After all the years of seeing Star Trek sequels that never seemed to live to the media hype and couldn't quite hit the mark, I am so happy that movie did the most basic of things: entertain. I have been a fan of Star Trek, but I don't consider myself a Trekkie. So I was able to watch this movie without bias, but I knew enough to enjoy all the slick homages to the original characters as well. I took a girl that I'm dating to the movie. She hates the entire Star Trek lore, but even she admitted to enjoying this film. In the end, we were entertained by this film. How could you argue with that?

I really enjoyed this movie. It had a lot of elements from the old star trek series which made it fun and nostalgic, but at the same time it maintained a sense of originality. The characters were well casted to portray the original crew members of the enterprise. A great movie for any star trek fan!

It was much better than I expected: good, solid plot; strong special effects; well selected cast. If you're a Trek fan you're probably going to love it.
If I were less a Trek fan and more a movie critic, I'd say that the special effects were overdone at times (not surprising), and they had to work a little too hard to give all of the "traditional" characters a meaningful role. There were some strange plot hole

the last time I went to the theaters to see a Star Trek movie was for Star Trek 4, but last night I went to see this 'reinvention' and enjoyed it very much. the way the characters are introduced and subsequently developed is a lot of fun, and for those who remember the cast and campiness of the original, there are some homages that inspired a few laughs out loud. there is also one scene that, quite ironically, reminded me of Galaxy Quest. Chris Pine was great, but Zach Quinto's Spock seems to miss the mark a bit. the live action is great, the visual effects good, and the score was fantastic.

Loved the movie, and it was great to have a new Trek for the young generation. I am an old time trekkie and once I realized it was an altered reality it put all the supercritical reveiws out of my head. Great action. I can't wait to add it to my home collection.

There wasn't a single thing where I said "If only they had...".

I've always been a fan of the original series. It's strengths have always been it's campy politically incorrect vibe. That's now been updated to a bit more trendy look, nonstop action and great almost sensory overload FX.
Trek fans are the most shrewd movie nitpickers around. I tend to be one of those that fall into that category. There were only 3 things that bothered me a bit about the movie. Chekov's casting, how too convenient to the plot Spock gives up command to Kirk and this essentially wipes the slate clean for the original generation in an alternate reality universe. None of that effected my overall enjoyment of the movie though.

Great movie. All should see. Excellent tie ins to all of our old favorite charactors, where they came from, how they grew up, and how they got there positions. Great special effects. I am waiting for the sequal now. Hopefully the sequal will keep all the same actors. They were great.

I saw this with my husband, who is a big Star Trek fan. I've never watched the tv series and knew next to nothing about Star Trek. This movie totally stands alone! It was really great and I enjoyed it immensely. I'd see this one again!
Even if you aren't a die-hard Star Trek fan, you'll love this movie. I don't think you need to know the whole story and background to understand what's going on and enjoy getting to know these characters. Great acting, especially by Zachary Quinto as Spock!

I have so much to say, but don't want to put spoilers here. GO SEE THE MOVIE. OK, some canons are twisted a bit, but it works. The cast was amazing and they really did their homework...true professionals. The effects were AWESOME. The writers and actors did a really good job of translating the iconic personalities of the TOS crew into their youth. These TOS characters have become richer and deeper because of this film. The whole world of starfleet seems to have more character because of this movie.

Over the top action from the very start and performances that made the younger versions of the TV characters completely believable made Strar Trek a success!
I felt that there were some logical disconnects within the plot of this film. There were also logical disconnects between this film, the TV show and the other "future" evolutions of the series. However, this film was throughly enjoyable nonetheless.
A new Star Trek series is sure to follow.

I have been a lifelong fan of the Trek franchise, with the original series influencing my interests in the sciences. My daughter grew up with TNG and became a sci-fi / fantasy writer. So, I had VERY HIGH expectations coming into this 'reboot'...
JJ and team delivered a top-notch product that felt right and provided a thrilling experience that drew me in deeply, quickly. When the end credits rolled, I had to check my watch twice; the 2 hours literally flew by at warp speed. This film just keeps on coming with the laughs, the love, the lessons. And the action!
Whether you're a seasoned fan or never watched a frame of the earlier works, give this movie a shot. It's the 'logical' thing to do.

I went in trying not to expect much - I've been let down before w/ST movies.
This. Was. Amazing.
It really is true to the fans, yet something you can come into not knowing all the back stories and still enjoy it. Just the perfect amount of story, humor, surprises, good music and effects.
I felt the blend of suspense and relief was right on. Nothing seemed "overdone" or too "inside-joke", even though long-time fans had a lot to appreciate!
For parents - the brief SC scene is nothing to be concerned about - it was actually quite humorous.
Overall - Star Trek is BACK baby! Don't wait for the DVD - it's worth the few bucks to see it in the theatre. LIFE IS SHORT - GO SEE TREK!

I am a hardcore Trek fan especially of the original crew . So this movie I would be much more leary of than if it were a new crew and a new ship etc... I can tell you this movie not only did the original crew proud, but it has brought Trek back to life. The story was well written the FX were off the grid and the action was non stop. I think this movie will do what it was intended to do, bring old and new Trek fans in and reboot the franchise. Well done JJ

This was such an enjoyable movie! Full of action with breathtaking special effects, but the most satisfying part of it was how well the actors portrayed the characters - it was spooky - but they still managed to bring their own stuff to the table as well. It had the funny, easy quality that TOS had and that has been missing in the past several movies, but was carried out with a lot of respect for the franchise. Well done!

This movie will definitely appeal to a broad audience. The effects were amazing -- far beyond anything Star Trek has done before -- and the plot was not as complex as it might have been (but Star Trek fans are no strangers to crazy time travel arcs). At times, the story even seemed a little light, i.e., the many convenient twists designed to bring the original crew together. In the end, though, it was a very good movie. The opening scenes were some of the best Star Trek ever. Still, for long-time fans I think its a little bitter-sweet to see new people and events in the Star Trek universe.

Being a fan of the Original Series and the other movies, (with the many series in-between), I wasn't sure what to expect. I have to admit I was very surprised at how well this movie was done. I have to admit this movie franchise need a reboot. It got it, and then some. The story was unique, and the effects were top notch. The casting was impeccable. There were some slight changes to the old story, but acceptable. I won't give anything away. I would definately recommend this movie to anyone who has loved Star Trek. Go see it and become a fan again!

Don't believe the hype. This is a big, loud and relatively stupid movie. There is nothing epic about this film. Nothing iconic about. It moves so quickly from plot point to plot point, it ultimately runs over character, story and logic. Moreover, the pit stops it makes all feel forced and ham-handed. Save your money!

Excellent reboot of the franchise. Great cast. For those of familiar with the franchise it may seem redundant as they re-introduce characters but the payoff is worth the wait.

I absolutely loved this film. I caught the 10pm show last night and was tempted to call out of work today to go see it again. This movie surpassed all expectations! near perfect filmaking and and all around great time at the movies for star trek fans and non fans alike. I saw it with die hard fans and people who have never seen star trek at all and all of us left the theater with smiles on our faces. Please go out and support this film. I will be taking my kids and father to see it this weekend and i hope this movie dominates the box office. it was extremely refreshing after sitting through a terribly made film like wolverine last week.
