Dark Knight Definitely Dark But Still Hopeful.

I haven't seen all of the Batman movies though I've seen a few. I don't always like superhero-type movies. However, I really did like The Dark Knight. While it definitely has a very creepy and dark overtone, there are still glimmers of hope kept alive by key characters and some of the decisions made by other characters in the movie. I really wanted to see this because I think Heath Ledger was one of the most gifted actors around. He was incredibly scary and yet, provided good psychological insight to how The Joker became who he is. The acting world will definitely miss all that Heath had to offer. My son is twelve and we usually restrict him from seeing PG-13 movies but we let him see this one with us. He agreed it was very creepy but he did like it very much. There were some scenes that, in my opinion were awfully intense for a PG-13 movie. If those few scenes had been handled a little differently, I would have felt totally comfortable with my son seeing the movie. Nonetheless, the film angles, lighting, effects, and editing were all excellent and the movie is well worth seeing on the big screen.

Knight Will Blow You Away

This film was fantastic from start to finish. Initially, when I heard there would be a second in the Batman Begins series, I was beyond excited. The first was paramount and I was interested to see the second.

However, as with all sequels, most times it is never as good as the first and I was sure this would be the case when I heard Heath Ledger, may he rest in peace, was going to be the Joker. I had much love for Jack Nicholson and didn't think anyone could top his performance of the character.

Ledger did that and more though in his swansong performance. His Joker was gritty, insane, and lived for one thing--creating chaos wherever he went. The voice gave chills, the mannerisms were downright creepy the games he played were deadly and he was an altogether darker character. It was perfect.

And because of that, Bale had to produce a darker character too. Bale was brooding, conflicted, and kicked bad guy butt as expected. It was fantastic to see is conflict and turmoil on screen though, as Bruce tried to reconcile his Batman persona.

And then Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent--it was perfect. We got to see the transformation of a optimistic, truly good guy to something dark as well, his transition to Two-Face.

And then there's the ending--it resolves well, but just as Batman Begins ended with it's hint at what to come, The Dark Knight does the same and I can't wait to see it delivered.

This movie was fantastic and a movie I honestly had no qualms about spending $10 on and would and likely will do the same again. Everyone should go see this--especially those who love Batman.

TDK strives for something most summer films won't

Most comic book movies don't really treat the material with the respect that The Dark Knight does. Even a movie like Sin City, an oft-cited movie in terms of its fidelity to the original graphic novel, just comes off as camp and ridiculous because of its insistence on trying to visually match the graphic novel experience. In my mind that is a useless pursuit in the adaptation of a comic world into a movie. With a focus on the visual and visceral, the most common result is usually just a stylistic success but never an emotionally or mentally challenging story experience.
The Dark Knight understands the idea that rotting these allegorical stories and figures in a tactile and realistic setting you can achieve so much more than the usual gut reaction experience. By using the character and the battle ground of Gotham City, co-writer and director Christopher Nolan has a world in which he can tell a story about the price of being "good" in a world that seems to become more and more susceptible to evil every day.
This movie succeeds on so many levels it's scary. Heath Ledger is better than you'd expect even under the most unrealistic of expectations. Bale turns his usually solid and stoic performance as Bruce Wayne and Michael Caine becomes even more of a pleasure to watch and listen to. Overall, this movie is my favorite of the year and I have seen the best the summer has had to offer so far (Iron Man, Wall-E). Looks like the old DVD shelf will get one bigger when this comes out on disc in the fall.

Best Batman Movie Yet ! The Surprises kept coming. Joker was great !! so was two face. The reality was there with what can be done with cell phones now a days- both with bombs and... you never know who's listeneng... anyway... I would recommend it highly-give it a five star and am probably going to see it again!

This has to be one of the best movies I have seen in years. Christian Bale is the best Bruce Wayne/Batman there is and the way the plot unfolds is tremendous. The plot takes some twists and turns that will really suprise you and at the end your just left in awe! I thought the way they made it set in present day time was great also, made the plot more believeable. Alot was made about Heath Ledgers role as the Joker and I believe he played an unbelievable role. I also believe that Gary Oldman (Jim Gordon) and Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent) are acceptional in these roles also. I am so looking forward to see if they do come out with any more future shows. If they do I hope they can keep the cast together.

By far the best "Batman" movie ever made!! Intense and full of excitment. Gorgeous Christian Bale gives his usual exquiste performance, but nothing can top the creepfest that is Heath Ledger's Joker! Sad that he doesn't get to relish in this performance as he should have. He will be missed!

how do people like this movie? i wanted to walk out!!!!!!!!!! i understand its a good story but it was too long. heath is the only thing that made me sit through to the end. and christian BLAHHHHH needs to stick with american psycho and stop using that corny voice. OH and congrats to the female half of tomkat for passing on this multi million dollar movie. my respect is lost for you. fantastic.. bravo. way to turn a batman lover around. great job guys. i would have rather scrubbed my bathtub for 3 hours at least the time would have went by quicker.

AMAZING

Since this thread isn't so old I figured I would post here rather than make a whole new review thread.
Saw it last night with my Girlfriend. It was simply an AMAZING movie. The acting, effects, screenplay, all worked together to turn out an amazing, sophisticated and genially dark movie; it was probably the best movie that we're going to get for awhile.
The movie felt like more of a ride than it did a movie. As if we had been transported to some theme park. There was a lot of dramatic explosions, butt-kickery, and bone-crunching skyscraper leaps that made you feel you were there because of the director's ingenious decision to use more footage and less of today's do-it-all-with-blue-screen standard.
The plot and screenplay is also extremely sophisticated. Although the dialog is far from Shakespearean, it does amaze and impress with it's varying degrees of thought about the nature of good and evil, heroes and sacrifice; making the viewer forget throughout the entire experience that this is a remake.
I do have my gripes though. The movie seemed to thrust us into the plot, and didn't do enough plot-build up in the beginning. It was like the entire movie was the climax. There was no rising or falling action. Although this made the movie extremely intense, it made it hard to follow at times. Certain scenes seemed way to quick, while other drawn out.
Also, in true Comic-book style; the characters seemed to have a lot to say about who was the Hero, and what the nature of good and evil were. This really follows the routes of what a lot of comic books were for: the edumacation of young teenagers; yet it seemed to create this sort of in-your-face sense of morality that is ill-tailored for a movie as dark and graphic as its content insinuates.
Overall, I loved the movie, and would definitely recommend it.

Phenominal Movie

"And Here We Go." Just when I thought Batman Begins was one of my favorite movies in my DVD collection, I will now have a new one once this comes out on DVD. It's been a long time since I've been at the edge of my seat during an entire movie and I was completely blow away by The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger's potrayal of The Joker was frightening and brilliant at the same time. Christian Bale even more brilliant and darker in his second portrayal of The Dark One and Gary Oldman pulled off an Oscar worthy portrayal as Gordon. The only advice I have to anyone going to see the movie is, go see it at an IMAX Theatre or if you live in the Phoenix area go see it at the Cine Capri at the Harkins Theatre at Tempe Market Place...it makes the experience ten times better.

I admit, the Dark Knight is a good movie. Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker is a good portrayal indeed, even though I was not a fan of his makeup. And Two-face was definetely good too. The movie IS two hours, but if your into action and suspense, then that is negligable. The only bad thing I find about this movie is Christian Bales Batman voice....it is incredibly hard to understand. That and the situation the character Rachel Dawes gets in...was one part that confused me.
Bottom line, its a good action movie.
