From start to finish, this is great movie making. Most sequels only try to re-capture what made the original movie work. The Dark Knight actually advances the storyline. There is real character development and progression – in addition to all the things that made Batman Begins work. The pace is really fast; without being cluttered. There are no wasted scenes. Heath Ledger gives a truly great portrayal. His is now the definitive Joker (sorry Jack).
This isn’t just a good Batman movie, or a good “superhero” movie – it’s a good movie!

This movie was excellent, even though it was long. Heath Ledger did an outstanding performance as the Joker. He had ever mannerism down to the point that I didn't even recognize the actor. Aaron Eckheart also had a wonderful performance as Harvey Dent/Two face. The storyline was good and peaked at the right points and at other points it dragged. The only thing was that I didn't like too well was that it was extremley long. But overall, I give it a 10 out of 10.

Well written, great direction. It works on multiple levels. Heath Ledgers performance was Oscar worthy and Chritstian Bale's portrayal of the Dark Knight is on the money. Micheal Cain's performance seemed a little diminished from his prevous effort but still top notch in all respects. Aaron Eckhadt's portral of Two-Face was amazing, showing the duality of the character to such an extreme.
The only fault I can really find is the two evil characters were scarry as hell. I found them totally convincing as people who have no idea that there is another side to life, filled cute pink fuzzy bunnies and warm fields of daffodils. These two movies (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) have brought the Batman series to a new level of excellence and I can only wait now for the next installment.

This is how Batman is suppose to be portrayed. I didn't think the Joker could get any cooler. Just when you think Batman had it in the bag the Joker had another trick up his sleeve.
Heath did the damn thing and its a shame he's not here anymore to carry on!!

I don't get a babysitter that often to go out to movies but I pulled the trigger and got one to see this. It was the best dark film I have seen in a long time. Heath Ledger was amazing.

If it wasn't for Ledger this movie would receive little rave. Yes, he is died and that is the reason many people went to see the movie (note: there is another movie he plays in yet to be released). However, you stay during this movie and recommend it to others for the amazing performance he gives. Ledger completely disregards Jack Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker and honors the original DC Comics Villain #1 by playing a homicidal, psychopathic maniac with no purpose in life other than to destroy others. I love it. Aaron Eckhart lights up the screen as Harvey Dent and even more so towards the end of the movie.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

After looking forward to this movie since seeing "Batman Begins", I have to say I loved it as much if not more than I anticipated. Great writing...everything was beautifully done. Heath Ledger was amazing (as expected) and it made me realize what a dedicated actor he was and what a gift of talent we movie lovers have lost. I was mesmerized every time he took the screen. He truly gave his all, didn't he?

I was just so surprised on how well Heath Ledger played the Joker. Before I saw the movie I didn't think he was gonna play a good joker. My personal oppinion I think he was the best Joker by far! Overall I think the movie was GREAT and I can't wait till the next one!

I'm not a huge Batman fan, but my husband is.
He liked the movie a lot. I didn't mind watching it w/ him. I liked it better than Batman Begins.
Some people had pretty young children with them -6 and 8 I'd guess. I think that was way too young for this movie. It is scary and creepy.

Going into this movie, I had very high expectations, and throughout the long Batman epic, it delievered time and time again. As many twists and turns as you could possible want. Great acting by Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, and of course, the late Heath Ledger. He really should possibly be considered an oscar underdog for his performance as the Joker. Go see this movie!!! It's long, but totally worth it!

When someone thinks of the name Joker, I imagine the image that coems to mind is that of Jack Nicholson in Batman the movie, which debuted almost a decade ago. Jack set a precedence one which few people ever believed could be broken.
In The Dark Knight, the movie focuses on the redemption of Gotham, and the theme that it is sometimes darkest just before the dawn. Batman the masked vigilante has all of the criminal running scared, and new cops, good cops have begun to sign on to the police force. In addition, one Harvey Dent, the city's newest DA, has risen to take a fearless, and open stance against the mob bosses of Gotham.
Introduce the Joker, played by Heath Ledger. To say that Ledger's prtrayal of the Joker was even better than Jack Nicholson's is not only a bold statement, but also an understatement. Just as Jack Nicholson created a Joker noone had ever seen before, Heath Ledger created Joker even more diabolical, psychotic and evil. Whereas Nicholson's Joker was wild and wickedly crazy, Ledger's Joker was in fact well-thought out. While still maintaining the wild and unpredictable nature of Nicholson's Joker, Ledger was able to also blend in an almos timperceptible touch of mastermindedness. It isn't until about halfway through the movie that one realizes that the Joker isn't as crazy as he appears, he has been manipulating everything the entire time.
In the end, Batman once agains shows that he is incorruptible. In order to save the city of Gotham, he willing surrenders his honor, taking the blame for several vigilante style murders.

This movie was action-packed from start to finish. The story was awesome, the visual effects were outstanding, and the acting was top notch!
Obviously, the Joker stole the show! It should have been named the Joker movie. And the love-triangle between Bruce Wayne, Rachel, and Harvey "Two-Face" Dent added some depth, lacking in most action movies these days.
Many parts of the movie are shocking, and the excitement never ends. I had to go to the bathroom about halfway through and held it in, because I wanted to see what happened next. And I'm glad I did. If you get up for even two minutes, you're going to miss something important.
Overall, great movie. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this may just be the best movie of 2008.

I'm not into action/adventure films as much as I am into comedies. It is very rare that I find an action film that I love and yesterday was that day.
To be honest, I don't go to the movies as much as I did when I was in my twenties. It takes a lot to drag me to the theater these days. I'm glad that a co-worker suggested it. This movie was brilliantly written and the acting was truly great. I will have to say that Heath Ledger did an awesome job in portraying the Joker. There were no shortcuts taken in this film. It was so full of content. Every time you thought it was about to end, there was a twist (I love that in movies). If I try to say more I could end up actually talking about it and I don't want to ruin it for anyone. I strongly suggest that you see this film.

I have only one criticism of this film, Maggie Gyllenhaal. Rachel Daws' character is supposed to be...more than Gyllenhaal. Katie Holmes might not have been ideal, either, but woud have been better.
That said, this movie was great. It is a future classic. Heath Ledger's performance was disturbingly brilliant. He dwarfed every other actor in the film, including Gary Oldman, who is brilliant and did a great job here. Go see this movie, twice. Then, buy it and watch it at home. Ledger is gone, the next movie in this series will not be as good. Michael Caine was great, too, by the way.

I thought the movie was very good - howver I do feel like it was drawn out too long. There were some very exciting moments and unexpected suprises that made the movie fun. The Joker was excellent but Batman himself was somewhat boring - he was basically defeated the whole movie and you could tell - very little action from him. I wanted so much to LOVE this movie - but I ended up just liking it.

The action - sounds weird to say this given the fantastical nature of the movie - but it came off so real and authentic.

I really enjoyed the original Batman movie with Jack Nicholson as the Joker. I enjoyed this one even more. Heath Ledger did a super job at playing the Joker. The movie was 2.5 hours long but it was so good that it sure didn't feel that long. A definite must see. This will be part of my movie collection.
