I have to admit that I was not too keen on seeing this movie as even the trailers didn't make it seem too appealing. I will also admit that the movie was better than I expected it to be, but was simply too long as are most James Cameron films. Graphics are great, musical score was also great, and love the sense of tribal community. Not at all what we're used to seeing from traditional major studio film. Be prepared for a serious case of booty-itus at the conclusion of this film at two hours and forty minutes.

The special effects and visuals were great, I thought the first 45 minutes or so of the story was great as well, where he created something new we had never seen before, the rest of the thing, good, story told, before, and even if an old story could have been done a little better.
But definitely worth seeing at the theater, I guess if Transformers II was the top movie this year this is definitily a cut or two or three above that.

While the story of humans taking over land from ones they label as "savages" is not new, it is a lesson that needs to be told. Case in point - the horrible treatment of the American Indians after Europeans "discovered" America.
The special effects are captivating. The movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes long, but didn't seem to drag any time.

The movie itself, for entertainment value gets 5 stars. The effects were amazing and you felt like you were in the movie. However, the movie is a political message conduit for James Cameron. It is filled with messages that range from how the Native Americans were treated, to mans destruction of the planet for natural resources.

WOOOWWW! This is not just a movie, this is an experience. I don't usually like this type of movie, but the Avatars are so real, by the end of the movie you feel like they're alive. I would love to live on Pandora! The scenery is so awesome, you just get lost in it - which is a sign of a great movie. Thank you James Cameron, for a truly unimaginable experience!

The politically correct undertones of this film made me sick. They are none too subtle and run from the evil white man slaughtering the American Indians without provocation to the US invading Iraq only for it’s oil to the “fact” that humans are frying their home planet. I vehemently resent that the Marine Corps is portrayed as a bunch of blood thirsty, war mongering idiots. If you’re a lefty you’ll love this film. For me, its one star is earned only for the over-the-top special effects and super sensual creatures.

Great Sci-fi, and special effects!! Not much more. James Cameron stated that he had this movie designed more than 20 yrs ago...He either built all of his other movies off of this one or stole bits and pieces of the others for this one, and just added great special effects. Brilliant colors, lots of fiber optic and UV/Black lighting, but get past the visual and what do you have....A Titanic love story....And I swear they used the same orchestra and music from the "Titanic" in this movie!

I went into Avatar not having a clue what it was about but my husband really wanted me to see it (he already saw it.) The movie was freaking awesome! I've never seen anything like it! Not only was the computer animation phenomonal, but the actual storyline is outstanding. I was pleasantly surprised because normally I don't like fantasy-type movies. I definitely recommend this movie and would LOVE to see it again!

imagine being immersed into the very movie you are watching. this wasnt a movie but an experience of a lifetime. at times i found myself not watching the main charcters but gazing around at the scenery.the animals,characters,and every plant and bug were totally amazing. this movie was the best ive seen...ever. take your family,friends,girlfriends and anyone you care about to see this movie! SO DISAPPOINTED in AVATAR! It's just a good guys vs bad guys, shoot-em-up WAR movie . . with TONS of violence/killing, and in the end, winners and losers - the good ol' American way - just with special effects, interesting visuals and a few twists. When is our culture going to start ingraining the concept of caring, cooperation and peaceful resolution of problems?????? And another thing, the "spiritually correct aliens" were ultra-tall, uber-thin and overly sexualized - another perpetuation of the unfortunate concept of beauty in our culture!

Wow--shades of many themes and concepts delivered as an effective and provacative hybrid. More complex than the original Dune novel, shades of the story Death World, resonating with current social and environmental concerns and drawing on the cultural concepts of orginal peoples! All possible and effective because of the cutting egde technology. Even impressive in non-3D (my eyes don't allow 3-D perception). See it and think.

This was the most spectacular action film I've ever seen. The 3D effects were insane. The best 3D movie I've been to by far (about 6 of them).
Even NPR was hyping this up and it's why I saw it. One thing they mentioned is that they don't call it motion capture anymore, it's motion performance, and I agree. The motion acting was incredible, it made the Na'Vi feel like real people.
The special effects were so well done, all the beasts on planet Pandora are a marvel to behold. The human race is powerful with massive machines of war.
I wan't to see this again for sure.

Cool graphics, but we get that already - everybody does it. Once we figured out (early on) that this was little more than standard Hollywood ultra-liberal preachiness wrapped up in pretty pixels it became highly predictable and decidedly disappointing - a condescending and lousy movie experience. Cameron's catharsis was full of white liberal guilt (a "Dances With Wolves" re-make so soon?), angst, enviro-worship, business hatred, military loathing, and Bush-bating...everything you'd expect to find in the modern movie-maker's toolkit. The movie-making was okay, but the story-telling - the real heart of a movie - was little more than a fax of DNC talking points. So much money spent, and so little originality. What a waste.

This movie was so amazing I wanted to see it again the very next day and trust me... that is not me!!! Of course the Imax experience is always amazing but the movie itself was a Blockbuster hit in my opinion as well as my 12 year old daughter!!! Dont pass on this one and try and see it in 3d or IMax...Its got so much to it!!!! Its also a love story...cant say enough...go go go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then go again!!!!

I brought my kids there (18 and 7) on Christmas day. The movie entertained us all. Some parts were a bit tense for my 7yo but he would bury his head one minute and be rooting the next. He wants to buy the movie when its released. Its a movie, even I, would see again.

This was a beautiful movie. Unfortunately i did not see the 3D version. I could have done without the thinly veiled political comments. However, even without the 3D it was an absolute feast for the eyes. More imptortantly the characters and their development was not overshadowed by the incredible graphics. I literally forgot that much of the movie was CGI.I will see it again and recommend others to do the same,

Take the complete plot line of Pocahontas (seriously) and mix in the story of a stranger joining the clan (ala Tarzan) including the good guy vs bad guy battle in the end and then apply the best F/X in a movie to date. Runs a little long, but the F/X keep you in touch. You will be saying that you have seen this movie before, but not with such flash - go for the 3D version to keep from getting bored with the storyline.

Went to see the non 3-D version which was quite stunning visually. There is so much to take in that I am glad that I saw this version first as I may choose to go see it again in the IMAX 3D version so that I can absorb more visual details.
Definitely a movie to see on the big screen in any of its versions.
