This was really a great movie. I was very impressed with every second of it. I never even realized how long it was as it kept me intrigued and excited the whole time. I personally do not think this is a good movie for children under 12. This is certainly a movie for more mature audiences.

Usually movies have trouble living up to their hype, but not the dark night. This movie brings the superhero out of the comic books and mystical world into mankind and keeps him there. Batman and Joker are more human than ever and you find yourself caught in the swing of every emotional swing and twist. Heath Ledger's performance was believable - it is no wonder he was having trouble sleeping as he poured himself into this role and became every aspect of the crazed Joker.
You don't have to be a batman fan to enjoy this film.

The whole movie was edge of the seat action. I had to pee about half way through the movie and could not would not get up and miss a second of this move. A MUST SEE.

The Dark Knight was one of the greatest movies ever made in the last 5 years. It was simply a tour de force and a film that should be remembered as the single greatest super hero movie of all time. It has a great story with a lot of action and twists in the plot which is all the making for a superb film. Never has there ever been a Batman movie like it before, it is the best of them all. It shows that Batman is no regular super human, but meerley a man of average strength. It is an amzong peice of work that Chris Nolan had brought before us.

I loved this film. I was super impressed when I watched it, I've watched it twice so far in the theatre and I wouldn't mind seeing it again. As soon it comes out on dvd I'm purchasing it. So many people told me this was a 'dark' movie. Well I should have listened to them. This movie is just senseless violence followed by more intense violence to come. And the story made the cops look like idiots.
What really surprised me as the number of 6 -10 year old kids at this movie. No, I'd never recommend this movie to anyone. The Batman franchise is dead from what I can see.

At this point, encouraging you to see The Dark Knight is probably a moot point. Already shattering box office records for first day and opening weekend while rapidly approaching the $400 million dollar mark, it's the first film to have a legitimate shot at dethroning Titanic as all-time champ (which I don't expect, but wouldn't that be something?). So, odds are, you've seen it already or you're planning to soon (if you've haven't, I've gone three times to compensate). This review won't be about why you should...it's about why it is worthy of those records and the award buzz already surrounding it. It's about why a film about a billionaire dressing up like a bat to fight a clown is one of the best dramas of the modern film era.
To reflect, Christopher Nolan's 2005 reboot of the franchise, Batman Begins, was hailed for returning the character to his roots as a shadowy character with a twisted (if noble) sense of justice. Batman has always been one of the most fascinating and enduring "super"heroes because he isn't super. He's just a man, albeit a very wealthy and driven one, but even so...with the right training, trust fund and childhood trauma, any of us could strike fear into the hearts of criminals.
After seeing The Dark Knight, one gets the impression that this was the picture Nolan was truly aching to make...he just had to get that pesky origin story out of the way to bring the character back from the farce Joel Schumacher (and to a lesser extent, Tim Burton) created in the 90s.
As Knight opens, we've seen the fruits of Batman's work in Gotham City. The mob is being worn down at every turn...he is able to strike them just outside of the law while still cooperating with the police, who are, in turn, emboldened to step beyond their own internal corruption. Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) is pleased with his work, but he wants to be sure he's inspiring the right kind of action. He finds that confirmation in the charismatic Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), the new District Attorney who truly believes in what the Batman does and sees it as an example for how the common man can stand up for what is right. Bruce sees something in this man operating without a mask that he can't be...including the romance he has with Bruce's childhood friend Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, taking over the role from Begins' Katie Holmes).
Naturally, the mob isn't keen on these developments, so they eventually turn to, as Bruce's faithful butler Alfred (Michael Caine) puts it, "a man they did not fully understand." That man is known only as The Joker (Heath Ledger). If Dent is the inspired, humane response to Batman's actions, the Joker is the equal, but opposite, reaction...a literal agent of chaos with motivations that are, essentially, non-existent. This dichotomy is precisely what fuels the movie...Batman is merely a catalyst for these two to battle for, as Joker puts it, "Gotham's soul." There's a reason Batman isn't in the title.
All this drama and political allegory doesn't replace the action that one would expect from a summer blockbuster. It simply enhances and elevates it...a distinct reason why this movie is bringing in so much money and appealing to audiences outside of the aging nerds like yours truly and teenage boys. Batman still kicks butt and the movie's action centerpiece, a rousing chase through the Gotham underground, still makes me giddy with each viewing.
Of course, the biggest story of the film is Ledger, who turns in the performance of a lifetime in his last complete role. His Joker is a magnetic fireball of energy, menace and perverse glee. You know that a memorable villain has been born when you find yourself laughing at how he commits a murder. From a distance, you're in on the joke, but you know that if this man walked into the room your life would be in danger. The biggest tragedy of Ledger's death may be that we can never see this character on screen again...how can anyone possibly fill his purple suit and smeared makeup? He will likely receive a nod for Best Supporting Actor and deserves it. One can only hope the rest of the film gets more recognition than Oscar usually pins on such movies.
The Dark Knight is so much more than a "comic book movie." It's a powerful action-drama that dares the audience to see more than just a man in a costume...a new high-water mark for the genre that goes far beyond box-office receipts.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Besides the obvious entertainment value, I was so inspired and thrilled by the representations of grades of good and evil. There is no black or white for the most part in our world. But Batman proves himself worthy of true goodness by acting only in love for others by the end. How inspirational to see this in our hero. There are those who are good people (like Gordon, Rachel, Alfred, and Lucius) but behind the scenes and not called to the forefront of great things. There are those who are bad for the sake of greed - with selfish motive - but still play by some rules of decency (the mob and the corrupt law enforcement). The 3 main characters are of most interest. There is pure evil with little regard for self but to promote chaos (Joker ). Batman sees Dent as his replacement - someone in the lime light with power and goodness to see Gotham through to become a better place. Dent is good, but proves to be weak and unable to follow through with his mission. He falls short because he cannot become the selfless hero he needs to be to bring about the vision he had. He made it about himself. Batman, in the end, learns that you do the right thing for the greater good rather than care about pleasing and impressing people - or yourself. Anyone who always does the right thing will be persecuted. It's actually quite Biblical. It's something to see more than once to get all you can out of it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The movie had its good parts but overall both me and a friend thought it was a little overated!
Heath Ledger i thought did a decent Joker but lacked the riddles that the original joker made his character. Also Batman went from being mild mannered Bruce Wayne to a Clint Eastwood voice from Dirty Harry. We were a little confused why the people claimed Batman had been responsible for so many deaths never giving him credit for all he had done right. Other than the cool bike the tank like vehicle really lacked anything that made me say wow!!
The movie was too long as well.
Once again i thought it was a good movie to go see but could have waited to rent.

Despite the hype about this movie, frankly I did not enjoy it very much. My wife and I both agreed that it was too dark, depressing and left us feeling drained by the experience of watching the movie. The ending left us with little desire to see a sequel, if they choose to make one. It ended on such a "sour note" as to leave a bad taste in our mouths. Heath Ledger's performance was great - but it didn't make up for the overall experience of the plot.

I expected this movie to be "dark" as the first one was. I just didn't know how sadistically violent it was going to be. The scene where the Joker "makes the pencil disappear" was the beginning of a sad and senselessly violent movie. I thought this one should be rated R. I for one will not be buying the DVD when it is released.
