First of all, Batman has always been my favorite super hero. This was by far THE BEST Batman film created, written & produced. Heath Ledger did such an amazing job, it's scary how well he played the part of The Joker. 2-Face could have been done a little better but having The Joker as the main focus was a good call. Christian Bale, as always, did fantastic at playing his part. I think the next one should have the Riddler and consider using Jim Carrey seeing that he fit the part perfectly the 1st time with the laugh but with the FX of today he could be much darker in the role.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Dark Knight is very thrilling and very dark. Heath Ledger is mind-boggling as the joker. He was so convincing that you forget he's acting. He is amazing with his portrayal in his final role. Christian Bale also does justice to the role of the Dark Knight.
Definitely a film to see.

The movie is fabolously great! The action sequences keep you moving and the actors keep you involved! Joker is one scary MoFo and the kind of villain Batman should spend his time defeating. Do not take young kids - there are enough scenes which would give your kids will have nightmare.

Wow. I haven't physically jumped during a movie in a LOOOOONG time! I don't want to say to much to "over-hype" it, but sweet Mary, mother it *surpassed* expectations for me! I am a lifetime Batman fan and this movie, along with "Batman Begins", is how Batman movies should be done.

The Dark Knight was nothing short of incredible. I had read reviews that stated Heath Ledger's joker was now ranked among the top villains of all time and now I understand why. the movie was deep, dark, chilling, action-packed, and had several unexpected events. Absolutely love this Batman!

Wow, what can I say about The Dark Knight? Well, let's start with the bad, there are 2 annoying things in this movie, the first is Christian Bale's voice sometimes as Batman, he seems to lose his breath and it's hard to understand him. The other annoying thing is the dramatic "soap opera"-like music when something emotional is happening. But hey, it is still a Hollywood movie.
That being said, this film is the reason why people should pay $12 to see it. It delivered everything it promised! Christopher Nolan has yet to let me down and his depiction of all these characters helped us understand why they do things that they do.
Heath Ledger is amazing! Absolutely amazing! It's been a long time since I have been able to see an actor completely become his character in a way that it is difficult to imagine what he really sounded and looked like outside of the character.
Watch it! You will not be let down!

I don't want to go into mad detail, but Heath Ledger (bless the dead) definitely made this movie. He was a star amongst stars, and he delivered on how the Joker is supposed to be. I actually get annoyed with the way Bale (Batman) has to speak in that weird voice as Batman to cover his identity, but I guess it works for the movie. Just annoying:)
Bu the movie, visuals (tons of explosions), messages, and hidden meanings were awesome. It's 2 1/2 hrs long, so be rested...but great movie!

I love movies, especially good movies - all kinds of movies. But I especially love good action movies. I can't stand a movie with a terrible script, or ridiculas plot, or bad acting. This movie has everything you could possibly want from an action film: the script is fantastic; the acting is exceptional and, in some cases, Oscar-worthy; the action will blow you away. As both a Heath Ledger fan and a Gary Oldman fan, I was extremely happy and even pleasantly surprised by both of their performances - both of these fine actors deserve Oscar noms, and Heath deserves to win it, and not just because of his untimely death. You'll leave the theater wishing he were still around, because you'll want more of this demonic, maniacal Joker he characterizes so precisely. No one could hope to fill his shoes - at least, not in the near future. Perhaps years from now, a decade maybe, when the taste of this character becomes forgotten. Until then, Heath's performance will go down as his absolute best, and if he's not given his props come this Oscar season, then Hollywood is doomed to repetative flops. Christian Bale could have pulled back the hoarse voice a bit, and I was slightly disappointed in Maggie Gyllenhaal (Katie Holmes would have been better). Overall, I'd see this in the theaters at least one more time, and when it comes out on DVD, it will be played over and over again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I had the opportunity to see Dark Night at midnight. It was phenomenal! The action scenes were breath taking. If you love action scenes with twists and turns, you’re going to love this movie. Ledger put his heart and soul into this role. The crew members were correct on promotional interviews when they said that his untimely demise was not related to the nature of his role as the Joker in Dark Night. Give the sinister /mayhem development credit where it’s due, the writers! You can tell that Ledger embraced his role, portrayed it to the best of his abilities, and left the drama on the movie set. He was exhausted and dealing with family issues. All of the other actors were cool. I wanted more from the ending but I invite you to be the judge of that. I highly recommend this movie to thrill seekers and action lovers. Sorry ladies, it is not a chic flick. Enjoy!

great movie from start until the last 5-10 minutes. It sucked me in from the first scene, and the action and anticipation never stopped. If ever there was a character that you simply could not wait to have back on the screen... it is Heath Ledger's Joker. You can attribute some of the phenomena to his recent untimely death, but the fact is that this role he made his own. You know its Heath Ledger, but it isn't, it is someone who is really crazy, someone that has no emotions, a sociopath with a violent sense of humor... a real life maniac. He is sure to score with this performance come nod time, his command of the screen is towering compared to most roles i've seen taken on in the past few years. I'm reminded of Jack Nicholson teetering on the brink of insanity in The Shining, except in this case,... The Joker is insanity. Relentless with his pursuit of chaos and violence, the Joker makes this movie 2 and a half hours you can sit through and enjoy. Kudos to Heath (Aussie's don't really say that do they)

From scene one, to the last scene of the movie, engrossing and spectacular are the only words to describe what we saw. The movie's plot and character development have taken a huge step forward, and this movie has set up a nice backdrop to future installments of the Batman franchise. As "Batman Begins" introduces us to Bruce Wayne and his transformation into Batman, "The Dark Knight" shows us his world, and the conflicts that he must live with in his quest to rid Gotham City of crime. Heath Ledger as the Joker was easily one of the best performances I've seen since DeNiro in "Raging Bull". Ledger owns this role, and plays it exactly as it should be played. No more camp, no more cliche....this is Batman, and as a fan...its about time!

“The Dark Knight” is the best modern film within this new century. I had to state that right off the bat, otherwise the rest of my review would’ve been read as a fan boy gush. It’s a rare film that defies categorization; it’s a big budgeted, studio tent pole film, but it isn’t. It’s an art film dressed up as pop culture. It’s a film that has been rarely seen in many years that excels on every front, it was the needle in a haystack. It shows that these big corporations are better off giving the money to artists who can orchestrate a virtuoso performance in the grandest of stages. Whatever preconceived feelings or expectations you have, it doesn’t matter to the “Dark Knight”; it’s a rousing, unpredictable experience from start to finish.
And then there’s Heath Ledger’s the Joker.
Quick assessment will be to have people concluding that he’s better than Jack Nicholson’s Joker from 1989’s “Batman”. It’s apparently is true. His nervous ticks, his grand chaotic persona, will have people instantly in awe and in terror. Nicholson’s take was rooted in popular convention. It was one part the goofy, Andy Warhol-inspired clown played by Caesar Romero and the other part a noir influenced gangster. It was flashy and flamboyant; the perfect antithesis to bring in the 1990s. His Joker shot a dagger into the hearts of the materialistic, the practicing Reaganism, we eventually dispatched of. He attacked the rich in “Batman (1989)” by going after their greed. He was the 1990s before we had Nirvana and Gangsta Rap, before we saw the Rodney King beatings, all at a time before they existed. We just didn’t know it. It’s a good performance till this day, when viewed under its timeframe.
Ledger’s take is scary. If we use the model I presented Nicholson’s Joker in, then we really are in dark times. This new Joker can only exist in a post-9/11 America. Terrorism proves to be the catalyst that has opened up and ushered in a new world. “Welcome to a world without rules” is the film’s marketing tagline. A statement so utterly true for the film and our current day and age, we are looking at ourselves in a mirror. They say the best art and artists show us what our lives are like. If that is the case, then the Joker has shown us what we are becoming. He exists without origin, only here to create chaos, deform and possibly destroy society’s means and rules. He calls himself an agent of chaos and that is exactly what he brings. Nobody is left untouched by him; not Gordon, not Harvey Dent, not Batman, not the people of Gotham is spared his infliction. Ledger has left us untimely. He will not only be missed but will be never forgotten. His take on the Joker is so raw and unnerving, that once you get passed his odd speech pattern, his demented laugh, his reptilian ticks, you’ll realize that you haven’t been this terrified by a villain since Hannibal Lecter in 1992’s “Silence of the Lambs”. But you can’t look away. For it’s not the “Knight’s Tale” or the Oscar-nominated actor from “Brokeback Mountain”, it’s a man called the Joker, not Heath. Along with Hanz Zimmer’s unnerving theme for the Joker, he’s one villain that can firmly be placed with cinema’s best: Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, and Norman Bates.
With such a soon-to-be iconic performance as a villain, the film’s other villain will be over-looked. It’s unfortunate because Aaron Eckhart portrays the doomed Harvey Dent with such gusto, his eventual turn is all that more heartbreaking. It’s no secret Dent’s fate; we all know it since the character has been around nearly 40 years, but the time and unpredictable direction Team Nolan takes with the character is near brilliant. Keeping the audience guessing when they already know the outcome is impossible, but the Nolans’ have executed another rare feat. Dent’s fall is so much more tragic than its climax. He stands as a mightier symbol of hope than Batman ever could. In “Batman Begins”, Bruce’s parents stood up against the cesspool and the criminals as ordinary people who wanted their actions to inspire other citizens. This is the seed that birthed Harvey Dent. He stands for morals and good, despite the times of increased dread and criminal activity. While Batman thought his appearance would do the same as it would eventual for Dent, it didn’t. What did the end of “Batman Begins” promise? Escalation. This is what Batman has brought to the table now.
Villains are more theatrical and are willing to step boundaries unbeknownst in a time before Batman. But in Dent’s Gotham, he is determined to halt these ideas. He can do what Batman cannot. Bruce understands this and is rewarded with an opportunity to see a Gotham unneeded of a Batman. Dent is a ray of hope. But remember when I said nobody goes unharmed by the Joker’s wrath of chaos? This is what brings the tragedy of Dent’s fall and new transformation. What a great character Eckhart’s Dent is.
It’s amazing that this film exists in the form it does. “The Dark Knight” is many things, but the one thing it is not is to be calling it a superhero film. I thought soon this genre would level off. I didn’t expect it to ascend to a higher plane not seen in a huge, big budgeted action film, made for marketing reasons and escapist entertainment. It is not a superhero film. It feels like an epic, Greek tragedy, with the trappings of a Martin Scorsese gangster film. It that sense, it’s the best crime drama since “Casino”. But it also evokes ideas and themes within its characters and running time that call to it that ever so cryptic word: art. Dressed up as a movie to help sell toys and t-shirts, it’s a film that has fully realized ideas, situations, and characters, worthy of classroom discussion. Its technique is exquisite. Its execution is flawless. A comparison to one of Kurosawa’s works wouldn’t be pushing it.
It’s a borderline, subjective call, but everything is there for you to see. Enjoy the action, it’s there. Gravel at the acting; Bale, Freeman, Caine, and especially Gary Oldman give it. Look at the film’s themes, its title, no character is short changed. It’s a rarity to behold. A film so superb, you just need to see it and see it again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie is excellent. Went to the midnite show. Everyone applauded when it was over. Not predictable. My favorite movie this summer is "Iron Man". This is #2 ( a close second). A little weak in parts, but overall an excellent movie and Heath Ledger is the truth!!! He is easily the best villain ever (right up there with Hannibal Lecter). Kudos to everyone involved.

Except all of the negative reviews. Bale, Caine, Oldman, Eckhart all give solid performances. I do admit that the fight scenes that some critics have complained about are shot up close and personal but in my opinion it adds to the movie. It makes the action more Batman and less Kung Fu Master. In the way that Wayne is trying to fool his foes into thinking he's unnatural Nolan plays the same trick with the audience and I liked it.
One critic claimed that a certain character was wasted and I have to tell you they were wrong, so very very wrong. I don't want to spoil anyone but it's towards the beginning and for me it added to the idea that things have gotten worse. And that Batman has his work cut out for him on a pretty regular basis.
Others have complained about the last 45 mins of the film saying it should have waited for another fuller movie. What they don't tell you is without that 45 mins nothing is resolved. It would be like Dead Man's Chest. A movie simply to get you to the next movie and I am so glad that didn't do that.
The Dark Knight is on more solid ground than Batman Begins. It's ending is rounder and complete. The characters have subtleties built not only into their acting but in the scripts development. It's action is better. Everything has improved.
And finally Ledger. Those that find it morbid to watch him as the psychopath and think it added to his death are wrong, they don't know the facts. This performance had nothing to do with his death. He died because he was very sick and he took too much medicine not because he was driven insane by his own acting. Yet the myth that he was is so easy to claim once you watch his performance. He sells it to you 100% and some people will claim that he had to be insane to act like this. The truth is he really was just that talented. There is a bittersweet quality watching him but it's not morbid. It just makes you realize exactly what we lost and where he could have gone had he lived. Nothing was impossible for this actor if he could do this. He deserves very accolade we could give him and very word of praise that we can form.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I would have to say that Heath Ledger was hands the best acter/actress in this film. The movie was good. Better than the first, but I could not get enough of the joker. His mysterious ways, goulish laugh, and the writer leading you to not really know who he is or where he is from. Definetly the best performance by an actor this year. The story was good and special effects were good as well. Christian Bale was ok, but the actor that played Harvey Dent was way to chessie and awful. I think they should of killed him off, instead of making him two-face. The really only bad note was the movie was about 20 to 20 minutes too long. Too much story about Batman and Harvey. Not enough Joker.

I have been waiting for this movie since the release date was announced back in 2007. Even after all that anticipation, the movie lived up to my expectations and more.
This is undeniably the best movie release this summer. The characters (especially the villians) are expertly woven together in a web of corruption and seems realistic (unlike the Batman movies of the late 80's and early 90's). The story is amazing, the casting is excellent (Ledger and Bale, specifically, are amazing), and there are many plot twists that even comic-buffs aren't likely to predict.
I expect to see this movie several more times in the big screen, this is probably one of my favorite movies ever.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
