With the exception of the "voice" (you'll know what I mean if you've seen the movie or you'll know right away if you haven't) this was the best Batman of the franchise yet.
With all the hype I was skeptical about Heath Ledger's performance being as good as people were saying it would be. But it definitely was as good if not better than I had heard. I didn't even think of him as being Heath Ledger; he was just the Joker, which, for me, is really the number one priority for a good acting performance.

Dark Knight probably ranks as the best of the Batman films. On the whole, I thought it was a very good movie. It's main weakness is that it is too long (attention started waning with about 20 minutes to go) and it loses its momentum in the last half hour when the story line falls apart as they try to do too much and go in too many directions. Aside from that, it was extremely entertaining and engaging, and is worthy of the mantle of best Batman movie based on what it had already done within the first two hours. Additionally, the performance by Heath Ledger as the Joker was one of the best villains I've ever seen. I'd easily agree that he is worthy of an Oscar nomination even though I'm not sure that I'd give him the award once I've seen what the competition is.

The Dark Knight was an exceptional movie, and I'll be going to see it again before it leaves the theatre. Never a dull moment, and the plot gets better as the movie progresses. All actors did a very fine job! I actually clapped and yelled out loud during one part...it embarrassed my 17 year old daughter, but it felt so good!! A must see for this Summer.

I was not a big Batman fan as a girl, but I got back into it when our son, now 24, reached fanboy age. We went to see "The Dark Knight" together and were simply overwhelmed by the power and range of this movie.
All the familiar motifs are there, but unlike the campy touches of earlier versions, Chris Nolan has reached right into the darkest heart of the Batman mythos and crafted a legend for our time. Through the Joker's insane anarchy -- summarized by Alfred's great line: "Some men just want to watch the world burn" -- we see the world today, along with the moral lines we cross in our fearful efforts to gain security.
The subtext is clear: Unlike certain political forces in the world today, Batman may cross some lines out of necessity, but he won't stay on the dark side. Deep within his darkness there still flickers a shining core of human morality, an almost Christ-like willingness to take on the world's sin that others cannot bear.
I went with no small amount of trepidation, still grieving the untimely loss of Heath Ledger. However, Ledger so completely subsumed his own shining personality into the Joker's darkness that the actor disappears, and only the madman can be seen. It's a stunning performance on screen, and it's only after the lights come up that you recall that it's never to be repeated.
Also never to be repeated, alas, is Maggie Gyllenhall's strong showing as Rachel Dawes. She makes you wish she'd played the character from the start, because she's so much more believable than Katie Holmes was.
Finally, let not Christian Bale be overshadowed by the villains. Bale's Batman has matured into a confident crimefighter, still hiding behind the mask of billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne. He has both Bruce's tender longing for a "normal" life, and Batman's steely unflinching commitment to rid Gotham (wonderfully played by the City of Chicago) of evil.
We fanboys and fangirls seriously hope that Oscar takes note of this stupendous film when the awards come around -- and not just for the explosive atmosphere of the special effects.

Not typically a fan of comic book movies, but this was one of (if not the) best. This is a much darker joker than previously portrayed, and batman shows he does have a human side.
Very good movie, great story, great acting (from top to bottom).

This movie was awesome!! I took two 13 year olds, a 14 year old and a 16 year old-nobody talked, moved or even checked their cell phones for the whole 2 1/2 hours of the movie!! The special effects were spectacular. The only possible downside was sitting for almost 3 hours-maybe the theatres need to bring back intermissions for flicks this long.....

This movie was terrible. It was full of cliche, long winded beat you over the head with the theme dialogue, a ridiculously sounding Batman, and sloppy direction. Key story elements were so convoluted and filled with forced suspense it was hard to tell what was happening (the Armageddon effect). Some good performances (not from bale, how can anyone make a man that dresses as a bat uninteresting and stale) do not save this script. Not once did I feel like I was seeing the Batman I know and love brought to life. This does not come close to what Marvel has been able to achieve.

Dark and gritty. Although it has some droll moments, it does not contain a bit of the slapstick comedy or comic book caricatures we have seen in previous adaptations. A great adventure and utterly entertaining!

The movie was just okay for me. The Joker was funny, which helped the movie a lot & the sound affects were good. I thought that some of the close-up shots were too close & unnecessary. Also some of the decisions made by the charters throughout the film were unrealistic. The ending just didn't work for me either. I thought there would be a sequel introducing "The Coin Man" as a new villain. The city of Chicago looked good.

definitley makes my top 10 list-beautifully done, kept my attention the entire 2.5 hours it ran, and left me begging for more! heath ledger dissapears in this role and all that is left is the joker. props to the screenwriters on the perfectly played dynamic of the batman and the joker.

The movie was wonderful---2 1/2 hours long, but the time flew. You don't even realize you really aren't that comfortable in those movie seats. Christian Bale's Batman voice was a little much, but you can get passed it. Heath Ledger was amazing as the Joker, taking the character in a totally different direction from what we've seen. There were no wasted roles in the film. Fantastic!!
