For a sci-fi movie it was great. I don't usually go to sci-fi movies but it was interest ing to find out how the crew got together. It was amazing that they found an actor who looked like Leonard Nimoy to portray him at an earlier age.

Many people are giving this movie a 5 out of 5. To be fair, I'd have to give it a 4 out of 5. It was a wonderful retake of an old story and fans will be delighted. New comers can easily grasp the movie. The acting is superb and the characters are, for the most part, similar to the original cast in terms of looks. The feel however, is a bit different. I can't quite explain without spoiling the movie but the story remains true to the heart of Star Trek so enjoy it.

I have been a fan of Star Trek for nearly 20 years now, seen all of the movies, and watched the shows. I had high hopes for this movie, and it delivered. It was true to the mythology, but at the same time very deliberately chose it's own path. It was kinetic, fun, funny, and genuinely emotional. I enjoyed every moment of it.
It was everything that has made Trek great for four decades, and every bit as relevant for the zeitgeist that it beamed itself into.

I was very worried about how this movie would turn out but was extremely satisifed with the experience. The story has a few bumps but for the most part fits well for the future of the series. Effects were great and acting was great. JJ Abrams and crew brought this franchise back from the brink and I'm excited about what the future holds. My only concern is losing any of cast for future movies. The chemistry is perfect and needs to stay in place.

I am sure there are some Trek wonks who will split hairs over the details... Whatever. But for me (and the friends/family we joined me) it was just PURE ENTERTAINMENT. First movie I bothered to see in a theatre since before Xmas. I'm a Netflix baby. This one was worth the inconvenience of not watching it on my jiggy flat panel TV, sitting on a comfy leather couch at home. In other words, go ahead and leave the house this weekend and see THIS movie in the theater! Great movie!

Short Version: Good movie! Go see it!
Long-winded Version: As a stand-alone summer movie for the general movie-going public, "Star Trek" is outstanding. For true Trekkers, people who have problems with the suspension of disbelief, and active and ex- military folks, forget Star Trek canon and leave your brains at home. The movie has excellent character development for the Original Series fans, preposterous technical gobbledy-gook for the Next Generation fans, an improbable romance for the ladies, lots of zooms and ka-booms for the guys, and is overall entertaining for everyone else.
Go see it.

Amazing movie. One of the most well-paced movies I have ever seen. The action was spectacular, and while some of the shots were cliché, JJ Abrams managed to create some stills that are Godfather-worthy. Enough throwbacks to keep Trekies yelping and a great reboot to bring in a new crowd. Jim is a badass, Spock is calm and composed (mostly), and Ohura demands nothing but respect on the deck. I expect at least another 3 movies from this cast.

If you love the original series, you may or may not like this film. It is more accessible for non-Star Trek fans. It is really an action film, and there is nothing to uniquely tie the Star Trek characters in to this movie. This movie was the opposite extreme of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It was all action and not very much about the characters. ST: TMP was no action and again not very much about the characters. It is indeed not your daddy's Star Trek. It has lost a lot in the appeal to the masses. On a positive note, Chris Pine was not that bad as young Kirk, and Quinto was excellent. Too bad the story and script were mindless and without the soul that was the original series.

I've never seen a Star Trek TV show, movie or anything...last night was the first. And I loved it. JJ Abrams did a great job of creating a believable un-believable world. The special effects were crazy. The acting was good enough (no one is winning an Oscar, but that's not what I'm there to watch anyway...at least there weren't any Jar-Jar Binx idiots). I also liked the themes of the movie...dealing with emotions of grief, trust and friendship. I'm looking forward to the next movie and some heavier plot lines. This was a great first movie, like Batman Begins; now we need a Dark Knight!

Is the new "Star Trek" the best Trek yet? In my review for LongIslandSentinel.com, I wrote:
But what about the big question for fans? That is, where does this movie rank among the other “Star Trek” films? Previously, “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” and “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country” ranked best in this Trekker’s book. The new “Star Trek” certainly beats the other eight Trek films, and it rates just as good as II and VI.
But better? I’ll have to see the movie again before deciding, but I’m leaning towards saying that, yes, this “Star Trek” ranks as the best. And given my allegiance to William Shatner’s Kirk, Nimoy’s Spock and DeForest Kelly’s Dr. McCoy, I actually feel a bit guilty – but a guilty pleasure, indeed.

This film has considerable strengths, as I will be the first to admit. Overall well cast with well-done action scenes--there are serious problems.It is so incredibly nonsensical at times that it almost ruined the film for me. For example, the plot device used to get Kirk onto the surface of the ice world so that he could have some alone time with a certain veteran actor was simply preposterous. So about 20 minutes of the middle of the movie made me ready to give up on it.

While Star Trek was an enjoyable adventure, and the beginning portion of the movie was a fun foray into each characters' history, the movie ultimately ends up being pretty brainless.
Instead of following the characters and their struggles intimately, highlighting their ingenuity, the movie seems to do everything it can to "reboot" the series as quickly as possible.
Convoluted character introductions and too many convenient coincidences really destroy the suspension of disbelief.
The action sequences are fun, but if you expect the story to be inspired or make any sense, look elsewhere. This is not a movie for "thinkers". Thinking too hard will limit your enjoyment, which is unfortunate.

SPOILER: The filmmakers did a good job of explaining the differences between actual STAR TREK lore and the newer version, but is this the version that's going to continue? If it is, it downplays the importance of the timeline, because it's not the actual one! By the end of the film, everyone is where they're supposed to be, but too much has changed outside of the Enterprise, in the world of the Fedration. I enjoyed the special effects, especially the warp speed effects, especially coming out of warp! Overall, a must see for non-fans and fans need to have an open mind.

The best summer movie since Spiderman 2! What a terrific, funny, dramatic, thrilling Trek this is. We went with three Star Trek fans and three people that wouldnt be caught dead in a trek movie and we all LOVED it.
Beautiful to look at, terrific cast, brilliant story set up for future films with this group.
JJ Abrams proves Lost and Fringe are no fluke. What a great movie-going again tomorrow!

I gave this movie 5 stars only because I cannot give it 100 stars!!! This movie was amazing, and it managed to perfectly reboot the series, and even manage to explain why things were the way they were! No spoilers here...8-) If you are a Trekkie, you will love this movie...if not a Trekkie, you'll be one after you see this movie, or I'll know the reason why!!! I want to see it again!!!

This incarnation provided exactly what the franchise needed...ACTION from start to finish. The best feature was the complete lack of modern political correctness that has been shoved down our throats in the past. The sole downside for me was the Star Wars-esq Ewok-like companion of Scotty's. I just didn't need that. With the way it ended and the best cast in years, this could be a long lived marriage!

I was skeptical when I heard that they were releasing a Star Trek movie. How were they going to remake a classic? To my surprise, they surpassed my expectations. Now I'm not a major fan Star Trek fan, but this movie changed that otherwise. The visual effects were amazing. The sound was on point. This movie definitely had me at the edge of my seat at times. The story was well written. I would say that J.J. Abrams really out did himself this time. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I highly recommend that you do a.s.a.p.

I'm so glad I saw this movie! The actors were great, the story was well done in my mind, the visuals were jaw dropping, and combined with a great score this movie just rocked! Haven't seen many Star Treks, but this one makes me want to become a Treckie now. Highly recomend this film to others!
