Avatar has, without question, the best special effects of any movie ever. Pandora seems like a real (but amazing) world and the Navi seem like real people. The movie is exciting and quick moving. My main complaint is that the story itself is very basic and predictable. Also, the marine sergeant in charge of the bad guys (humans) was much too one dimensional / cartoonlike. Still, the movie is worth seeing.

Avatar has incredible visual effects and while the storyline is not overly deep, we enjoyed the character interactions. Difficult to determine what is real and what is not...definitely a must see!!

James Cameron's "Avatar" is a modern day "Dances With Wolves" with a Sci-Fi twist. And that's not a put down. It is really, really GOOD!
From begining to end I was thoroughly entertained by the story, facinating characters, and all out action!
Cameron is a classic Hollywood storyteller. He brillantly crafted a film that speaks to audiences on a number of levels. And there is great social and spiritual commentary in this movie.
If you enjoyed "Titanic" you will find his latest picture just as epic and spectacular!

This was my first IMAX 3D movie and it was one of the best I have ever seen!! The effects were amazing! I felt like I was a part of the movie the whole time. I would go see it again and again.

Everything you've heard about how visually stunning this movie is, is totally true. You really will be blown away by the look of 'Avatar,' and the novelty of the special effects and the motion-capture characters doesn't really wear off even after 2-and-a-half hours. Having said that, I felt like (and I've heard other people say pretty much the exact same thing) I was watching a futuristic, sci-fi/fantasty, extraterrestrial version of 'Dances With Wolves.'

Even though this movie is 2hrs. and 40 minutes it went by fast. It has all the key elements of a good movie; action, adventure, romance, suspense, and a lot of imagination. Great movie! Must see! I usually don't see a movie more than once but I'm considering seeing this one at an Imax.

Wow! Effects are great! Storyline is very easy to follow-it's kinda like Cowboys and Indians-but very well done. I would suggest kids under 8 stay home as there is alot of animals and blue people and regular people that die. I don't believe I heard that much swearing although it was hard to hear above all the idiot people talking. >.<

I don't consider this a kids movie. I think the PG13 rating is misleading. There was the foul language that could have been left out and there was a "mating" scene that I thought was pushing it, knowing little kids would be drawn to see this movie. The special affects were awesome, wish we had gone to the 3D showing. I thought they could have done better with the backdrop instead of the evil imperialist corporation destroying Mother Earth for profit. That one is getting old.

Have I seen this plot several times before or is it just my imagination? No! The plot was all to familiar! Obviously the majority of the budget was spent on special effects, which are amazing to say the least. But, I would find it very difficult to recommend this film to any "thinking" adult who expects a creative storyline as well as being dazzled by the F/X department.

Overall movie was pretty good,story line was somewhat predictable as movie continued on. Aliitle disapponted in the editing as there seemed to be a longer blank screen between "scenes",sort of like expecting a "commercial"break. Ejoyed the "slang" terms used from the military type characters.

My seven year old son and I really enjoyed this movie. Obviously, the effects were incredible. The design of the distant planet and its inhabitants, the Navi was stunning. I would probably have given this film 5 stars, had I not found the plot to be a little too familiar. Never the less, a fun holiday movie.

The money spent on this movie was worth every dollar. This is a movie I will watch over and over and make a part of my collection. More than the special effects is the thought that went into the whole story and getting the message across that we really and truly are all from the same energy regardless if it is on mythical Pandora or here on Mother Earth. It is a good lesson for all those mindless fools who value money over life.

The 3D version of Avatar was out of this world! Now Avatar isn't as ground breaking for its time as lets say Titanic was when it came out.The story line isn't even close.What you do get with Avatar is the most visually stunning movie to date. The action is non stop and the special effects are second to none. I personaly love the message this movie is sending(getting connected with mother)but not sure the masses will like it as much. Like Titanic this is also an epic love story and is easy to get into. So grab your popcorn and soda(lots of it......almost 3 hour long) and get ready for a heck of a ride.........Avatar delivers!!!

This was a most entertaining experience which will be given lots of air time during conversations over the next few weeks and months. While the "adult" language doesn't really add (or detract) in the early scenes (as pointed out by the youngsters whom I took with me), it is noteworthy that Cameron waited fourteen years to introduce this movie concept, since the technology included in the movie is believable. The 3D is "just right" - you are included in the visual context without being overwhelmed. This will be a standard against which other offerings are measured.

Disney meets Dances with Wolves, the natives win, and the crippled duckling becomes a native prince. The film is nonsensical. They travel at translight speeds but fight with knives. The natives are telepathically connected and yet are a warrior culture. Ouch! The contradictions go on and on. This movie was written by thirteen year olds for thirteen year olds. If you want to indulge your "inner teenager" go for it. The premise is that corporations are the source of all evil and that Greenpeace activists are the only hope for the future. Of course, the movie itself is the product of the technology that it attacks. And people wonder why we are so unable to formulate a reasonable environmental/industrial policy.

Visually stunning! I enjoyed the story. There were certainly some nail-biting moments. Visually, nothing compares. One of the best movies I've ever seen. I highly recommend this movie to anyone. It's good fun. You'll be blown away by the imagery.

Amazing graphics, colors, and scenery aside, this movie transported me into the past at the same time it was telling the story of our present. The "savage" Na'vi had to be displaced or murdered to get to the unobtainable under their living tree. Remember the white man slaughtering the "savage" Red Skins to steal their land and buffalo. The movie brought me into the present situation in the wars America is currently fighting. The reason for the wars is not "terrorism," it's for oil rights, etc, and because certain groups of Americans look at those countries and their inhabitants as "lower class" human beings. Seems like there is always a government backing a large corporation in this type of scenario - movie fiction and/or real life.
