Wow, did this movie take me back to the beginning of it all! I was in on the launching of the Enterprise 'way back when it first showed up on TV!
It was so much fun to hear the old, familiar original lines, like "D--n it, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a ...!" and "Captain, she's giving it all she's got!" Simon Pegg was fab as Scottie. And Bones' younger self could have been one of McCoy's true offspring! Good job, guys & gals! Loved it!

The action and characters were very well done. The story line was not what I expected. I have been a trekky for over 30 years. I was disappointed in Uhura and Spock being together. Spocks Vulcan training would not have allowed those types of responses to a human female.

The bedroom scene, what did this have to do with the movie? That part messed it up for me, it was the downfall of the whole movie. The rest of the movie was fair in my books due to this scene. A guy on top of a green girl in her underclothes, & her friend entering, taking off her sweater, get real! This was just a judgement of very poor taste. Ruins it as a family film.

Roddenberry would have been thrilled to see this iteration of his creation.
We saw this at the AMC Suites in Kansas City, and we'd also like to give two enthusiastic thumbs up for this experience. It was $20, with $10 of that as vouchers for the seat-side food service. Oh, and the seats? Fully reclineable red leather. The house was sold out... which means maybe 30 people were in the room. It was the best movie experience I've had in years!
The only downside was the volume of the ads before the main feature (mostly for TV shows we'd never watch... we don't have TV).

First of all, I am no way a big Star Trek fan. I have seen a few episodes of the original series, but have never been a regular viewer. I thought this movie was fantastic! You don't have to be a Star Trek junkie to follow the storyline. You will recognize a few names and a familiar face, but that is it. Yes, I was skeptical going in, but I WILL purchase this when released on DVD. It's one heck of a ride. Full of action and thrills!

This movie comes in near the top of the list of Trek movies, though not the best. The movie takes us back to before Capt. James T. Kirk's birth (well actually to his birth) and an alternate version of history thanks to some Romulans. In this timeline, Kirk's father dies and young James becomes a bit of a rebel. Jump ahead to Starfleet Academy and the fun really starts. Star Trek takes advantage of every opportunity to re-introduce us to our favorite characters. Its fun, and there are definitely some funny moments. It's done well, and I only realized that it was funny after the movie - since these were many of the moments that I remember the best from the movie. Overall; Star Trek is a solid movie, with a good story, and great characters.

This "prequel" (you'll have to see it to understand the quotation marks - I won't spoil it), did not disappoint in any way. Our girls loved it too, and they're not Trekkies by any means. The action was great, the fx were excellent, and the actors matched up to the characters very well. I especially liked the actor playing McCoy. He obviously studied DeForest Kelly in TOS. Wish we could've seen it in IMAX.

I have been watching Star Trek since it first aired on TV and have seen all of the movies, so I wanted to introduce my grandchildren to the pre-Star Wars space adventure. They enjoyed it. My 6 year old grandson who is a full blown Star Wars fanatic couldn't stop talking about all of the action scenes.
It is just as expected. The actors were well matched to the original characters. I could see the original actors vividly in the ones selected to play their parts.

It was good. You could actualy see the characters develop. I am a fan of the old Star Trek so it was fun to see them as youngsters. I thought that Zachary Quinto as Spock was an excellent choice. I would tell anyone to see it.

I have been watching Star Trek since I was very young. The storyline was what a beginning Star Trek storyline would be for any Star Trek series, with character development.
The actors portraying previously portrayed characters did an exceptional job with making you believe they were those characters, while bringing their own spin to the table.
I was on the edge of my seat through the movie, I have seen it twice already.

I enjoyed this movie soo much.. I love spock's character, Kirk was just as expected.. all the characters where perfect. I love that the original spock was in the movie.. this movie hit all the right notes. the action, drama, comedy.. I took my kids to watch this movie also and they can't stop talking about it .

There were a few things in this film that didnt make any sense but, as a whole, this film is a worthy successor to the franchise.
While time dilation may not exist in the universe this film takes place in, and while black holes used for transportation to the past destroyed the bad guy at the end instead of transporting him further into the past, other plot holes in this film were far less noticeable.
As with several other franchise films this season, Star Trek offered several "shout outs" to previous installments of its franchise. These were mostly pointless and seemed to serve the singular purpose of indicating that the script writers had at least read a wiki article about the franchise before writing the script.

I enjoyed the original TV series but I was not a fanatic. The storyline, acting and special effects were superb and it definately makes me want to see the next installment. The way the writers connected the old to the new was ingenious and seemed perfectly plausible in 2009. The new "younger" Captain Kirk and Spock were fabulous. The ultimate risk taker in the ruggedly good-looking Kirk complemented by Spock who finaly figures out he is neither Vulcan or Human - but the best of both.
This is entertainment for EVERYONE!

This movie was fun to watch. The actors manage to put their own stamp on the characters while still being faithful to the spirit of the original. The special effects are awesome, though the Enterprise looks a bit like an art deco version of the original. If the movie comes up short, it's the plot, which doesn't try too hard to be believable. The rise of the characters to senior staff positions is impossibly meteoric, and Kirk's meeting with the elder Spock seems contrived. Still, this movie is much more about establishing the characters and getting them into their rightful places aboard Enterprise. I think Abrams managed quite a feat--making a movie for the masses while not alienating the base of followers.

Just when you thought there was no more life in the Star Wars franchise, the franchisor does it again. This "prequel" manages to stand on its' own as an excellent movie while it also clarifies many of the things that happen in the previous movies in the series.
Whether or not you're a Star Wars fan, this movie is worth seeing!

My son and I 37 and 64 respectively saw the new Star Trek last night - neither of us are Trekies - great movie and a great foundation for a renewed francise - great story line and VERY well done replacement of the old guard - good stuff - the theater that we were in had people sitting in the aisles (at least until the ushers got there)

As a baby boomer I grew up on the original series. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, despite all that technology has to offer these days. But it was MUCH better than I had expected. A great timeline for followers of the original series!

J. J. Abrams does it again. He's produced something that can appeal to the masses. I'm far from a Trekkie, but my roommate was growing up. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, from overall plot and character development to the special effects. My roommate concurs, in addition to the "wrinkles" that were thrown in to connect to the original series. Mr. Abrams, you've got yourself a winner!
