Abrams nails the Star Trek concept! I enjoyed every minute of this movie and would like to see more story lines in the future. Lots of action and I will plan to see it again, this time in IMAX.

This gave a whole new dimension to the characters we've all come to know over the years. Some die hard Trekkies probably won't like the way the plot develops but we have to realize that the movie studio is trying to appeal to a current audience. Given that I think the story line stays pretty true to the Star Trek saga. And of course the fact that Leonard Nimoy is in the movie also boost the credibility.
Overall this is just a good movie that all would enjoy in my humble opinion.

The whole family totally enjoyed this movie. Not really a Star Trek fan beforehand, but the reboot was VERY well done. Thought the characters were cast perfectly and the comedy elements, especially from Simon Pegg were a good fit into the story.

From an old school Trekie: Not a bad film by itself, a couple of minor inconsistencies, disappointing as a prequel.
What makes a prequel interesting is that you learn how your favorite characters developed, and why they do what they do. The difficulty is in keeping the facts straight. The prequel needs to adhere to the history already presented and the characters can't know about things they will learn about in the original.
Once you establish that the film is an "alternate universe" that all goes out the window, the characters may as well be completely different people. That is when the story took the wind out of the sails for me, after that it was mildly entertaining but lost the emotional attachment I had up until that point.

I never watched the show but this movie was still really awesome. I got slightly confused in the middle but a star trek fan totally understood. I read someone say somewhere "If you are a star trek fan this was a truly awesome fan but if you never watched the show it's just a really good movie" and that's true. Even if you never watched the show it's still worth seeing.

I'll get this out of the way, overall the movie was good, 3.5/5 - with qualifications. It has serious continuity issues. Things that have been done previously in the ST timeline (such as warp5) are shown here as being difficult. Transporting to a ship at warp, okay, I'll dig - but after the ship has been travelling for god knows how long? We have a good idea of what transporter ranges are by the time of ST:TNG - so how can they be orders of magnitude greater hundreds of years in the past - even with spocks future knowledge. I found some of the tidbits that related to previoius series like Enterprise (Archer's beagle, Captain Pike) funny - even if no one else got them. Why did they have to change the phaser effect? Still good overall

This was a lot of fun for us old fans and a lot of action for the new ones. It does set itself up for more movies or a series, but I kind of expected that. Still it was a good watch and kept enough of the old formulas and character types without being a parody of it's former self. While at the same time, giving the new cast enough wiggle room to become something more in the future. Again, a fun sci-fi and action film.

We don't go to the movies very often, so we found the audio very loud - will bring ear plugs next time. Overall the movie was good (after all it was Star Trek!), but the CG got to be a little busy and hard to keep up with. Too much action packed into too little time. The Jim Kirk 'beginnings' theme was entertaining for those of us who have kept up with this story from day one. It's too bad William Shatner didn't have a cameo appearance like Leanord Nimoy.

I'm obviously in the minority here I think but I really didn't like the movie. The movie has a large number of plot WTF's as well as some pretty huge Deus Ex Machinia moments. Too, it never lets you breath, constantly hitting you with another big explosion/fight scene. The acting is well done and the CGI pretty, but the story is predictable and had no heart. Just couldn't get into it.

THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE THIS YEAR!!!!!!! I was afraid that JJ Abrams would mess this one up but I was pleasantly surprised! This movie can hold it's own against the original series and due to the storyline, it is it's own. Bones was channeled well, too! I have had the pleasure of seeing this movie FOUR TIMES and it is still GREAT!

was well worth the money and wasnt near wut i expected, i was thinking remake, but boy was i wrong, this is an entirely new star trek great all round movie, great actors, my son and i had a blast, laughed, sighed, gasped, and heart fluttering action throughout the entire show, i would recommend anyone to see this movie atleast once, ya dont even have to be a star trek fan to like this one. props to the director and major props to the special effects team. best movie like this since the new star war's movies, cant wait for a part 2, attack of the klingons maybe??? not even sure if i spelled them right lol regardless, totally exceeded my expectations, i was blown away as well was my 13 yr old son

Well, you can tell right off the bat that Leonard Nimoy had a quite a bit of say in the production of this picture and that it was sort of a "handing-off" to the new younger cast for him. However, I think that actually added much strength to the movie as you were able to see how amazing of a job the new actors did portraying the original characters we all know and love, but also with their own tough of orginality. I'm already excited for the next movie!!!

My first movie days were in the 1940s and 50s. The white hats always won and there was a message too. The only thing different in Star Trek was the helmets were white. A really good whimsical 2 hours for the whole family.

I must admit that I entered this movie with much trepidation as re-boots can be painful. In the end, I very much enjoyed the movie. Excellent character development. The time also seemed to fly by. I would rank this as the second best Trek film, still behind the classic, the Wrath of Khan.
I look forward to the next films. Much like Iron Man, the first movie was more about the characters than the action with the villain as a device just to get everyone together. Now that we know the people, it will be time to move out across the galaxy.

This was a perfect segway from the first generation to the present one. Much-deserved reverance and respect was obviously paid to Leonard Nimoy, who more than likely had his last opportunity to do the closing voice over. A real tribute to him. The young new actors have stepped well into the huge shoes they had to fill to satisfy long-term trekkies, while giving their roles new life and much-needed youthfulness to appeal to potential new fans. Great introduction to new sequence of movies to come. Spock was my personal favorite of the new cast of actors. Looking so forward to the next installment...

I went into this movie with a mix of hope and trepidation. I'd heard so many good things about it, I figured it couldn't be that bad. But I also hated the thought of someone restarting a franchise I'd loved for so many years. JJ Abrams has done so many other great shows, and he doesn't dissapoint here. The special effects, the acting, the character arc...all excellent. The movie does a wonderful job of setting the stage by investing the watcher in the characters early...and then it doesn't let up. Action, suspense, drama...all there. I was quite impressed.

The casting agent should get an Oscar - everyone in the movie was superb. Althugh I thought the plot was weak, I sincerely enjoyed the ride and the back stories on the crew members. The special effects were very good as well as the sweeping visual effects. Hopefully the next installment will have a strong plot with the same cast.

This was a great movie!! I was concerned that it would be a let-down. I liked the original series as a kid, and loved the movies and other series. So, I wanted more of the same, but I also wanted more.
This movie delivered. A couple of the characters (Spock and McCoy) were so convincing that I almost thought they really were the younger versions of the original characters. But they were much more robust versions of the originals. So much more interesting.
The action was good, the effects wonderful, and the humor funny. I felt it was just a well rounded, great movie. And the fact that I felt like I already knew the characters was a bonus.
Don't miss this movie!!!

Star Trek is a good movie, with plenty of action, decent character development, some sentimentality, and a splash of humor. The "alternate history" premise is intriguing, but I found it somewhat disturbing that it seemed as if the composition of the Enterprise crew was inevitable or somehow destined. Of course, I'm happy to see all the principal characters in their roles, but if things are really different, I would appreciate additional significant characters in future installments of this new "series," especially more female characters. Also, frankly, I was hoping for more explicit depictions of Captain Kirk in his escapades with the ladies, than was understandably permissible on the original TV show.

Although I wasn't a huge fan of the original series (preferring Next Generation instead), my wife and I decided to see what the fuss was about.
We both loved it. The mixture of action, suspense, comedy and nostalgia for the original series was awesome. The movie started quickly and then went even faster from there.
The actors nailed the quirks and personalities of the original characters, and the movie left me wishing the entire series could be redone in a more modern fashion with the new cast.
This was a movie that didn't bow in homage to the trekkies, and didn't take itself too seriously. In fact, the actors showed far more range and seemed to be more into their roles.
I'll be buying this DVD!

Really nice special effects and sound! The movie took a twist a couple of times and if you didn't pay attention you can get confused.
It was really good to see Lenard Nimoy fit into the movie it would have been even better to see William Shatner as well, or at least to hear him record the ships log at the end of the movie.
Overall I can't wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray and wait to see if there is another one in the making. GO SEE IT! It's worth it!
