Prior to the movie release I had purchased the game for my PC and was blown away! Then to have it all come to life in the movie was unbelievable!! 5 stars! The best thing since Lord of the Rings! James made this world truly real and unigue from any landscapes ever seen. I like the storyline message about repsecting the cultures and customs of a people and how governments disgrace themselves in their greed!

This movie is a MUST see! Absolutely amazing. Although it is a long movie, 2hours 40 minutes, it keeps your interest the entire time! I would absolutely recommend this movie to a friend. And I wouldn't mind seeing it again myself!

Some critics have compared this to the same experience as watching Star Wars when it was first released in 1977. Though I wasn't alive then, I felt like I could have been in the world of "Avatar." It was truly an experience to watch.
It's speed of the story felt just right as I don't see how it could have been shortened any less without removing essential information or the emotional impact of the story.
Do your self a favor and watch this.

A seamless mix of CGI and RL actors advanced quite a lot since the times of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". Breathtaking views, spectacular effects, fluid dynamics of body and face movements... And on top of that - never a dull moment during the whole 3 hrs...

Haven't seen many movies with a lot of this kind of animation, but I found the movie to be excellent. It is way, way, way above average in basic humanistic concepts. Honestly, I sat there thinking to myself, this movie must has extraterrestrial contribution. I can't imagine people on earth being about to do this.
Now, that said, it's only flaw that it is basic Hollywood good guy / bad guy drama. The script could have aimed even higher.

We found the movie to be way past our expectations! The colors, the beauty, the movement, and the connection of their soles were fantastic! It was fantastically entertaining. We didn't want it to end...we highly recommend it!!!!!

Though, Cameron's Avatar went into production even before Radio Nowhere came out, the song was a call to arms for artists eveywhere. Avatar is a fitting and brilliant response... which many will determine a masterpiece. The movie depicts the contemporary dilemma between Science and Art, where Science is alligned with a tired, greedy and destructive industrialism, and Art to youth and Nature, tied to a spiritualism which has not yet been fully discovered. It advocates both a will to preserve the environment, and to discover what good may come from the controversial stem cell research. It condemns the greed-driven or militant use of technology for profit rather than human spiritual advancement .

The RealD effects were great, but the movie was pretty lame. The aliens were %90 unclothed throughout most of the movie and the weird vudu made me uncomfortable. I can tolerate a few "I love trees and mother earth" comments, but this was over the top. This is a sensual cartoon at best. I regret watching it.

Great movie. Action packed. Not too science-nerdy, but enough to make it real. Filmed with the epic scale and grandeur of the Star Wars films. This might be the start of another collection of films on that scale. Classic archetypal themes and mythologies are mined for this script, introducing a new generation to the essential and timeless parts of storytelling at its grandest.

One of my top 10 movies of all time, no question. I loved the theme of the Chi energy lifeforce that exists (and is now measurable by scientists) in all living things, and connects us all. Someday a majority of humanity will be educated by our science communities about this fact. Oh, and the special effects were amazing. This is a film I'll need to see a 2nd time in the theater.

This movie was awesome. I only wish that I had seen it in 3D. My boyfriend saw it in 3D and Imax but thought that I would enjoy it more on the flat screen. My youngest daughter 9 wasn't completely thrilled with the movie, but my 11 year old daughter loved it too.

You learn to expect nothing less than excellence when you pay to see a James Cameron film. Not only were the visuals amazing, but the plot had meaning and depth. Cameron definitely looked to send a message through some of the characters and lines from the script. The environment and character development provided the substance needed to care about the climax of the story since it runs close to 3 hours. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver performed with emotion and spirit. I would definitely go see the film again, but in IMAX-3D next time.

A Visually stunning film, I watched it in 3-D and it was the best 3-D film I have seen ever. I loved the story line and the amazing characters. I took my younger son and he thought the movie was the best new movie he has seen in the last year or more. This movie will be a treasure for years to come and I look forward to more se/prequels if they make them.

I am not usually impressed by visual effects, but there are many other reasons to go: excellent acting, interesting story, good pace... it doesn't feel like you're sitting there for almost three hours.

A newer, darker take on the Ferngully story (on another planet, of course.) Though I knew the whole story within about 15 minutes, I was thoroughly entertained for all 180 minutes. Breathtaking visuals, compelling characters, this movie fills a gaping hole in the soul of Hollywood. Don't expect an Oscar-worthy script and you won't be disappointed at all. Sometimes the best stories are the least sophisticated.

The movie was made believable by the top drawer animation and the attention to details, especially the details inherent in moving bodies. The colors were rich and the artwork superb.
We were entranced the full duration of the movie and never found it overly long.

Avatar is awesome. As a computer artist, I was totally amazed at the CG effects, modelling and seamless integration with live action. Clearly, the technology has advanced by leaps and bounds and Cameron pulled out all the stops, hiring just about every CG animator in Hollywood and New Zealand to work on this film including WETA, ILM and Skywalker Ranch. The story was good guys vs. bad guys with some romance added to the mix. Very engaging and moves along at a good clip so you won't get bored at all. You really don't notice the time passing.

Me and my husband loved this movie and would definitely want to go and try and see it again! We also liked the ideas behind the story, it was pretty original all the ideas within the movie and the graphics were pretty Awesome! We would buy this movie when it comes out on DVD. This movie is of course along the lines of like a Sci-Fi/Fantasy movie, so if you don't like those type of movies, then I wouldn't recommend it.

I can see what people mean by a weak script via storyline, but it is the way that Cameron captures the story through proper character development as well as the thorough understanding of the Navi culture. This movie could have been done badly if the cultural and biological storytelling was not present. It was also nice to see that Cameron did not “Lucaside” the Navi culture like in the Phantom Menace. The timeliness of the Film also is important via the undertones of biodiversity and imperialism/industrialism. I truly feel that this will become a classic Sci Fi movie because it is so different than any recent Sci Fi movie.

Avatar was the most beautiful piece of cinematography that I have ever seen in my existence. The graphics were top of the line, the story will keep you on the edge of your seat for the entire three hours. It was like a vacation for your brain to roam free. I will probably go and see it multiple times. James Cameron is a film genius.

Please keep in mind how difficult it is to pull off a film like this, and the amount of work that it takes to not only master the CGI - but to blend live action and mix it all with spectacular back drops.
Yes, the film has a often-used, predictable, and at times, very "green" agenda...
However - It is a visually stunning, seamless CGI / live action film that has a decent if predictable story that will make you forget about your snacks.
Years ago, Roger Dean released a book called "Views" - a collection of his art and designs. In Avatar, there are scenes that jump straight out of Deans imagination.
There are also a few slack-jaw moments when you will look around to make sure no one saw you.
