Avatar starts out as an exciting Science Fiction tale. Sadly, as the movie plays out, it turns into a "Holier than thou" lecture on the evils of modern society and the American Military. It is apparent that Hollywood is determined to create as much propaganda as possible to sell the whole "Green / Global Warming Religion".

Yes, it was visually very cool. Although I'm not sure what was so "new" about the technology. CGI has always looked fake to me and I guess it will continue to be that way. My real problem with the movie was the plot... I liked it better the first time when it was called "Dances with Wolves". And the one thing that was an original plot point, the fact that the Avatars are biological not virtual, was completely glossed over. This movie had potential but got so caught up in the effects that the rest of the movie elements (interesting dialogue, character development) were laughable. And to anyone who disagrees... two words... Flex Vector

I saw the 2D version of this movie. It was simply fantastic. The storyline, acting and CGI were all top notch. If this doesn't win the Golden Globe award for Best Movie, they might as well do away with the Golden Globe awards all together!

took my whole family to see this, including 7 and 10 year old boys, and enjoyed every second of it! It completely imerses you in the world of Pandora. It is beautiful, sad, inspiring, exciting, all rolled into one film. I cannot wait to see it again, and will most certainly own this one at home too!

FANTASTIC! Would go see again & again, definately on my list to buy once on DVD.
Excellent special effects, just beautiful, action packed, and believe it or not a love story. This movie has a great story line that makes you stop and think about what we as human beings are doing to each other and the other living creatures and plant life we share our planet with because of our greed, predudices and beliefs. Some of it hits home.

This was one of the best films I have seen in awhile! The art and the realism is unbelievable! This exceeded above and beyond all my expectations. The actors did a phenomenal job! The 3D effects were perfect! You just find yourself in ah of how real everything is. The story was beautiful and at times you were on the edge of your seat. There was a love story but not the kind that makes you want to gag! This is a MUST SEE in the theaters and a MUST BUY when released on Blu-Ray!!!!

An Outstanding Movie. Although there is a strong sense of "Dances with Wolves" for the 21st century, the story line is excellent and the characters are absolutely believable and "real" There is no sense of CGI anywhere in the movie. I will no doubt see it more than once.

While the story may be predictable, the sheer visual impact of such and incredibly detailed alien world makes this movie a must see. The 3-D really does enhance the story telling and is not gimmicky at all and makes Pandora seem Ultra-High Definifition. The expression on the faces of the actors are rendered so realistically their emotions come across clearly.

Amazing. Best movie I've seen in a while. A little long but it was worth it. The movie was so alive with colors and action that it was hard not to be amazed. James Cameron, I'm glad you waited until now to do this film. It wouldn't have been the same if the graphics weren't as good.

This movie is like watching Fantasia for over 2 1/ 2 hours. The writing is so very poor and the plot is as shallow as a saturday morning cartoon. It is fascinating to look at (at first), but even the spectacle of the scenery looses it's charm after awhile, and the whole thing becomes a bit boring. You can easily guess the ending within 10 minutes of the movie's start. The characters are 2-dimensional, cookie-cutter stereotypes. The audience actually laughed out loud twice because the dialogue was so bad, not because it was supposed to be a funny part.

a must see. I saw it not in 3d, and the movie still held up, and I will return to see it in 3d. Loved, loved, loved this movie. Went with my husband, and thought it would be some sci fi thing I just saw for him, but loved it. Seriously, stop reading this and go get in line for tickets. This is this generation's "star wars"

A very entertaining movie and recommend to most anyone although there is some offensive language for younger viewers thus the PG-13 rating is appropriate. Hadn't seen a 3-D movie in a long time and enjoyed that experience. For my tastes, it was a little too long. It started a little slow, but once it got going it kept up my interest. If you are a conservative, then you have to get through the tree-hugging and thinly veiled anti-Bush references to pre-emptive strikes and 'shock and awe'.

James Cameron has something about displaying a woman's breasts and using unnecessay foul language. I would have given the movie 5 stars if he cleaned it up. The foul language stood out so much it took away for the movie sequence. If he would watch and learn and take away from the best, Spielberg and Lucas, he may get the fame he has been looking for since before Terminator, Titantic. He is not grabbing everyone's interest on this movie. Too bad.

A new addition to my top ten of all time. It must be experienced in true IMAX 3-D, not the cheap little multiplex IMin. I laughed, I cried, and I didn't want it to end. Afterwards I wanted to wait in line for another 2 hours to experience it again.

Big vision, check. Blossoming romance, check. Fabulous special effects, yep. Heroes and bad guys, yep. Everything I enjoyed about Titanic was here as well, just in a different setting with even more impressive CG.
There was more time spent on world-building than I cared for -- I just wanted the story -- but my friends thought that was the best part of the movie. We saw the non-3D version and there was plenty of scenery to enjoy there; it's hard to tell how much difference 3D would make.
I'd recommend this to friends as an enjoyable event, but nothing life-changing.

During the movie itself, I was extremely entertained by the occasional humor, the INCREDIBLE effects (literally the best I have ever seen), and the lovely plot. But what really fascinated me was all of the different themes I took from it: was this a statement about environmentalism? Imperialism? 9/11? Iraq? So many ideas, that either a 10 year old looking for a cool love story or a 50 year old looking for a thought-provoking movie would love it just as much as the next person in his row. Go see it!!
