Have been spoiled by Netflix, but was encouraged to see this movie by our 23-year-old son. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Although the theme was already done in Dances with Wolves, it was still worth the money to see it in 3D.

Best movie of the Decade? Maybe most expensive, definitely not “best”. Iron Man, Dark Knight, Up... there’s 500 movies on the list ahead of Avatar.
It probably sounded great pitched; futuristic Pocohontas, with environmental and spiritually conscious undertones, but Avatar turned out fair to midland. Special fx that weren't so blow away. Horrible stereotypes. Action packed but a far cry from the brilliance of Terminator, T2, and Cameron himself.
Due to complaints about the color and blurring in 3D, I saw it in 2D… the movie still lacked. I want to feel the passion of the creative individuals behind the movie being made, rather than feel a movie studio's calculated commercial formula. Avatar is most assuredly the latter.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

A little long, but very entertaining movie about man's struggle to balance corporate/country power and greed while respecting our natural resources and cultures of other countries. 3D version of the movie was excellent, but this story would be successful in any venue.

This is one of the best movies I've seen in sometime. Everything about it, I just can't say enought good about it. I called my grown kids when I got home and told them they had to go and see it the first chance they get. I've also told a lot of my friends the same thing.

this is a perfect analogy of what the settlers did to the Indians, or what the United States is currently doing to the tribal civilisation of Afghanistan. It is also a beautiful example of energy-hungry machines against energy-producing nature. In the movie, the outcome is good, but we have yet to see how the outcome of our reality-based situations will be.

Just am amazing movie.. While the special effects are truly amazing, It is a wonderful story., My Family enjoyed it so much and they said they want to purchase it when it come out on DVD.
It will be one of our favorite movies .one that we willl be adding to our collection .
And there is so much to see on the screen that you probably have to go watch again just to capture everything.
I most definitely will recomend it ! A must see!!!!

I had no pre-concieved ideas about this movie. I didn't just see the Movie, I was in it. I felt like I was in the Mountains, and climbing the trees, and touching the beautiful flowers, and flying with the animals...I was there. It was what I would call a Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Rain Forrest/War/Love Story Movie. I was taken there with Jake(the Vietnam Veteran/Avatar), I lived and hurt and loved with Jake, I was enthralled with the movie, the scenery, the love story(which was a miner part) and the special effects, and the Rain Forrest. This is a MUST See!

American Indian space aliens attacked by paper thin villains. A 25 year old Marine turned 14 year-old numbskull alien falls in love with native alien that inspite of having genitalia attached to her neck wears loin cloth and kisses with her mouth.
Villains show no motivation except to quote Bush like pre-emptive war mantra, and capitalist profits first. While green blue aliens care about the planet and spirituality but resort to killing to defend their tree.
Good lord $400 million for this tripe, apparently after the effects budget, nothing was left for an actual plot.
See it on the big screen or forget it.

If you've ever seen Disney's "Pocahontas", then you know the story line of Avatar. The English are now represented by all humans, and the Indians are represented by Na'vi (indigenous people). Off course, the "evil", profit driven humans have come to the Na'vis' planet 150 years into the future to steal natural resources leaving a wake of mindless destruction in their path. To add insult to injury it appears the humans have completely trashed Earth. If you can get past the attempt to shame you into being "green", then the movie offers plenty of stunning visual effects and above average acting - Sigourney Weaver just keeps on getting better!

It's quite the noble savage vs. evil military/industrial complex fantasy. Dances with Aliens. Tarzan In Space. But that it's a classic epic story doesn't make it a weak story. The visual images are magnificent. I totally want to be an Avatar. And i want to go back to see it again in 3D. The bodies are gorgeous. Blue Zulus. I'm now going to go make kewl headbands with bones in nosebridge. And then i'll go to the gym. I've got to get down to -5% body fat. Go see this movie!!!

Just am amazing movie. A lot has been said about the special effects. While the special effects are truly amazing, it is how they blend into the storyline that is remarkable. It is a wonderful story, told in a wonderful way, with wonderful effects and an amazing amount of imagination and passion. It will be hard for anyone to not come out feeling that Avatar has redefined movie making.
I can't wait to to own it.

I wasn't totally thrilled about going to see this movie, but I was positively thrilled that I did. Avatar is probably one of the best and most powerful movies I have ever seen, and I am a movie buff. I can't imagine anyone seeing this movie and not being moved by it.

I think every person I have spoken with about their opinion of this movie has prefixed it with, "I wasn't sure I was going to like it." then did nothing but rave about how great it was. I too doubted that I was going to be blown away by this film, I have found that when my expectations are high I am most often disappointed. This movie was the exception. The film did have a strong storyline and the characters were believable. The artwork in this film is extraordinary and well worth seeing on a big screen. Go see this film, you will not be disappointed.

This was a great movie, I loved the new look for an alien being, and how the American scientists were able to connect with them. The special effects including their plants, animals and there way of life touched my heart. I didn't notice the length, and left wanting to watch more. The only minus is the realization of what man (USA) will do to acquire what it wants. It reminded me of the American Indians, except in this movie ...guess you'll have to go see it.

Avatar takes movie making to a new land. It is not just a series of spectacular effects. It is immersive.
The story is rather predictable. So was the story of the original Star Wars. But like that movie, it is the telling of the story through a new cinematic language that makes it great. After all, there are only about a dozen stories in all of human culture. Only in the telling is there art. And there is some reat art in Avatar. You are subsumed in the effects and the cinematography.
This is the first movie since the year 2000 that is of the next century rather than the last.

It was hard to really judge this movie. That is because we were in the 1st row looking up at a 70 by 30 foot ultra screen. I did like it. Found it to be over the top in the last half hour. From our position I'm sure we lost a great deal of the visual effects.

The effects are amazingly convincing, and with the 3D experience you truly plunge into an alternate reality. The only weak point was the strong military influence and the initial stereotypical shallowness of the protagonist: a true empty-headed stubborn commando who only matures through true love, maintaining his original character all the while.

See it in real IMAX! I saw this film at the IMAX theater in AMC empire 25 and the screen wasn't very big. If you are waiting to see in IMAX and you live in nyc I would suggest seeing it at the IMAX in Lincoln Sq., it's soooo much bigger and better. I was surprised that they could even call the screen at AMC empire 25 an IMAX screen. Movie is dazzling though!

Took our 5 year old, my hubby and I were in the front row due to a packed house which can be annoying after a while , but the show captivated us , we never realized the length or our seats. The graphics were amazing, the story was so gripping and sweet yet very intense. There were tears of joy and pain, we LOVED this movie like no other. You must see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you like Sci-Fi you will love this movie! The IMAX 3D movie experience was one of the best I have ever had! I plan on seeing this again even though I have to travel 1.5 hrs to the nearest IMAX theater.
