This movie is spectacular on every level. You will not be able to anticipate what is coming next, not even for a second. And the more you do, the harder the movie becomes to anticipate. You will be on the edge of your seat for the biggest ride of your life!

The highly-anticipated sequel to Batman Begins deserves very bit of the hype it received prior to release, if not more. Every aspect of the Dark Knight--acting, plot, cinematography, score, messages, emotion--was excellent and thoroughly appropriate. My one nervous fear--that Heath Ledger's fantastically creepy portrayal of the Joker would take over the film at the expense of other characters--was allayed by the well-balanced composition of screen time and character development/interaction among the major characters. It is likely you do not need encouragement to see The Dark Knight, but I cannot express how well-done this movie is, and that you (as I intend to) should see it at least twice.

The movie was amazing... just like the critics were raving about. It was more intellectual and complicated than any regular superhero movie. Heath Ledger was amazing and brought the Joker to life. His presence was haunting in the movie. One thing you should know about this movie, is don't go in thinking you'll get the Hollywood, sugarcoated, happily ever after ending. And that is a reason I loved the movie. It ended the way it should, life doesn't always go as planned. Go see it!!!

Since Tim Burton's imaginings of Batman in the late 80's' early 90's ended up in tragedy, Batman Forever anybody?, Batman has almost had a stigma attached to him. Christopher Nolan shook that off with Batman Begins. Begins was an awesome movie, no questions about it, but I still preferred the 1989 Batman to it. With The Dark Knight, I was wary of the portrayal of the Joker. The Joker has been, and will be, my favorite comic book villain. Heath Ledger's performance every bit lives up to his hype and his memory. He genuinely makes you not like his character. From the onset with the Joker's entrance, you can't help but think, "holy crap, this is amazing!" It's just that good. Aaron Eckhart's role has Harvey Dent/Two Face (don't say that's a spoiler, I could tell in the trailer) absolutely hits that character dead on. He wasn't as flamboyant as Tommy Lee Jones, but he didn't have to be the sole positive in the movie the way that Mr. Jones had to be. Maggie Gyllenhaal's taking up the torch for Katie Holmes was excellent. Rachel Dawes was a character I found obnoxious when Mrs. Holmes-Cruise portrayed her simply because she was an obnoxious character. Dent's presence in Gotham changed that because now she's not the focal point, Harvey is. Christian Bale is easily the best Batman, he just is. Only Negative to his role is the gravelly Batman voice, and it just annoys me, but doesn't detract from the experience. Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon just rocks that role. Mr. Oldman is one of the most stellar character actors in Hollywood now simply because he evokes exactly the emotion about his character that he needs to. Jim Gordon's portrayal is easily my favorite in any Batman movie. If you actually read these ramblings, this means you could very well be on the fence for wanting to see this movie, and in three words I can tell you my opinion, go see it. For all of the reasons I stated before, and reasons you haven't seen yet, go see it. Easily one of the best pictures of the year.

With all the hype over this movie, I was really excited to be going on opening day. I was really let down. The plot was imperceptible and not at all what I was expecting. It was barely passable entertainment and not worth going and fighting crowds. It seemed to drag through most of the movie. I kept thinking it was at the end, only to find more! I'm not sure if it would be getting the same reviews if Heath Ledger was not dead. Maybe people are feeling sorry for the situation. Ledger did do a good job acting his part, but still not a great movie.

Okay, I liked it; but not quite as much as I had hoped, going in.

Look, I LOVE the new Batman franchise, starting with "Batman Begins." Unlike so many comic-book-to-film series, it takes itself seriously, and it brings first-rate acting talent to the enterprise. The production values are stellar, too.
<P>
But in thinking about the film after I saw it last night, I have to say that it didn't hit me with the force of "Batman Begins."
<P>
To be sure, all the elements of a great comic-book-film thriller were there. But too many elements, I think. Everything about this film was just a bit too much.
<P>
The decibel level in the theater was too much.
<P>
Heath Ledger's Joker was wonderfully sinister in his quieter, more menacing moments; at times, though, he was over-the-top and just too much, too.
<P>
The fight scenes, especially the one at the end, were just too frenetic; you couldn't tell what was going on. It was like watching a fight scene while seated on a passing roller coaster.
<P>
The plot itself was overstuffed with too many subplots -- subplots involving Harvey Dent (which was the strongest, and okay), but also good-cop Gordon and his family, plus the girlfriend and her romantic triangle issues, plus the mob. Also, too many machinations going on simultaneously: the Joker, the mob, dirty cops, problems within Wayne Enterprises, emotional issues with Bruce Wayne, emotional issues with Harvey Dent, emotional conflicts at the end, between a boatload of Gothamite citizens and a boatload of criminals. I mean, YEESH.
<P>
When I'm really involved in a story, I never look at my watch. I looked at my watch at least four or five times during the two-and-a-half-hour running time of this film. It FELT long, because it was just not tight enough.
<P>
Will I recommend this to friends? Yes -- but with those caveats. It is a film that Batman fans will enjoy; it should be seen on the big screen; and it has a lot going for it -- but it also contains too much baggage along for the ride.

Everything about this movie was done to perfection ! The script was serious, and intense, the action was non stop, and the spec efx/ CGI was seamless. I couldnt tell which were real car crashes& explosions and which wasnt.(maybe they were all real ?)
As far as the acting :
I feel that Christian Bale is the perfect Batman,- Bruce Wayne. Athletic, good looking, and he creates the intense brooding ,personality with his voice.
Heath Ledgers performance was chilling ! During an interview on "The View" Gary Oldman said that Heath was trying to achieve a villian style reminicent of the psycho characters in " A Clockwork Orange", and Anthony Hopkins ' Hannibal Lecter . The makeup was only half the scrare. The combinaion of the errie voice,and twisted smiling expressions , made it even more disturbing ! When we came out of the theatre, there were in coming movie goers dressed up as The Joker. thats the hightest compliment an actor can get.
One thing I would like to add, Gary Oldman also said that on the set of the movie, in between takes,when Heath was out of character-he was just a normal , happy guy, joking and laughing, so Gary doesnt believe that Heath got taken over by his character . thats just press-hype !
Aaron Eckhart as 2 face, was also very good ! Gary Oldman ,- Im not use to seeing him in a non- vilian role, but a great actor is a great actor and he plays the police chief /good guy, role excellently .
Then ,there are the old time professionals:
Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. As usuall, they turn in powerhouse performances.
A totally enjoyable movie, worth the price of a ticket , for sure !

This movie is easily the best superhero movie ever made. More than that though, it is probably one of the best movies that I have seen in a long time. Most movies tend to be predictable in their plot, but this one keeps you guessing what is going to happen next, throught the whole movie. The Joker is espically great, I don't see how anyone else could play him now that Heath is gone. A must see movie.

Simply stunning. The Joker's role treads the thin line between the insane and the genius. Ledger's performance earns the 5 stars, and everyone else in the film deliciously clings on as the film spirals into the Joker's chaos. Superb

I thought it was a great movie-kept you on the edge of your seat-and threw a couple of surprises you didn't expect.
Heath Ledger was in top form and gave The Joker another whole new dimension above and beyond the Jokers who have gone before him...I liked Jack Nicholson as the Joker, but I will never again think of the Joker as anyone else but Heath Ledger. It's sad that he gave one of the best performances of his life and won't be here to enjoy the accolades I have no doubt, that he will be given.
Christian Bale is as Sexy as ever and I think the only one who should ever play Batman.
The special effects were above average, and had me jumping out of my seat a couple of times!! Definitely a must see!

i can't say this about any other movie, but THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!!! my heart was pushed in every direction and i loved it! nobody's performanced lacked, brilliant cast. i know it's just a movie but it was sooo real, i mean emotionally it felt very plausible. i put myself in the situations and the choices i would make. this movie is a master-piece! i saw the midnight showing and then i woke up and saw it again and i can't wait to see it in imax! i need to see it like 10 more times!!!!!

The movie is what the title says.... very dark. Heath Ledger is the best Joker i have ever seen! I give him 5 starts. There was ALOT of violence and unnessesary deaths that did not have to take place. Don't take children to see it. The amazing costuming/make-up and computer graphics used for Two-Face was incredible but not needed to corrupt the dreams of children. The movie was AMAZING but brace yourself for a thrill!

I've seen Batman and the villains of Gotham City evolve over the years from Jack Nicholson as the Joker to Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face and I would have to say that "The Dark Knight" is by far the best combination of Batman and villains. I have never read any of the Batman comic series because I'm more of a watcher but I have seen and worshipped all of the movies. The Michael Keaton movies were always my favorite and they are in many ways incomparable to the Christian Bale movies due to the changes in actors, time, and directing styles. The Dark Knight was evil mixed with good and brutal yet humane. "[Gotham] deserves a better class of criminal," and Heath Ledger, the Joker of The Dark Knight, gave the audience just that.

The acting in this film was some of the best I have ever seen. I was worried at first when I heard that Ledger was going to be the Joker, but I was stunned by his performance. He was really amazing, but so were many of the other characters. As someone else said you will see all the twists and turns coming but be surprised when they get there. This film truely gets out of the comic book movie feel and into much more mainstream. Nolan's writing and direction of the film is superb.

You definitely won’t be disappointed. Heath Ledger of course is reason enough to go see it and his portrayal of the Joker is so convincing it was pure entertainment to watch from start to end. Though, I felt sad realizing he won’t be here to enjoy all the accolades that are sure to come for his performance. Christian Bale did an awesome job as usual, and he's easy on the eyes. =) Plus all the Batman freaks and fans came out and it made it fun to see them all dressed up in Batman attire. The local news was there which helped to make for the frenzied feeling you got when walking up to the box office. So I guess that yes, I am recommending to go see it!

This was the best batman movie by far. Heath Ledger did an amazing job as the Joker. We barely noticed the 2.5 hr running time of the movie because it constantly kept you on the edge of your seat. Would definitely recommend.

Easily the best Batman movie ever, and certainly a candidate for the best movie of 2008. "Iron Man" was a lighter and more fun version of this billionaire-vigilante-comic-book movie genre, which I love, so I'm glad this wasn't just another one of those. It's a fantastic sequel to "Batman Begins", but this time less fantasy and firmly grounded in a real city representing Gotham (Chicago). Heath Ledger as the Joker is amazing as the incarnate of pure evil, who enjoys killing but prefers to force others to kill to savor the mayhem. It is the thinking man's comic book movie, almost operatic in its fight between good and evil with Batman stuck morally somewhere in the middle. Batman's gadgets are not the focus (though he has some great ones this time), instead the good-vs-evil is. The end product is highly believable for today -- no suspended disbelief -- so the terror of the story sticks with you for a long time afterwards since it cannot be so easily dismissed. Expect a sequel.
And for God's sake, don't bring your 5 year old 'cuz you're to lazy or cheap to find a babysitter and traumatize him! What are some people thinking?? I took my 13-year-old boy and one disturbing scene is still stuck in his mind.
