I know everyone loves The Dark Knight. I fall into that category too. However, I had some problems with it. One, the only thing saving this movie at the box office is the fact that it's a really good movie and the hype didn't kill it, remember Snakes on a Plane?
Everyone turns in solid performances and yes, Heath Ledger was a very solid Joker. Nice and twisted and he made it his own. More so than Nicholson even. I don't know that I'd say it's an oscar worthy performance but very close. I know the sympathy vote is there since he died and I'm sure he'll get nominated. I'm just as sad about it as the next person.
I would've loved to have seen how he would've kept growing as an actor.
But as another poster put it, give him the Oscar IF he deserves it. I agree with that statement.
The movie is long, too long in my opinion. And it felt to me that it was about to end 3 times. I would've liked to seen a lean, meaner movie in the 2 hour range.
I do think Nolan has rebooted this franchise in ways many couldn't comprehend before Batman Begins.
Now the next big question is, who on earth will the next villian be? It's going to be tough to beat Ledger's Joker.
To sum up, it was very entertaining, just too long.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie absolutely dominated all previous superhero movies. Ledger did an AMAZING job as The Joker and I am so upset they will have to find someone else to play The Joker now - I don't think his performance can be beat.

The Dark Knight is a very good movie, one that is getting extra hype because of Heath Ledger's death but is strong regardless.
Personally, I liked Batman Begins a little more, but it's a close call. My only beef with the Dark Knight is it starts to feel a bit long after a while. There seem to be several points where it could end but it continues on. I guess the good thing is, that means more bang for the buck for the audience.
This is a very good sequal that's fun all the way through. I highly recommend it.

amazingly well done ! the acting was fabulous all around - Christian Bale is definitely the best Batman ever. Gary Oldman was terrific, as was Aaron Eckhart and Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Heather Ledger should be nominated for a posthumous Oscar for Best Actor and he should win. and I loved the cameos by Cillian Murphy and Anthony Michael Hall. I would highly recommend the movie to everyone.

I hate to jump on any bandwagons, but this movie was great. Much better than Batman Begins. I'm a huge fan of Batman movies, but these have a gritty real feeling that is very different from previous Batman movies. It makes it a lot scarrier.

One of the best movies I have seen. The Chicago setting is much more realistic than the old Gotham, with its comic-book-look. The acting is superb, and Ledger is everything I anticipated---deliciously evil and he just doesn't care. Bale is the greatest Batman yet, but I wanted to see more of the Batmobile. The music is terrific and the sound was excellent.

There come those scant few times in film history where a movie is called a ‘classic’. It is where all aspects of making a movie comes together and produces something that has never been seen before, or shows you what occurs when you get a director, a writer, a cinematographer, an editor, and of course, actors working at the same level. Casablanca, Citizen Kane, The Seven Samurai, Godfather 2, just to name a few. Those are the films that leave you buzzing with excitement and the need to see it a second, maybe third time, because you were too mesmerized by what you saw the first time around.
The Dark Knight is one of those films.
Looking at the film from a purely cinematic level, the direction and pacing of the two and a half hour long film makes to go by so quickly you think you must have dozed off somewhere, because it does not feel like a film of that length. Each scene sets up the next so fluidly you cannot take your eyes from the screen. And, as the saying goes, there is not an ounce of fat anywhere. There is not a moment that you mutter, ‘The movie would have been better if you chopped off x-minutes’. In this case, if you remove any scene, it will take something away from either the plot or the growth of the characters.
The action scenes are done in a perfect slam/bang manner, and the scenes of suspense are played that you could cut the tension with a knife and still not get through all the way. This is a crime film, where the criminals have taken over the city and beyond. Where the Man With No Name, or the Dirty Harry takes it upon himself to take each and every villain down on their own level. Where the ‘vigilante’ has to allow himself to give trust to certain people of like mind in an environment that is filled with rampant corruption. Where the hero, feeling that after he and his few comrades in arms, can finally rest and return to the shadows, finds that there is yet another foe to deal with. One who commits crimes at random, where there is no reasoning, where the gain is not profit or power, where the ultimate goal is anarchy and chaos.
If this was left to that alone, this film would be on par with the aforementioned Godfather 2, or The French Connection, or Serpico, or the better parts of Heat. But the concept is taken to the next level.
This is a ‘comic book’ film.
The Man With No Name is the Batman. The hero’s partners are Lt. James Gordon and D.A. Harvey Dent. And the villain to come out of the shadows is the Joker.
The acting is done well enough that you may have a difficult time seeing Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart in any other role; especially Oldman, who after a career of playing the more psychotic fruits from the poisoned tree, shows why he is a great and renowned character actor.
Bale comes back after Batman Begins with a deeper continuation of his triple character. Again, Bruce Wayne is the spoiled playboy who treats the world as his playground. Batman is dark and after a few scenes, you get used to the gravel-pitched voice. And as Wayne’s true face, you see a man weary of his fight, but too dedicated to stop. And after the Joker makes an appearance, you see and hear a fascination in Wayne, not unlike someone seeing something that disgusts you, but you cannot tear your eyes away.
Eckhart is perfect as Harvey Dent, who sees everything in black and white. Either you work for the good of all, or you are the cause of sadness and defeat and must be stopped. His moral drive is the center of everything Dent does to enforce the law; his one and only motivation. Where each step is planned and not left to chance. And when the ultimate occurs, showing Dent that fate can go in either direction at the flip of a coin, you see the tragedy in a man so immovable in spirit that the walls come crashing down on him.
Way too many accolades have been heaped on Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker. The praise has come from the streaked white-faced clown, to the clips shown on television and online. One may think that we, as the audience have seen the best parts of the character already. This is not the case. There is far more that Ledger does in this film that has not been seen. And it is his monologues that show the true talent of this actor.
And this is not your Smilin’ Jack Nicholson, or your giddy Mark Hamill Joker. What you see is what you’ve should have seen all along; a malevolent, psychopath that is the only one to see the humor in the most heinous deeds. This is a portrayal of villainy that will go down in history. An evil that will rival Anthony Hopkins’ Lecter. A man who is pure insanity and loves himself for it. A man who makes you shrink in your chair, seeing what he may do and makes you fearful that he will.
And as you watch Ledger, grinning, laughing, smiling, and uttering bile in this memorable character, you feel a sense of loss. His like will never come again. No one since Robert Deniro became Jake LaMotta has buried himself so deep in a characterization, and when this hits you, you feel your heart break because you realize there were so many characters for Ledger yet to come.
The Dark Knight is what comic book movies should be. This is what movies should be.
This is what you should see.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I saw the Dark Knight yesterday. It makes all the other films I've seen this year seem like nothing more than popcorn movies. I've see a lot of good movies this year, but this one tops them all.
It's not a perfect movie, but the flaws are minimal. I've never seen the genre treated so seriously on film. The performances are strong and believable. The plot and dialogue are tightly executed. I believed that this situation could exist in the real world.
The Joker will never be the same to me. I never saw the character as a truly frightening menace until now.
The themes of morality, justice, sacrifice and loss are presented with so much depth and variation in meaning as to give the viewer much to consider in regard to the world we live in.
I've caught myself thinking about the movie a lot over the last 24 hours. It's haunting me.

Simply put, The Dark Knight is the best movie to grace the silver screen in a LONG time. All of the actors' performances were spot on, and (the late) Heath Ledger was absolutely amazingly terrifying - and funny as hell...demented really. The story line was rich and gripping - you get to see the ethos in all of the characters; they each have their own demons with which they struggle, and sadly, one of them loses their life. There were a few twists, but they were not introduced clumsily (*cough*Hancock*cough*). I'm planning on seeing it again, and the fact that I live in Chicago makes it even more memorable.

TDK is a fantastic thrill ride from star to finish. The late Ledger was brillant as the joker and though it's runtime is a little long a 2:30, there are very few points where the story seems to drag. That said, it is VERY dark for a PG-13 movie, and I'd strong caution parents due to the dark tones and graphic violence.

If Batman were a real entity in a real world, a situation like this would indeed play itself out as we've seen on screen. The joker is not a terrorist, although it would be easier to label him as such; he is more the anithesis to Batman's attempt to control the criminal element. Batman can be the hero or the scapegoat, whatever Gotham needs to move from darkness to light. This is an outstanding film; it transcends genres and should be nominated as Lord of the Rings was for similar reasons. It has so many layers and it is tasty too.

It was the most amazing, suspenseful, action packed film I have ever seen. It was wonderfully sick and thought provoking. The Joker's sadistic style of logic, made me hope to never encounter anyone like his kind in real life. Christopher Nolan was always groundbreaking to me especially with Memento, but this movie here, made me really see what an amazing visionary force he is to the film industry. I am excited and anxious about what is to come from his gifted mind in the future. All the actors were perfectly picked for this movie. The movie was so great that I have to go and see it again.

Stunning! Ruthless! Wicked! Just a few words the describe the power and majesty that is The Dark Knight. For once, the hype of a movie matches the actual movie. This 2 hour and 30 minute masterpiece is one of the greatest super hero movies to date with stunning performances by Christian Bale and Heathe Ledger. Mr. Ledger is up for a academy nomination I believe and I think he deserves.. not because of his passing... but because his Joker performance is just that good. Go see this movie now!
