There were some jumps in story flow and it was very predictable. It could have been edited down a bit, but visually stunning and pretty entertaining. Not on the level of Star Wars for Epics.

This is a thinly veiled, shallow movie about the conquest of undeveloped lands for the purpose of taking natural resources. The special effects are good, but the character development and story line are aimed at an eleven-year-old audience. It was cute, but far too long. If you remember Ferngully, a low budget cartoon movie from ? the early 1990's? you'll see far more similarities than differences. Basically this is Ferngully with a big budget.

I wish there were a way to describe how beautiful their world is. I want to live there. And I'm so sorry that the humans/Americans have proven ourselves to be the way they are depicted in this movie. It is gorgeous, horrible and wonderful - all at the same time. AMAZING!!!

Visuals. WOW, story is a futuristic "Dancing With Wolves" with an overriding enviornmental hammer; Unobtanium, come on! There is also not much creativity in inventing vocabulary, "Pandora" and "Avatar" allreay have been used for other purposes. This movie is a must see for the imagitative evniornment, flora and fuana, luminencence and , ideas of interconnection of every element of the envoirnment . The story has approprated elements from more movies that can be listed. But then again those amazing visuals will set the bar for all future science fiction, futuristic movies for years to come.

Outstanding CG work. Visuals were amazing, really makes you believe that there is a Pandora.
Story line is a bit predictable, think old western movie. Indians beat up by the US Calvary. Although he portrays the military as mercenaries they are refered to as Marines many times. Why does every director from Hollywood think he needs to make a political statement in their work.
Forgetting all that that this is a great flick.

This movie was visually engaging and a landmark for cinematogophery to aspire to. The story was engaging. I even got a little misty eyed when one of the characters died. The only problem I had with it is why does Hollywood assume we we wil only F*** something up if we visit or capitalize on a resource. All most all of us are employed but a large corporation, yet somehow we all assume the pursuit of monetary gain will corrupt us and anything we touch. I guess it makes an easy target. I'd like to see a movie just once about how we might bring peace to a conflict..It would still have the requiste action but be a little more positve about the human condition.

The storyline was predictable and some the acting extremely shallow, but WOW! what a movie. Cameron does a great job portraying non-organized relion / hunter-gatherer cultures living in complete harmony with their environment. (Makes me jealous.) I'm pretty sure he robbed just about every movie and storyline out there for the story and effects, but who cares - it was masterfully done. A definite see more than once.

No way in heck will I ever go to this theater again. Despite having tickets, we did not see the movie. They oversold reserve seating to make an extra 2 bucks at the expense of regular customers. Poor, poor management

One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. It is very long, but didn't feel that way until I got up to leave. I you don't want to or can't sit for long periods of time then this isn't the movie for you. The plot was solid and easy to follow. By the end I was wishing that I could have the same opurtunity Jake had. Definity worth the almost three hours of sitting!

This movie was SUPER FUN to watch, VERY ENTERTAINING, FRESH MEAT (as far as graphics go), my eye was bouncing all over the screen slowly taking in and enjoying the CG art, truly I was IN Pandora (the planet in which the story takes place). Gotta admit the story was predictable, but at the same time gratifying. Felt like coming out of a fancy and delicious restaurant, i was satisfied, unlike a similar 2009 film out of which i rolled out the door completely STUFFED, won't say the name but it start with trans and ends with formers 2

MUST BE SEEN IN 3D; I have seen it in regular 2D and 3D. The effectiveness of the CGI overshadows the story. And that is a good thing. I enjoyed the idea of a global neural network with a conjoined consciousness. (I like the idea of being aware of the world around us and living in harmony with it). The Boy Meets Girl and the Imperialists vs. the Indiginous population storylines has been overdone. The "too obvious" references to "Pre-emptive Strike" and a "Shock and Awe" campaign were a little heavy handed. Overall it is one of my highlights for 2009 and is definitely in my top 5 for the year. Also, I place it is in my top 20 favorites of all time.

Avatar is an entertaining movie with unbelievable special effects. The story set up is much like "Dances with Wolves", but thats okay. The characters are a bit sterotypical, but you can't help but root for the good guys and hate the bad guys!

Amazing special effects, a story that will tug on the heart strings, a good mix of story telling and action. My only suggestion would be for James Cameron to spend the extra 20 minutes, make it a 3 hour film and explain better some of the human characters, and why they chose to come to this planet. Other than that an amazing film.

this movie sucks, dont listen to the majority of the reviews because the critics obviously have to have some kind of mental problems. This is just like ALL THE OTHER sci-fi alien supernatural movies that have ALL SUCKED. It is just incredibly unreal and unrealistic and not to mention boring. And to all who are going crazy over the special effects and the 3D, GROW UP!!!!!! Learn not to be amazed by such simple things like effects and try to acquire a good taste in movies like a decent action movie or a comedy or anything without that alien superpower nonsense.
