenes or scenes that would have made the movie amazing were cut. The last 30 minutes of the movie was a complete disappointment if you read the books. What happened to all of the action? They turned Harry Potter into a romantic comedy... Such a bad move.

I wasn't expecting that much comedy, but boy was I surprised! So many funny scenes with the trio.
Best line ever... Ron: So did you and Ginny do it? Harry: What?!
The flashback scenes of Voldemort as a kid were downright creepy (props to the actor). I thought they handled the Harry/Ginny progression awkwardly, making Ginny seem like she was throwing herself at Harry. At one point she knelt down to tie his shoes and gave Harry permission to hide her in the Room of Requirements. WTF? lol. I loved the pairing in the book, but they really tried too hard in the movie.
Aside from that relationship, the movie was awesome! Can't wait for Deathly Hallows!

I'm a little disappointed!!!! Although the special effect are amazing, however, many of the plot from the book was missing from the movie. As I remember from the book, the half blood prince was Tom Riddle aka Lord Voldemort, not Snape. The end of the movie I will agree to be quite accurate since Dumbledore did die in the book and that Harry, Hermione, & Ron decided not to continue the last leg of school, but to pursue to find the Horcruxes. Overall the movie is just OK!!

The wizarding world has taken a turn for the darker, all of which shows brilliantly through the films visuals, but the mix of humor, aided by some great one-liners, is enough to keep it all moving at a good pace. The Half-Blood Prince brings the main characters' relationships to the forefront and perfectly sets up the final showdown, with enough action to please the boys, enough love and sideways glances to please the girls and enough momentum to keep everyone asking "When does Deathly Hallows (part 1) come out again?" Finally a great addition to this summer!
