This movie goes, with the intensity of the characters and spectacular special effects and warp drive action, where no tv show or movie or book has gone before.
You will recognise a mischievious Kirk, but not the genuine, 'James Dean' type, 'bad boy' as a youth, you will recognise the logical Spock, but not the extent of adolescent internal conflict that seldom surfaced before.
Bones was a more intense Bones; Scotty was more Scottish andChecov, Sulu and Ohura were younger, shining stars
The story is a little subjagated to the action and the effects. But, I was having too much fun to notice. It was a great ride.

If you don't catch this movie! I really can't wait to go watch this again in Imax this time. I will def buy the HD DVD when it comes out. I am not a fan of prequels but this movie excelled. My wife who is not a trek fan really enjoyed the movie as well. Watch for some well known actors throughout the film.

Every fan of big movies, and every fan of Star Trek, owes it to themselves to see this. J.J. Abrams and company have managed to strike the perfect balance between paying homage and respect to what was and introducing something new. It's an intense ride for almost all of the two-hour run time, but still manages to convey depth of character. It also has a ton of great laughs. This movie will win over old fans (the normal ones, not the bitter, never-satisfied-with-anything super nerds) and create new ones, guaranteed.

After the disappointment of Wolverine last week Star Trek was so refreshing. It attempts to do everything that a summer movie should; a mix of humor, action, good story, great cast and interesting character arcs. JJ Abrams hits all these beats perfectly and the result is just a flat out great time! Basically Star Trek is lots of fun and whether you are familiar with the source material or not (I wasn't) you will definitely enjoy yourself.

I was expecting a great movie based on the premise and the previews. Yet this film totally exceeded my expectations. The new people playing Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Zulu, Checkov and Uhura were superb. They obviously studied well. And, as other reviewers have said, there are topnotch special effects and a real storyline. Finally, Nimoy's part is thankfully more than just a cameo teaser. Go see this movie!

I've seen every episode and every movie and fan film of Trek, and this one is by far the best I've seen.
Great character build, excellent plot, beautiful drama, superb action, and great comedy. What more could you ask for in a movie!

Being a very serious Trek lover, I was nervous about film going back in time and rewritting history, so to speak. But this movie was beyond incredible! I loved every single part of it and especially enjoyed seeing well known, beloved crew members in such a different light. Its an amazing feat to take characters people know so well and develop a whole other side to them. The actors were incredibly believable as younger versions of well established characters. I'll be seeing this film as many times as possible.

Great Movie.To see how they incorporated some of the old themes from the Original series into this movie was shear genious.CG was awesome and Story line was good.They really did a great job making Spock look like the Spock we knew.

JJ Abrams has now reset the enitre Star Trek mythos but introducing this alternate timeline of the core original series characters. The possibilities are endless for this new world. The movie captured the original series character personalitties while still allowing them to interact differently within the Star Trek Universe. The movie was well paced & visually stunning. The industrial feel of the ships and era were a great connector of our present to the future. Will see it again! Can't wait for the DVD

This could have gone either way and I went into the theater with mediocre expectations. I have to say I thought this was a brilliant movie! After the initial cheesy 15 minutes of set up it really took off and I loved the casting, I loved each actors take on the characters. The story was perfect, not just your typical prequel, we know what happens, yada yada yada. I highly recomend this movie to everyone. Fan or not.

When I say Star Trek is cool again, I don't mean that it's sold out. This Trek fan absolutely loved it, and so did her non-Trekkie friends. The plot isn't perfect, but the whole cast is amazingly spot-on and Abrams manages to combine thrilling action and great special effects with the spirit, heart and character interactions that made Trek Trek. It has something for everyone, and is exactly what's needed to reboot the franchise. I can't wait to see where this crew goes next. Trek fans, set your doubts at rest; non-fans, give this film a chance.

Overall, I thought the new "Star Trek" was great. It took characters we are already very attached to and re-introduced them in a very respectful and exciting way.
- There were some great, detailed nods to the original series.
- Because of the emotional drama of the opening conflict, this big ole Southern boy had tears welling up in his eyes in the first five minutes.
- Actors did a nice job mimicking the classic actors while making these characters their own. More Bones! More Scotty!
- Great Sci-fi story.
- Not sure what Trekkors will think about the "reboot," though. I'm torn myself.
Totally worth the $10 I spent. I might go see it again. It will surely be the first "Trek" movie in my extensive DVD collection.

Casting, special effects and for the most part the story was good. Kirk's ascension to captain of the Enterprise was completely unrealistic. You can take what you know about Trek lore, wad it up, and throw it in the garbage. So for new fans this movie will be a fresh start and really cool. Old fans may be upset. Personally I would have preferred to have seen a trilogy about Kirks ascension to captain which would have been the highlight of the third movie. But again this is a fresh start. I still loved the movie but mainly just because it was Star Trek and all of my favorite characters are young!!!!

No it is not the old show, nor the old movies. It has warped into a new dimension. Due to an event in the future, the past is changed and so are the lives of this universe. It takes a turn not expected but gets through the journey just fine, in real Star Trek form. No the characters are not identical models of the originals. There is no way they could be, but take them out of the original universe and set them moving in a slightly new universe and you have a multitude of new stories to follow. Chris Pine is great as Kirk. Zackary Quinto could have been a dupe for the young Spock, he looks so much like him. He was awesome. I loved Bones too, always reminding us that 'I'm a doctor, not a...'

If you've never seen Star Trek, this movie is AWESOME!!!. If you've been a fan of the original series for the last 40 years, as I have been, there's a ton of stuff to digest and overcome, hence, for me, this is not a 5 star movie.
Cannon has been changed, irreparably in this film. The events depicted in this film had not happened in the established time line of the original series. Casting is awesome!! Everyone brought their A game to the table.
So, if you're geek fanboy since 1966, and are looking for continuity, you'll have to convince yourself that these events take place in an alternate reality in order to embrace this movie. The Trek I knew and loved is gone, but I think I can learn to love this one too.

As a lukewarm Star Trek fan, I went expecting to be somewhat disappointed with an over done remake of the original series. Was I ever wrong!! The characters were true to their predecessors, but still original and very likable. The story line was a little typical and not of the quality of the original series, but it was interesting enough to carry the true intent of the picture which was to prequel the characters and their introductions to each other.

I have been a long time Star Trek Fan though I wouldnt rate myself a trekkie. If this movie is going to be the new standard of Trek movies then I can safely say I am 100% a Trekkie now. IT WAS AWSOME...
The effects was off the board, the story line was actually there and I never found myself bored or wishing the story line would progress so I could see more action. And they absolutly nailed all the original characters traits. Go see it!

Co-written by a Trek fan and a non-Trek fan. Non scifi fan: great mix of character, humor, drama. Scifi language light, action doesn’t detract. Don't have to be Trek fan to enjoy! There is plenty of action and the 2 hours goes by fast. Movie was well paced. The special effects are very good. Most all main characters get decent screen. Trek fan: No plot holes jumped out in the first viewing. Plenty of Trek references. Nimoy isn’t a cameo- important to the plot. Changes to Trek history are explained. One of best Trek movies to date. Two knocks: 1. Too much jittery camera effects / close ups which got annoying 2. Eric Bana great, but Nero was typical baddie. Another 5 min to flesh him out would've helped, but movie was set up as fast paced.

For a franchise that's been around this long there are always big doubts when they attempt to re-invented it. But re-invent it they did!
We now have the back-story on all the characters from the original series and Star Trek is off again. Very well done! An excellent movie Star Trek fan or not!!

This movie isn't your father's Star Trek, but a reasonable facsimile. It ties together all of the original characters, in a new way, though some of the changes might leave the hardcore trekkies a bit miffed. Overall it's a good movie, decent action sequences, good dialogue, good acting and enough humor to make it fun without being ridiculous.

I've been follwing the production of this movie for at least two years. After finally getting to see it, I'd say it lived up to about 99% of my high expectations.
The casting is genius, and the script is full of nice character moments that stay true to orignal series. There is plenty of humor, almost too much with Scotty, but with someone as funny as Simon Pegg it must have been hard to keep under control. Visual effects are eye-popping magnificent, the Enterprise herself looks very good. The music is terrific.
The movie is so fast paced, there will be more to enjoy after future viewings. I felt the same way after the first viewing of Wrath of Khan. This is a good thing. Well done to J.J. and his team!
