The difference between a movie and a book is that a book describes what happens and a movie shows you what happens. The movie tries too hard to be a book and fails as a movie. Unfortunately, in an attempt to please book fans, this movie really attempts to bring all of the elements of the book into it. It fails at doing that (the book is too long) and then fails at being a successful movie. It seems to simply be a bridge between the last movie and what is to come... and it is a long bridge (coming in at over two and a half hours).

Harry Potter and the Half Blooded Prince delivers everything a blockbuster movie should. Plot, action, interest, etc. Its biggest disadvantage is that it followed Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The Half Blooded Prince didn't quite have the twisting plot and conclusion of its predecessor but was close. Really looking forward to seeing this again on BluRay (no restless audience, no obnoxious kids or no texting during the movie)!

So, yes, the movie does leave things a bit open for the final two installations of the series, but what can you do? It is nonetheless a very good flick and I am happy that they tried to incoporate as much story as they could before the series ends with a big bang--hopefully. Graphics are also quite nice so I wish I was able to see an IMAX version, but I'll wait till the next two films to do that since there will be a lot more action.

The 1st 2/3 of the movie were fast-paced, funny, and thoroughly enjoyable. However, the ending lacked the punch of its bookmate, and even on its own merits was a bit of a let-down. The ending nearly spoiled the rest of the movie for me. It should have been a much bigger deal.

The movie was a solid movie, however it will be harder for people who have not read the books to understand the characters' motivations. It was definitely one of the better movies in the series (Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite), but it was a little slow in some areas. It's really nitpicking as the books became more dense starting with The Goblet of Fire. Overall, entertaining and worth the near year wait.

Although like the book the movie was darker than the rest, the time just sped by. It was wonderful. I do wish that the movie had ended with the funeral for Dumbledore as described in the book. I loved it!

Plot lines were fragmented! Great effects of the Death eaters, but why did they need to chase their prey on foot? No answers as to why they were doing what they were doing. All students stood around a dead Dumbledore without even trying one 'spell' to revive him? What the heck are they in school for? ....argghh and the only 'monster' so key in all the movies was a dead spider. This was supposed to be all about the 'kiss', and that was even missing! Waste of $18.00!

Before going into the movie I had found out that the ending would be a lot different from the book since the movie makers did not want two huge fight scenes in the last movies. Taking that into consideration, I was not disappointed in the least. Since there is always more in a book than a movie, I thought the movie was spactacular!. It is one of my favorites out of the six. Granted, there was a lot left out, but the main things were there and were true to the book. If you have read the books, don't go in expecting it to be just like the book (you WILL be disappointed), but if you go in expecting to watch a movie, you will truly enjoy the experience. I recommend this movie highly (especially if you enjoyed any of the last five).

I thought the movie was very good. I read the book as soon as it came out and have not read it again. I do that because I don't want to be disappointed in the adaptation and I also enjoyed being surprised again but what I forgot. The movie was better than the previous films, but that isn't really saying much with regards to films 3 and 4.
I read the books, and because of this, I enjoyed the movie a lot less than I could have. Particularly painful to me was the removal of several of Riddle's memories and the battle at Hogwarts from the film.
However, I did go with a friend who had not read the books and he thought it was good.
I give the movie 3/5 stars because it is worth watching, and is an overall good movie. The acting has significantly improved from the last film, and there are many good laughs in the movie. Most of my problems with it involve its frequent deviations from the book. However, I would still recommend to go and see it.

Overall, as with most series, the interest wanes. The movie makers job was challenged by a much longer and intricate book this time. Anyone who has not read it or is familiar with all the characters (and even a few who are familiar with the characters but not the book) will get lost.
Others have commented on how Daniel Radcliffe does not inspire as Harry. The older actors are accomplished and inspiring.
Read the book. Skip the movie unless you are a die hard Potter fan and need to see it to be complete.

I have to be honest, the first time I went to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince I was disappointed. It left a lot out from the book and even threw in a scene that was not in the book. So, because I am a long standing fan of Harry Potter, I went a second time and removed myself from the book. It turned out to be much better. I think I was expecting too much, but in the end, when I realized that it can not possibly put everything in the movie that was in the book, I liked it!! The scenes that were from the book were depicted wonderfully! I think it would have been better if they would have done the ending a little closer to the book! Still love it!!

As a latecomer to the Harry Potter story (and one that really had no intention of reading the books) I must say that while I enjoyed the movie, I wish they had chosen to film more of Hogwarts story line, and eliminated the Girl at the counter and the destruction of the Weasly's house. Of course having a higher body count would have changed the ratings. Michael Gambons "Dumbledore" has gotten better with each succeeding movie. I enjoyed Richard Harris' earlier Dumbledore, but I think that Gambon has certainly made the role "his".

I am a fan of Harry Potter. This is the reason of my disappointment! What's the point of the movie? It was no funny, nor romantic, nor magic and either enchanting. I am still very upset!

Don't be afraid to go see this movie, despite some reviews! As the kids would say, it was BRILLIANT if you are just a fan of the movies. If you are a fan of both the movies and the books, yes there are some things left out, as were things left out in previous movies, but overall it is still worth seeing and it's a wonderful adventure into the sixth year! Hopefully, with the last book being split into two movies, more of the details will stay in, but I can't say I was overly disappointed with the way this was put together. I, a fan of both the movies and books, still thought it was BRILLIANT!

It is nice to see the main actors improving. The young actors have really improved from the beginning of the series and except for the girl who plays Ginny, I can see decent careers for all. There is too much in the book that had to be left out which detracts from the story - but ain't that the way with all book made into movies? I, as with a few other reviewers, would have liked to see Dumbledore's funeral and felt it would have been a better ending that what they did. As a movie it may be the best of the series so far, because of the kids acting.
