This was not the best movie ever, even the biggest geeks out there have to acknowledge that. It does not deserve 5 out of 5 stars.
It was entertaining and fun, but it wasn't mind bendingly awesome.
The development of Spock and Kirk was great, the other characters just pop in. The people in the theater who were in costume laughed a lot, so I am guessing if you were a huge fan there is a lot of extra fun for you.

My attention was captured from beginning to end. I enjoyed the effects, the cast, and the "twists" in the plot. It may not be a super serious Sci-Fi movie, but it was entertaining. NOTE: If you are a super Trekkie geek, don't overanalyze it.

The cinematography was white and shinny. The close-ups were classic and the fighting was big, but not much uniqueness. Because it is star trek, there are great laughs found with every introduction to the characters. A lot of classic clechés that still make you smile. It is a must see for all star trek fans, and a good Thursday night entertainment for the virgins.

This latest version of the ST franchise is an incredibly loving tribute to Gene Roddenberry... and, like Leonard Nimoy after his screening, I found myself in tears as the movie ended.
This film is so wonderfully seamless, so beautifully conceived, so expertly acted by all... I'm simply blown-away. It's far better than I could've either imagined or hoped.
While many don't look the same, their abilities to capture the mannerisms and spirit of their forebears - without succumbing to tacky impressions - is astounding.
It will be the singular blockbuster of the summer. Non-trekkers will enjoy it; die-hard fans will think it the ultimate homage to the original show.
In short, go see it. More than once. It's incredible.

This movie has lived up to and exceeded all the hype preceding its debut. Absolutely incredible. There are a few twists to the plot line which really makes for a very credible movie. Showing Spock's and Kirk's youth history allows non-trekkers to identify with these characters. I have never been to a movie with so much applauding during and after the movie ended and from what I could observe, the vast majority of the full house were in the under 25 age group. Way to go. I will go see this again. Probably a little to intense for the smaller kids, but 8 yr olds on up should have no trouble understanding and enjoying the movie. Go see it!.

I've been watching Trek as long as I can remember. i went into this movie with somewhat tempered expectations because of this. I mean, how could anyone live up to Shatner? I can say that my expectations were blown away. The movie was amazing. I can't wait to see everyone return for the sequel.

Every summer there seems to be a movie, highly anticipated and expensive to make, that kicks off the summer movie season with a bang. Terminator Salvation is a week to late!!! I waited with great anticipation and was not disappointed.

It's pretty much fantastic. The casting and acting is spot-on, and the story is compelling. Mr. Roddenberry would be proud! The only sad thing at the end of the film is that we're going to have to wait a couple years for another one...

Completely enjoyable. Well written, well acted, full of sly (and not-so-sly) references throughout. Absolutely in the spirit of Star Trek, without being tedious. In the same manner that Quantum of Solace "rebooted" James Bond, this movie reboots the Trek franchise.

I was impressed by most everything. There is the whole paradox issue, I think but why over think it? It was fun and exciting from start to finish. They did a great job of reinventing the characters and made sure to protect Gene Roddenberry's concepts. I loved it and will see it again.

The heart of classic Star Trek has always been the characters and they are all here in both familiar and new ways. Really nice work. Casting these iconic parts was thoughtfully done and the emotional lives of the characters rings true. The effects are - of course - outstanding. Thumbs up. Trek is back!

This movie was very entertaining from the perspective of a non “Treky”. I took a friend who is a huge fan. He didn’t enjoy it as much as I did but said it was a good movie. His major issue with the film was that a lot of information is given to the audience in a short period of time. I felt like I got to know the characters personalities and history right off the bat and had could understand their actions later in the movie.
The special effects were, to use a pun "out of this world". There was a lot of action and it was entertaining the whole way through.
Even if you are not a star trek fan this movie will entertain you and be a good flick to take in while it is on the big screen.

If Gene Roddenberry's dream was that someone else could make the series better then J.J. Abrams did the right thing.
The movie is the best of the everything. I'll see it again so I can see what I missed the first time around. The underlying story is what is best, followed by great acting, and finally special effects. Usually the order is reversed. We're lucky to see Abrams put his talents on this. I hope we're lucky enough to get another.... SOON!!!

This movie definitely moves the Star Trek franchise back in the right direction. I see lots of the TOS and TNG fans are complaining because it is in a way severing the history they know so well. If you see this for what it is, a desperately needed reboot of the franchise, you will be very happy. Abrams cuts the cord with the previous history in a very well explained plot line that does not pull punches, yes the good guys do sometimes die in this Trek universe.
All the actors nailed their characters, most notable of course is Quinto as Spock and Urban as Bones. Nimoy is spectacular in this film and provides the bridge from one world to the next with all the depth we have come to expect from the original Spock.

I loved this movie, without giving my age (lol), I remember the first Star Trek in 1979. This one definately kept with the times without appearing to glorify modern times as well. The characters were definitely believable and the special effects were awesome! I loved this movie and would recommend to anyone, whether you follow the story or not. If you don't follow the story, then go watch the other ones just for the heck of it!!!

Definitely fun high adventure akin to Indiana Jones. Loved this movie which gave us a lot of chuckles from the popular refrain comments we have come to know over the years from these characters to the high action in interstellar space! Only one bad spot for me. Did you really need to use the beastie boys? They're from the upper west side not Iowa! Maybe Elvis would have been wayyyyyyy cooler!

What a fantastic movie for both long time Star Trek fans AND people who don't know Star Trek from Galaxy Quest. Funny, exciting, thrill-packed, memorable characters, multiple cliffhanger situations, phaser battles, you name it. Everything the OLD 1960s Star Trek TV show had and nothing of what the recent boring Star Trek series and films had. Yet, even though it captured the spirit of the old TV show, it had the pace and effects and vigor of the best of what movie goers expect in 2009. Am definitely going to see it again!
