The visual effects were amazing and the story line kept me intrigued. If I had any complaints, it would be the vulgar language. Swearing can have a place in cinema if used for effect, but to inject words that do nothing but make the character appear to be crude and offensive does not need to be added.

It has been a long time since I have enjoyed a movie so much. The storyline, the visuals, the action, and the actors were all so well suited. Weaver turned on that hard-biting, tender charm which she displayed in Gorillas in the Mist, the corporate head, played by Giovani Ribisi, was such a sleaze-ball, with just a milimeter of courage underneath. All the characters, from the lead, to the the support were well defined and enjoyable. Thank you Mr. Cameron for painting a picture which I may go see again. People, go see this movie in 3D or Wide screen, I guarantee you will enjoy.

This is a movie that I have recommended to everyone. Even younger children would enjoy the story and the scenery. We accidentally saw it in the non-3d version, and were still very happy with it. I was depressed after seeing it, but still think everyone should go see it...

This was defintely a movie worth going to see. It was entertaining and was fast moving. It had great special affects. It had a moral issue to it. It was intense at times. The plot had more then one angle to it. I feel that if you go see it more then once you will probably see something different that you missed previously..

Having stayed away from all the hoopla for this movie, I found myself in an IMAX 3D theater with family ages from 11-45. For almost 3 hours not a single person stirred! If ever a movie can be visually stimulating, this is it! The added bonus, there is a story to go along with the incredible cinematography. It's been a while since I left a movie going, "WOW, that was an experience!" Well worth the extra $ for the IMAX 3D experience.

Since this kind of movies was not my taste therefore I did not want to go at first. After watching it with my hubby, I went to see it again with my friends. Good story, huge political message! One of the best movies I know so far of 2009.

This was a continuation of today's in your face save the planet from ourselves. Ignore the rest of the worlds inhabitants to obtain our own desires. Total Hog Wash. How many times has an audience applauded at the end of a movie?!! This is the first movie I have seen more than once in a theater. And I'm in my 50's. Appropriate for all ages.
Like a famous Indian saga with the morally correct outcome. Visually stunning movie, woven around a great message. Lack of star power (other than Sigourney Weaver) was a big plus. No egos to distract from the story.
Preferred the 2D version, but going to IMAX for my fourth viewing. And don't be distracted by critics of Eastern/Mother Earth philosophy (minimal). Their kids are going to love this movie, too.

I was hesitant to go but so glad I did! Yes the plot themes were not new but what plot really is? This was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time because it took me out of this world and made me think--classic quality science fiction--but then again, maybe not so fictional in some ways. The special effects were really cool! Definitely worth seeing!

Thought the 3d effects were exceptional but the storyline was ill conceived. Sounded like another President Obama apology tour. I'm a little sick of the high brow Hollywood crowd slipping in their opinion of how terrible we are as American to the rest of the poor oppressed peaceful inhabitants of the planet while making a freakin' 800 million dollar movie. But I ramble (much as Cameron did on this flick. 2:40 run time was too long. If he'd condensed this to 1:50 or so he might would have salvaged the story and everyone's patience. Good action sequences with amusing 3d make it worth a watch on Matinee prices.

The two men with whom I viewed this movie "couldn't relate" but I thought it was visually fascinating. The imaginative flora, fauna, geology and permutations from humans to Na'vi were a treat to watch. The plot was predictable but characters pretty well defined. It could have been edited down to 2 hours and still kept the story lively. I'll recommend it to my children and grandchildren, of course!

I couldn't believe the use of 3D. It is not overused and gimmicky for once (ie Jaws or Freddy's Dead 3D). The story is about a marine finding out who he is among a new world and unique surroundings. Action, romance and character development make for a perfect combination! This is a must see! Oh yeah, the effects are amazing too ;)

After several glowing reports from friends, I reluctantly went to see Avatar and was BLOWN AWAY!!!! What a ride! The special effects are mind-blowing but can only take you so far. The real beauty in Avatar is the story line with characters you care about, action sequences, and a moving love story. If you're concerned how live action and animation will merge...you won't even notice it. I was swept away into the story and never looked back.
There were young children in our audience but Avatar is not appropriate for children under 10 due to some language and violence.

I was very impressed by the color design and beautiful plant life in this film. Initially I did not want to see it as I thought it was going to be another ugly dark green toned war-centric sci-fi guy's geek flik like LOTR (which also has a lot of faintly disquised anti-feminism.) I was truely satisfied by this movie that took the feminine perspective into account as well as the masculine. The integration of cg with live action was excellent. My only giff would be minor as in some scenes the sky effect looks rushed and the clouds do not move, very 2D looking and unintegrated with the 3D, but that becomes unnoticeable as you get into the movie more. Excellent production!

This movie is in my all-time favorites and right now I'm not sure it isn't #1. Wow-great story-line, lots of visual entertainment, imaginative, and action-packed. A great mix of science and corporate greed that provided an underlying message that I think the WORLD better pay attention to. Our family will be getting this on DVD for our family library!!

Avatar is a mind blowing burst of imagination! Beautiful sets and detail with some borrowed sci-fi concepts(neural networks) but overall very original creatures and engaging action sequences and characters.The military leader was contrived as the iron -pumping govt-backed killer,but enjoyed the Sigourney Weaver character and scientist side-kicks.I feel the need to see it again-you will too!

Raw military action/fight scenes; truly fantastic animal chase scenes; plenty of heroes and heroins.some special tender moments to this "action" story. An excellent melancholy drama/comedy & social commentary.
Graphics and special effects added to the storyline- rather than distracted from the storyline- quite well.
Heard some critics complain Avatar is a bit 'political"; I say, 'so what?" No doubt as to the inference to American History- Western Expansion of Industrial American vs. the Native American Indian.
Other conflicts; Pursuit of corporate greed vs. pursuit of scientific knowledge; military imperialism vs. respect for human freedoms; the will of modern man vs. the Will of an ancient and transcendent God.

Excellent movie. Steady flow, brilliant imagery, compelling characters and soundtrack that brings out and reflects the events. Provides a window into a foreign culture impacted by outside forces such as a corporation with alterior motives. A reminder of a simplier culture that is connected to it's environment and coexists with rather than trying to control it's surrounding.

Excellent special effects, associated some things with the Star Wars movie, naturally. I would have liked to see more personal things, like what did they eat if everything was sacred? What kind of community life did they have besides the gathering for a council? More of their history also.
I know that it was almost 3 hours long but I felt there could have been more to the story. Also those were mercenaries not a government armed force. They could do whatever they wanted with out oversight.
