Took my 15 yrd old and 9 yr old grand children to see Avatar and we were all mesmerized from the start. James Cameron has another hit under his belt.

I'm surprised that more people don't think Avatar missed the mark. Yes, Pandora with its inhabitants, is a visually creative, stunningly beautiful world but that's where the enjoyment stopped for me. Cameron had an opportunity to give us better ways to solve conflicts without violence, but the movie ended the same way every other one does - with a 45 minute bloody, unrealistic, shot-em-up battle. I was so bored and frustrated.
The bio-chemical relationship they mentioned briefly between all living things was a much more interesting plot line to explore than how the two can battle each other to the death.
I did not see Avatar in 3D, which if I had, might have taken my attention off the plot .

Excellent Movie...However, thestory line was predictable. It was "Dances with Wolves goes to Pandora"......but, an excellent movie. The movie was long, but it did not seem long...until I stood up...OUCH!! Well worth every dollar it took to make this movie and every dollar I spent to see it.

Avatar highlights the issue of human greed being a greater motivator to those with too much power than choosing to live with moral conscious and sound reason. With two hours and forty minutes for run time, one can become very engrossed in the mystical land of Pandora and develop a rich appreciation for the well developed characters in this film. There is a lovely romance that presents itself during the story but ultimately the action and gorgeous cinematic settings really won my vote.

Movie was excellent, was well written, and well played. Could not watch 3D version eyesight problem on my part. But Movie was very good wife and daughter both loved it also. special effects were terrific.

I'm still speechless. The story may be unoriginal, but thats not the point. It's the message of life, how to live it and finding yourself. The world this movie brought me in, hasn't been this fun since 2003's Peter Pan. Cameron's imagination is a masterpiece all on its own.

The story was very unoriginal, the characters were extremely cliched, everything that occurs can easily be predicted well ahead of time, the dialogue was often cringe-worthy; the score, the pacing, pretty much everything in this movie was totally paint by numbers. Nothing surprising or unique about it.
It did, however, look very nice. So if you are looking for a good looking blockbuster, this is your movie. Just don't expect any emotional or intellectual payoff whatsoever.

Pochahontas meets blue people. Basically some of the storyline seems vaguely derived from the legend of Pochahontas, but much more exciting, more fascinating, more effective. Not a bad thing at all, in fact, a rather accurate insight into human cruelty and the rise above it. It's definitely a movie that will keep you on the edge of ur seat, the side of ur seat, standing on ur seat.. ^^ GO WATCH IT! and then think about compassion.

Since this flick is up for Best Picture, it's obviously worth a look. I saw this in 3D, the first movie I had experienced this way. To me, the 3D experience was the only thing that kept me interested in the film. Plot line is marginal, but special effects are what this movie rock. This is a visual feast, but for me substance was woefully lacking.

The actual movie is good, the acting is compelling and we've all seen the plot before.
But seeing this movie in 3D is an event that I compare to a 2 hr and 40 minute amusment park ride. If this movie does nothing else, it will change movies as we know them in the future.

A 5 minute plot spread over 2 hrs 40 minutes. The 3D lead was better than the movie. The flowers were pretty the battle scenes were boring. The villian was bad but the good guys were tedious.

I don't hate Avatar, only what it's become. All of America going doe-eyed like they haven't seen Dances With Wolves, Pocahontas, or any cowboys and indians tale. Again, I like the film. I see the gorgeous vistas that have painstakingly been brought to life, the numerous creatures and plants, and the elegant Na'vi themselves. But when everyone can't stop talking about how inspired they were, I can't stop talking about how inspired Cameron was. The plot's similarities, the Na'vi are allusions to Native Americans, and he even used a pop singer again. Sorry Avatar, but my Film of the Year goes to another sci-fi alien fable about imperialism, race issues, and main characters going rogue: District 9.

This movie was great - I saw it in 3-D. I thought the acting was good, story line was good. I would recommend the money to go and see it on the bg screen. Not sure how good you'll like it on DVD. Some movies are made to see at the theater and this is one of them!!

I wasn't a fan even after my friends & family had all said it was a great film, until my husband & I & 2 friends went & saw it at the Imax theaters in Thousand Oaks. From the very beginning I was impressed & throught the movie my friend & I found ourselves on the edge of our seats.. I will go & see it atleste 1 more time in the Imax & owna copy for myself..

I took my children ages 12, 11 & 9 to see Avatar on Saturday. We saw it in 3-D IMAX and it was great! I wasn't sure if this was my type of movie, so I was pleasantly suprised. There is only one "sex" scene, but it was very children friendly. I will warn parents that the "Avatar"s buttocks are exposed in the movie, but they are blue and did not offend my family.

I agree with the preceding reviewers, the movie was extraordinary. I highly recommend this movie for the special effects, colors, acting, experience. However, my IMAX movie theater seemed like a regular screen with 3D (not worth the extra $). The 3D glasses that were given out at the start of my movie, were not in a sealed package, I heard in other movies they are. Beware, if they're asking back for them at the end of the movie they're probably not cleaning them for the next show.

Beautiful, Breathtaking colors. My advice is buy a small soda because when this thing starts you will not want a restroom break until it ends. Wonderful spiritual underlying message if you are open to see it.

I am not a sci-fi film watcher and was extremely hesitant about wasting my time on this "gamer movie" as I had classified it but was dragged to see it by my significant other. I was pleasantly surprised. The visual effects in this movie are mind blowing. I don't know what it would look like in a regular theater, but it was amazing in 3D and beautiful in IMAX, where we saw it a second time. I have become an Avatar cheerleader, encouraging others who wouldn't normally see this type of movie to go see it because I know it will be as breathtaking for others as it was for me. A true masterpiece. This movie has set the bar extremely high for all future films. Absolutely amazing.
