That's right....By the time the credits roll, you'll be strung out from this brilliant blitz of psychology and action. You've heard of Ledger's performance, and it lives up to the hype, but Oldman, Eckhart, Freeman, and the lot bring a passion to these characters that only the animated series has managed to muster. I don't review plot details, as I'm a stickler for surprises and wish for everyone to enjoy the twists of TDK as much as I did.
The singular flaw is Bale's overly gruff drawl as Batman. While he's kicking the tail-ends of criminals, I can allow for the intimidating voice, but otherwise, it was a bit over the top. But really, that's me nitpicking.
In a summer of superb comic book adaptations like the Incredible Hulk, Hellboy, and Iron Man, this one stands as one of the greatest of all time. In my most humble opinion, it's up there with Sin CIty, Christopher Reeves' Superman from the 80s (parts I and II), and it easily bests the first Spider Man.
I don't know how they'll top this one for the third installment...it simply isn't possible. Along with Ledger, the greatest incarnation of the Joker will rest in peace.

I enjoyed the movie a lot. It had great action sequences. It had many turns and twists that I didn't expect. The acting was great. Christian Bale makes a great Batman, and Heath Ledger is one of best Jokers I've seen. Everyone should see this movie.

This movie was beyond all my expectations. the action, story line, and plot of the movie seriously kept my attention. I cant wait to see more. Very dark movie. And very much plays by the expected rules while (and, usually, by) breaking them. Christian Bale manages a tremendous feat, which is to not be blown off the screen entirely by the supporting performers; this Batman is anything but forgettable. The late Mr. Ledger's performance is everything that has been said, and moreso; he managed to create a villain that veers from funny-scary to just plain scary. As he plays with the minds of the protagonists, so, too, does he do as much with the minds of the audience. With all due respect for Katie Holmes, Maggie Gyllenhall did a better job; she came across with the necessary ballsiness to be believable as a crusading assistant D.A..
Hitchcock talked about creating suspense by showing the bomb and showing the protagonists conversing and not knowing about the bomb. Mr. Nolan has, with the Joker, taken that conceit and turned it on its head, because, even if we were informed about The Bomb (either literal or metaphoric), we could never be sure what The Joker was going to do with it.
I already can't wait for the DVD ...

I thought the movie was fabulous. I think Heath Ledger was absolutely amazing. Christian Bale was also great again. Everything about the movie was outstanding--the cast, story, action, humor. I really enjoyed the film and would highly recommend. I cannot wait for the next one. (not sure who the villain would be though)

Plot was mostly good but a bit of a hodge podge towards the end. Two-face didn't get much of a shot. Ledger did a great job impersonating Jack Nicholson's Joker; I know no one will agree, but that's what I thought. Bale was pretty darn good as well.

Sequels. We love them, and we love to hate them. We love the fact that we get to see familiar faces again, and hear them interact. We love to hate the fact that we get to hear them say things that sometimes are completely out of character from what we learned about them in a previous film.
So I'm glad to report that DK has absolutely none of that. Everything that was great about Batman Begins is back, and everything that was slow is gone. We know Batman's origin now, so there's no need to spend half an hour or so rehashing it. That's half an hour we get to see Heath Ledger's Joker being the most cold-blooded Joker ever filmed. It's a shame the man died, because I would have LOVED to see him reprise the role another time. He did to the Joker what Jack Nicholson did to the Joker: he completely redefined the role.
And they named the film appropriately. It's DARK. Gotham has never been a sunny and cheery place, and that is captured here from the very beginning. There's a lot of death, on both sides of the law. The Joker kills, and he kills indiscriminately.
My one criticism of the film is that I wish Two-Face was in the film more. I've never said that I'd like to see more villains in a film before, but Aaron Eckhart was so good in this as Dent.
I'm really hoping that DC learns from this film. I'm hoping they bring Wonder Woman, and the Flash, and Green Lantern, and all the rest of their catalog of characters into the cinema, and give them the same respect that they gave to the Bat this summer. Marvel's finally figured out the formula that works for them, so now it's DC's turn.
Go see this. Now. Stop reading this review, go buy some tickets, and see it. If you've seen it already, go buy some MORE tickets, and see it again. I'm finished typing this now, and I'M going to go see it again.

If you're going to see The Dark Knight, the first thing I would reccommend doing is either bringing a catheter or a bedpan because this movie is long, and if you look away once, then you will miss at least one important detail that makes the entire plot seem relevant. Actually, if I had to summarize the plot, I'd actually be saying everything that's already been said. The interesting thing about this movie is that we already know the plot. The Joker comes in, and terrorizes the city, and Harvey Dent and Batman try to stop him, and Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face. We know that much, but what's really cool is how it's executed. But I won't spoil that. So I'll jump straight to the characters. Batman's dark and broody, Harvey Dent is a vigilante who will stop at nothing to get what he wants, and the Joker's just a nutjob. That's it. This a review, not a spoiler. Oh yeah, and Rachel Dawes is in there, but Maggie Gyllenhaal plays her like she's an on/off switch. Either she's one character, or she's another, and it's nice to see a middle ground once in a while. But that's just picking nits here. This movie is what the title states: simply superb. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker was absolutely terrifyinig, regardless of his status in this world. If he was a hobo on the street, I would be saying the same thing. If someone asked me to recommend this movie, I would recommend it to them, their parents, their grandparents, their ex-girlfriend, current girlfriend, and future girlfriend/wife/ex-wife and their unborn children and grandchildren. This movie is fantastic.

I went to see this movie honest because it was one of Heath Ledgers last movies and I heard that the performance he gave was good. I must say that the movie was AWESOME and his performance is nothing short of PHENOMINAL! It is a long movie but well worth it! All of the actors did a fantastic job in this film by keeping you on your seats edge for the entire movie. I definitely think it is worth the time to see it!

The Dark Night
This was not a disappointing movie at all in my opinion. The acting on everyone's part was flawless. In particular, Heath Ledger did an amazing job with the Joker. Would I have taken note of his performance without all of the hype in his death? Maybe, maybe not. Regardless, I couldn't imagine a better performance.
This movie had a completely different feel than any other batman movie. It actually didn't feel like any other superhero/comic movie at all. It almost fits in with other action/suspense movies with some crazy man just out killing for the fun of it. I'm trying to think of an example, but I'm having a laps at the moment. Maybe the Hannibal movies or The Bone Collector, but not really... This movie is just different. Maybe you understand what I’m trying to say. It's in a category of its own. It is dark feeling.
The only thing that didn't particularly sit right with me (again this is my opinion) and it didn't hurt the movie, it just stuck out to me, involved the hospital blowing up scene. It started out great, but then when things really start to blow up, the photography and shots taken made me feel like I was watching a news program or something instead of the movie I was watching. This was only for a few seconds, and then we were back on track. None the less it was an awesome scene.
That's all I'm going to say. I don't want to ruin anything.
Go watch it for yourself. See what you think.
I really don't think anyone will be disappointed.

Heath Ledger's Joker; a study in pure evil. Along with the finest sound editing/music, will make you leave the theater hoping that this is just a movie....and maybe you do have to burn down the forest to excise some of the nastiness that exists. Sad but true.

Okay, so I haven't seen that many movies yet this year, but this is good.
I don't believe its a hands down oscar performance by ledger but a definite solid one. Christian Bale is terrific as usual. Its much darker and violent than previous Batman's. Its like the comic version of Infernal Affairs (The Departed).
A Gyllenhaal and Ledger combo is always a winner.
