Movie had a little bit of everything for everybody. Sci-fi, check. Military, check. Fantasy, check. Romance, check. I thought it was good, my wife loved it. She even had to pull out a tissue at the end. 3D was very effective.

The colors of the forest, creatures, aliens were all outstanding, worth the price of admission, the story was a bit predictable but it did not matter, we were on the edge of our seats the whole time. The movie went very quick for almost a 3 hour movie.

This movie had stunning special effects and a great message. As a big fan of sci fi I was delighted to see many new effects and story devices. While the moral of the story is pretty classic, the manner in which it is presented is very unique. The storyline is appropriate for all ages but the level of violence is probably too much for young children. My 14 year old loved it but I wouldn't let a child under 10 watch it. The visuals in this movie will blow you away, I wish I had seen it in 3-D, maybe I'll go back and see it again!

Cameron had outdone himself. This is an incredibly beautiful work. Brilliant cinemaphotography, stunning special effects and manages to maintain a sympathetic personal perspective at the same time. Who would have thought that we could be induced to identify with blue, ten feet tall creatures with tails? I will be astounded if it does not garner a Best Picture Oscar. Don't miss it! And make sure you see it in 3D!

This movie was a treat to see in the theater! If you aren't into fantasy/sci fi, not sure if it would be your thing, unless you are only going for special effects. It's a typical "good v. evil" story for the modern age. Yes we humans are baaad, cuz we don't appreciate nature and life! You ok with that assumption, then you will be fine with this movie. Lots of violence, typical of any fantasy warrior clash, but oh so beautifully done!
If you want a treat, see it in a regular screen, then go back second time to a 3D, then the third time go to IMAX 3D. Each step up adds to the amazement of the film, and another level to appreciate it on.
Trust me, you will see it twice! Everyone isn't commenting on the visual imagery for nothing.

Great effects, overall enjoyable adventure -- but story generally predictable and some really disappointing aspects. Lots of obvious borrowing from other films and stories -- too much "smack-you-in-the-face" with the nasty capitalism at the expense of the environment and overplaying of the bad military "out of control" enforcer...

I don't recall ever seeing such a seamless blending of animation and real life. It was phenomenal. The score, the "sets" were breathtaking....and it was simply a fun action/adventure movie. I loved it!

Avatar was Dances with Wolves on an alien world. James Cameron once again displays an absolute mastery of the camera. The cast was superb and their acting spot on. The movie was a visual masterpiece.
Unfortunately, it was unbalanced - all men, save Jakesully, were bad or stupid. Even Grace, could not learn because her head was too full. Even a single line that said people as a whole would disapprove of what the Corporation was doing to mine 'unobtainium' was bad, would have improved the overall effect. This same message worked for Dances with Wolves because it was, unfortunately, history. Humans are not bad at their core, nor stupid, nor soul-less.
We should take better care of Mother Earth, but that doesn't mean we are bad.

I loved - absolutely LOVED the CG effort. The plot was very good also, but I'd rate that a 4 out of 5 stars. The flying sequences were drop dead georgeous. You could, however, see a 'message' regarding the environment etc. The trees looked like the Amazon or somewhere in Africa. But I suppose you had to have something the audience identified with. The connection the aliens had with the world around them was an excellent idea. All in all, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it gets best picture.

I hope this wins Best Picture at the Academy Awards. No movie is perfect, but the trouble is I have very little interest in bothering to point out the imperfections of this amazing film, because as a whole it was the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. I plan to go see it again today (I saw it yesterday). There were a few cliches I could have lived without, and few other cliches that I was happy to ignore. But overall, it was also a riveting story line, with interesting characters who were easy to sympathize with and care about.
Anyone who misses seeing this movie on the big screen, in 3-D, is really missing out. I'm looking forward to seeing the sequels.

The movie is gorgeous in its visuals and design. It is simply unfortunate that the acting and story are not more complimentary to the incredible visuals. I did not see it in 3-D, and it was still amazing to watch.

Excellent movie experience. Not only were the effects incredible the storyline was well thought out. Movie had a beginning, middle and an end. There was something for every audience...drama, action, romance and even a personal moral message from the director. Highly recommended.

The overall soundtrack was so disappointing, The most anticipated of course was the Leona Lewis song but it didn't play 'till the very very end when almost everyone is already gone, what a waste! It couldve been place a little bit earlier.
The graphics was spectular, I didn't watch the 3d version but the effect and definitely the whole picture of a tropical rain forest were stunning, especially the wildlives. Could win best picture Oscar.
I thought the bad guys were portayed to an extreme.

This was a great movie. The graphics, action, and flow was always spot on. It allowed us to be totally drawn into the story. The story had a plot and sub-plots that allowed those of us that like that to relate on a deeper level with the issues and it was also written so that you could just be entertained. Really wonderful and our whole extended family will be getting the Blueray DVD when its available.

From the beginning of the movie to the end of the movie, I just could not take my eyes off of the screen because of how beautiful the special effects were. The Avatar people were so amazing and incredible in every single way. I loved this movie and feel that both men and women will absolutely love it. I want to see this movie again and again! You will be missing out if you do not see this movie as soon as possible! I CAN NOT WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT ON DVD!

A bit long, special effects are amazing. The writer and/or director makes several political statements. Environmental, greed, war, are all points driven home. I think the two most ironic points of view by the writer/director are the greed and environmental criticisms. You can not make a $200M movie that earns, by the end of its run, close to $1B, without upsetting the environment, and the hypocrisy of the greed message is ridiculous. I would have given five stars if not for the political overtones.

Avatar sets new high marks for animation and seamless integration with real footage. It is very intense form the very beginning to the last few minutes. While there are characters that lack development, like the evil sargent, the other characters seem rather engaging. The battle scenes are violent and not for children, but are very well done. You MUST see this film in 3D! And remember to breath while watching, I was out of breath at the end. This is a must see film - it is an instant classic. Kudos to the whole crew!

James Cameron does it again with this awesome combination of animation and reality. The special effects and colors of the scenery are unsurpassed. A true 10 in every aspect. Saw it in normal mode and got a little vertigo as it was. Could not imagine how awesome it would be in 3D.

OK... I know I'm going against the grain here and there will be people who will want my head on a platter for saying one bad thing about this movie but the truth is... IT WAS PREDICTABLE.
C'mon... the plot was completely formulaic and secondary to the effects. I knew what was going to happen around every turn because I have seen this plot, and its twists, a million times in other movies. I have played video games with more original plots. Honestly, I don't know why I expected anything more out of "Mr Titanic". It's a shame. This could have been a truly awesome movie. Instead, it's just a good one.

Great effects are the hallmark of this film. The story is good, yet becomes predictable in the first 45 minutes- which is not good as the film clocks in at more than 3 hours. Campy dialogue and forced delivery make some scenes unbearable (there was laughter from the audience). Having said that (A CYE reference), the film brings an interesting message about colonisation, assimilation and the environment. Read in to it if you want, or don't.
Visually spectacular, Cameron does a great job of creating Pandora. Just be ready- there are a lot of blue people....
