My husband and I went and saw this movie and although I am personally not into the sci fi thing, this was a really great movie! I would see it again and plan to own it once it becomes available on DVD. My husband loved it! Great story line and great special effects.

If you saw Fern Gulley as a kid, you saw Avatar (with a war-time twist). The story was so unbelievably unoriginal, the disappointment was palpable. However, the effects were pretty good and the movie was entertaining. OK to pass the time, but did not nearly live up to all the hype.

I read different reviews about this movie but decided I must see it for myself before forming any judgments. Well, I thought it was an incredible movie. You know a movie with animation is good when you stop looking at the animated characters as animation and start seeing them as, ahem, people.
The storyline flowed well and was believable. The animated creatures moved in a realistic manner but were also different enough to reflect the fact that they evolved in a different planet. The interactions between the human actors and the animations and their environment were flawless. I take my hat off to everyone involved in the making of this movie because they are definitely at the cutting edge in this genre of movies right now.

I thought the movie was great. The story was OK but the visual affects were fantastic. I was not ready for the movie to end. Great but not as great a story as Star Wars

When I purchased tickets to see Avatar with my wife, we expected to see a good, cool movie. We sat down in the theatre for the 2:40 minute runtime, and left feeling shocked. We both looked at each other as we walked out of the theatre and said at the same time "I think we have just seen the greatest movie ever made" Avatar is just that, the greatest, most technologically advanced movie ever made. It is a triumph for mankind's advancement in technology and is the new base for which all tech-movies will be judged.

Technically superior. Wasn't able to connect emotional content between Avatar and human. Not enough time spent on the thought that all living life forms are connected. The scene at the end with the elephant looking creatures reminded me of an old Tarzan movie.

I took my Mom & daughter to this movie, may I say none of us are sci-fi lovers but we heard it was good entertainment for a boring cold winter day. Well, it is amazing!! I loved Avatar and think that it is one of the best Sci-Fi movies of all times. i put it up and slightly above Star Wars! It is a must see and in 3 D. The 3D is not cheezy effects it is about imersing you in the movie. It is the best use of 3D I have ever seen. If this movei does not win an awrd for best visual effects the acadamy is rigged.

First, a disclaimer: I saw this on an Ultra Screen, which is a big screen, but was not in 3-D. I don't know that seeing it in 3-D would change my opinion of the movie a whole lot, although maybe I would be wowed by that gimmick.
If you have seen Independence Day, Dances With Wolves, Return of the Jedi, and Brigadoon you have seen this movie already--save your money. If you haven't seen all of the above, use your money to rent them and skip this movie. If this is the future of movies, the future is bleak indded.

This is much more than a film! Rather it is an entire experience. The world that James Cameron creates takes the you on a journey that will grasp you and pull on each of your emotions. This is a tale that will forever change films to come. The visuals in this film are breathtaking and the designs of the digital characters are truly realistic yet still imaginative. Many have mentioned that this story is a reproduction of “Dances with Wolves” or “FernGully,” and it is true that this story has been told before, but this film is told is such a way that makes it truly original. While watching, you can’t help but identify with the characters. The film is long but it goes by fast, and by the time you reach the end, you’ll be yearning for more.

The Avatar world was amazing. I tremendously enjoyed this movie. The way this movie was filmed and all the special effects are the best I have ever seen. Beautiful to look at but the story didn't require 2 hours and 40 minutes. If it had been 1 hr 45 min I would give it 4 stars. Story was typical greedy Americans who don't take care of their enviroment and want to do the same to others using the military as the bad guys.

We were disapointed that we did see the movie in 3D. When I purchased the tickets on line it looked like I was buying tickets for the 3D version. The movie was still very good.

Great movie with outstanding special effects. Unfortunately, the "land grabbers" and "business people" end up being the bad guys. That accounts for the four instead of five star rating. I realize intelligent choices were not made in the past, but we have learned. I do not need this movie or any other movie to shove the idea of sharing this world down my throat.

The movie captured our attention from beginning to end. I liked the parallel themes that the movie portrayed, including current conflicts on our planet (preemptive war, control of natural resources, life in a post global warming earth and exporting it elsewhere in 2154, etc).

Avatar was an excellent movie with a concealed message. That all things are connected. The graphics were great, and the movie moved along at a really good clip. The movie was 2hrs and 40 minutes or so, but seemed like a standard movie. The plot was a hair predictable, but the overall effect was a great movie, good story line and very well done.

It was like Dances With Wolves on steriods! Loved the 3D and special effects...AMAZING! 3D has really come along way since the cardboard red and blue glasses. The characters were likable enough...the story..well. Still it's definately a must see!
