Excellent movie. First movie I've attended on opening night in many years and it was well worth it. I think the movie sticks to the originally storyline as much as it could. With the exception of the nice update to the bridge area which was nice I liked the fact that the Enterprise looked like the original with few modifications. Even the shuttles looked original. Cast fit the crew well and it was really nice the way the crew met each other. The humor was unexpected but well done. Overall a great movie, I hope the cast stays together for many "Trek" movies to come.

This is the Christmas present, in May for all of trekdom and everyone elese who enjoys a phenemenal piece of action, story, and effects.

Excellent Movie

While not perfect, this new breed of Star Trek movie is just what the doctor (McCoy?) ordered for the aging franchise. JJ Abrams and crew wanted to make Star Trek fresh and cool again and I believe they have succeeded. Despite a somewhat convoluted and complex story, the movie is still very fun and enjoyable. If I had not been so well versed in the Trek universe I probably would have gotten lost in all of it.

Still, there is enough action, humor and character arcs to keep most viewers in their seats, despite the rampant technobabble.

Overall, this is a fun and exciting film, and I'm hopeful it will inject new life into this beloved franchise. I recommend going to see this movie 2 or 3 times (or more)!

Seems someone decided to take note of the details and produce a quality trek film. I like the fact that the ship feels like a updated version of the orginal ship.....and the tech of the future was not over done.....a real ship feel.

Also very well performed with great editing....I don't think I every felt the movie sag anywhere. The series has offically rebooted!

Dudes, this is the by far the most awesome movie I have seen this year. I had Knowing on that list, but from the extreme opening scenes to the shocking romance of two of our fav characters, this is going to be HUGE. Can't wait to see the next three installments coming soon (you know they're coming, so don't deny it)... Go see this one and don't forget tograb a large popcorn. You gonna need it.

Star Trek is a mind blowing race of great special effects, superb acting, classic battles and just sheer fun. If you arent a Trekkie, you will LOVE this movie. If you are a Trekkie, go to the movie expecting a good flick, but do not go expecting your classic Star Trek experience. This movie is a "reboot" for the series. They change quite a few things, where as a dedicated Trek fan, made me feel a little uneasy once I left the film. Having said that, it is good enough, that I will see it again and again.

Exciting for old and new fans!

While there are some plot twists that will leave Trekkies scratching our collective heads (pun intended), this is a truly amazing movie. The plot is deeper than could have been expected from some of the more recent offerings. The action is excellent, as are the special effects. While there is significant deviation from the "cannon", it is done in a way that is "respectful" of the series and serves as a re-launch for what will hopefully be a vibrant future for the franchise!

I agree with the other posters. I am a big Star Trek fan but you don't have to be. The movie was fun and exciting. It may have messed a bit with Star Trek mythos but that's okay. It's a new, fun beginning.

I'm not sure what the point of the movie was. Instead of focusing on telling a good story, they spent half the time on the convoluted and ultimately unnecessary time travel aspect. Why not just do a straight reboot? The great special effects and acting make for at least decent entertainment, but overall this was a very superficial movie - a pretty shaky plot and no emotional resonance at all.

This movie way exceeded my expectations. It was consistent to the tradition, but gave itself space to expand and grow beyond what has already been done. The effects were...WOW! From beginning to end, on the edge of my seat, caught up in the characters and story. The actors were all well chose for their parts. I LOVED this movie!

Really enjoyed this film; it was funny, moving, tragic, and action-filled. A couple of "huh?" moments and I felt the final showdown was less climatic than you would expect, but I prefer that to a long, drawn out sequence that outlasts your interest in the crisis. Kudos to J.J. Abrams for a great re-boot!

While being a Star Trek fan I was concerned that this movie would drastically change what I know of the series, but there was not as many changes as I feared. There was plenty of action, smooth story and lots of laughs. A very good beginning to what I hope to be another line of Star Trek movies. Can't wait for #2!

Amazing!!!! I was blown away with this movie. Everyone must go see it. It was everything. Action, adventure, comedy, romance, and drama. It is everything rolled up in one great movie. I never really watched Strar Trek but my husband did, and so we went to see it. It looked interesting on the trailors, but what did I know about the characters or the whole background story. Let me tell you, there is no need to see any Star Trek before, because you will want to see the movies and episodes after. It was amazing!!! The movie makes you love all of the characters, and makes you want to know what was the old story and how did it relate. Just make sure you hold on to your seat because this is a ride and a half. I will be seeing it again soon.

Fantastic voyage

Abrams and the writers have ressurected this franchise to a whole new and fresh level. The actors did an amazing job in keeping true to the personalities of the old series. The story is exceptional. It is reminescent of a 2 hr series finally that leaves you wanting more.
The writing is superb in keeping a consistancy with TV series and movies past that all old trekkies will appreciate.
I think this film will grab new fans and propell us all into another fantastic voyage.
When's the next one ?

Holy cow!!! With all of the hype, I came in expecting greatness and I didn't get it - I GOT MUCH MORE. I am a huge Star Trek fan and even though there were a couple of items that were not true to the original canon, that was so minor it is hardly worth mentioning.

This was the kick in the @$$ that this franchise needed and this by far, was one of the best if not THE best movie in the series.

I thought this movie was great. I liked the way they introduced the characters and the plot was wonderful (Great Story). This film opens up a whole new era for Star Trek fans old and new. The alternate universe they suggest in the movie leaves open many new and exciting adventures. I for one will wait in great anticipation for the next film which I believe will be even better than this great film.

With dizzying camera effects and fast pace, the beginning tricked me into thinking I was going to be disappointed. As each of the characters from the original series were introduced, my mind was changed. There is some profanity that could have been left out, but overall this was an excellent movie.

I'm sure Gene Roddenberry is turning over in his grave. His original story line has been turned inside out and given a new spin. For die hard Trek fans like myself who grew up with the franchise it was disappointing. Uhura & Spock? Come on. Not that the movie was short on action, good affects, & entertaining, Gene's concept has gone by the wayside. I'm sure this movie & it's 2 sequels will do well but I'm afraid this is not Star Trek..

Boldly Going Into A New Future

It was great to watch these young actors create the foundation for the mature relationships that we know and love from the older characters. The pacing of the delivery, the physicality of the characters, the respect for abilities, the burgeoning sense of humor, and yes...even the alien 'encounter' were all there to enjoy. Sure there is some awkwardness to the vehicle that frees these characters to boldly go in a new direction but isn't it worth it to be able to continue the ride? Congratulations and thanks to the director, producers, writers, performers, and the whole kit-and-kaboodle that made the continuing adventure possible! I'll be on 'stand-by' until the next mission.

Star Trek is BACK

This is the first movie revise to get truly excited about. Everything about it is done well: the story, the acting, the effects, ect. J J Abrams has made it new without losing the integrity of the old, his solution (without giving it away) gives the opportunity for completely new story lines to follow without diminishing any of the old ones. Truly genius.

This is the best Star Trek Movie of them all. Good bye to Rick Burman and hello and welcome Mr Abrams. This is what we've been waiting on for years. Although I found the plot to be somewhat disappointing, I expect that what happens next will be explained in the next movie that is due out next year maybe? So I will say the plot is good for now to be continued to the next movie. I liked all the characters except Uhura, I though it showed her character to be weak and just a boy toy. How the crew came to know one another and how they start to form a team is very important and very well scripted in this movie. So overall I rate it a 5. The transitions to warp are just fraking sweet!
