Obviously, the SFX were wondrous to behold! I loved how the story flowed. The acting was great, in particular that of Zoe Saldana, who is even sexy as a blue anthropomorphic feline'ish/human'ish hybrid.

This movie is wonder to behold and worth EVERY penny Cameron spent on it. This technology will be changing movies from now on. The plot is standard--my son refers to it as "Pocahontas in Space" but it it Oh SO Pretty.
And we didn't even see it in 3D!
A couple of cautions on that vein---don't see this movie in 3D if you are prone to motion sickness. And for God's sake--do NOT take your young children to see it ---take the PG-13 rating seriously. AND--go to the bathroom before the movie starts. I will have to go see this again because of the parts I missed while people with children walked in front of me to go to the bathroom!

In spite of the politically correct; the Corporation is bad, the military is bad, we are destroying our world, we hate the earth, talking points, this was an exceptionally fun movie. Never once did I look at my watch in this longer movie. The characters, were unique and fun and the movie was well acted and directed and thoroughly enjoyable. You just have to get past the predictable Hollywood leftest drivel, put it behind you and you'll have a great time. Unfortunately, it will have an influence on the unaware and blank slates.

I haven't fell this way about a movie since I saw the first and third Matrix Movie. To say Avatar is revolutionary would be an understatement. Avatar is a dream come true. It's everything a Techy/Sci-fi/Action movie lover could want. It has a great story line and amazing special effects.It's a most see movie in the theater. Go see Avatar! You won't regret it.

If you love computer graphics, sci-fi, epic battles, and a little romance, and a great storyline, what's not to love about this great film.
I would not recommend for children under 13 due to provacative imagery. Seriously parents - your standards should be a little higher than Hollywood's.

The review title says it all. If you liked the political statements of Dances With Wolves, and enjoyed the mind blowing special effects and the Matrix you'll love this movie. I watched this in both Real3D and IMax and found that I enjoyed the non-3D version a bit better. I think that the 3D version was a bit distracting as I wanted to look around the movie at the little details and effects, but with 3D it didn't work so well. It looked like the 3D was designed to only have you focus on what the camera was focused on. Thus, looking around the screen at details made my eyes unnecessarily tired. Thus - my recommendation is watch the movie first in 3D to get the effects and story. Then, watch the movie in regular mode to see the details.

The plot of Avatar is nothing new. (Think Dances with Wolves mixed with Fern Gully but with aliens.) However, the action sequences are nothing short of amazing, and the visuals alone make a predictable, sub-par plot seem exciting and innovative. Overall, the movie is entertaining and will be a feast for your retinas. It's definitely worth seeing in theatres. (In fact, this is probably the only way to watch it and get the full effect. It won't be nearly as impressive when it comes out on DVD.)

Great movie, visual affects were outstanding. It was a long movie, but no part could really be cut out or shortened to make the entire story click. The only negative is the predictability in the story line about an hour in to it.

Visually this was the most stimulating 3-D movies I have every seen. The story line was great, focusing on a balance between good and evil. I balked at paying and extra $2 for the 3-D but it was worth every penny! Visual Treat!

The cinematography was truly exceptional and my hubby and I enjoyed it. Was it based on a true story? LOL I did like the ending and kinda surprise none of the reviews I read didn't mention some of the language issues. I don't cuss so any cussing grabs my attention and I've noticed lately PG-13 movies are getting more liberal with their language. Personally don't like to expose my grandkids to the abuse of using God's name in vain and wonder why directors even need to throw that in. Other lighter words I can tolerate but not that. However, the story line had it all and it was intriguing.

This is what a movie is all about. You have adventure and romance wrapped around a great story and actors that make it all believable. No, the story isn't anything new but the way it's told and presented makes you enjoy it even more. Take the whole family. It's worth it for the 3D version. It's done very well without all of the 3D childish stuff you are used to seeing.

I enjoyed this movie for what it is, ground breaking special effects. The story itself has been told so many times before; guy has his ideas and opinions. guy meets girl. girl changes his thoughts and opinions. guy turns his back on what he used to believe. Humans destroyed their own planet, now they are looking to colonize and pillage the resources of another (can you say "Independence Day"?). Out of the thousand or so humans on the planet, only 5 are good, righteous, and just, and the military is just plain bad for everyone. I suppose the story line could be best described as " Dances with Wolves" on another planet. I will probably buy the DVD because it is enjoyable, but it is not original.

Too much politics and too little sci-fi and story. If Cameron waited 20 years to make this, I'm wondering why. Couldn't he just have let his political views known back then? That's what this movie seemed like....a big political statement. It was hard to care about the characters and the story was not very interesting. Lord of the Rings for example was much more interesting and you could care about the characters more easily.

I saw the movie in 3D, which was quite a visual feast. I did get motion sick a few times--but I took off the glasses for a few minutes and was fine. While the plot was a noble one, it was very predictable. However, I so was busy enjoying the visuals that the predictable plot didn't bother me.

The movie is visually stunning. The story, however, is a (very) slight version of Last of the Mohicans. The message of the story is simple, resist the industrial complex to save the planet at all costs, and be one with nature. The only thing missing at the end was signing the Copenhagen treaty. I'm all for conservation and clean energy but I wonder what the carbon footprint on making this movie was. : ) This movie had so much more potential.

it doesn't take a visual effect specialist to tell you that this movie has taken special effect and virtual reality into the next level. the graphic locks your eyes from the beginning to end, every bit of details and subtleness is beautifully rendered to perfection.
k, enough about the graphics (although it really is unforgettable), the story is not very original nor it's complicated, however it flows, and has all the right components.
though the environment and character design is very well done, i think they should have gone a little crazier. the new found world is pretty much based on our own planet with an alien twist.
