It was a great new take on an old standard. You didn't have to be a Star Trek aficionado to enjoy it. References to the old series weren't over the top and the characters have lives and personalities of their own.
Plot line was good although it did leave a few major questions unanswered (What is red matter?) This movie certainly opens the door for a new series of movies for this franchise.

Excellent. Using new, non "Big Name" actors did not distract from the story line or action... Also the staging and action appeared very realistic!!! (Few flaws.) I'm re-inspired and looking forward to the sequences...

We really enjoyed this movie. True Trek fans can enjoy the introduction of these classic characters and new fans will find them entertaining and likeable. The movie was truly fun to watch.

I'm not usually a sci-fi fan, but of course, ST is the exception. Liked it so well that I used my 13 year old granddaughter as an excuse to see it again. She loved it, and caught the references made to the original series.

As a Star Trek fan cannon is important to me. The notion of an alternate timeline and how this impact TOS conflicts me. And what of Vulcan?
The plot was typical but it was good to see the real Mr. Spock bridge the story line. Chris Pine did a good job of playing a young Kirk. Uhara ruled! I would like to see a Star Trek TV series with these folks!
When Capt. Chris Pike was captaining the Enterprise I thought to myself maybe they should have made the Star Trek film about the adventures of Capt. Christopher Pike and his crew (yes including Spock and a female #1). Wished it was less "Cloverfield" like and more suspenseful - know what I mean?

I am proud to be a 51 y.o. female, who sat on the edge of my wheelchair for the entire 2 hrs & 6 min!!!
I've seen all the TV shows. However, the excitement of TOS is unequaled. It had me running home from school to do my homework so not to miss an episode!
That nostalgia & my respect for J.J.Abrams are the main reasons I felt confident that THIS Star Trek movie would outshine some of its predicessors
I coerced my 18 & 20 yr olds to the 1st showing @ 7p May 7. So how do I get back to see it again?!
What can I say? I'll tell you! The effects ARE out of this world, the actors amazing, and a plot so well written even I couldn't figure it out!
In conclusion, it's NOT your mothers' Star Trek..., it's BETTER!!!

This movie tops the scale in the Star Trek Universe, It had everything you look for in a Big Block buster of a show, Adventure, Drama, comedey and one turn after another, the chacter introductions was great and I felt it even filled in that of which I was wanting to know for years, a little history on the youth of the Crew and how they got together. That all put together topped the cake for me, Beautiuflly made version of the Trek Vers and must see for all.. Thank you. RC

Absolutely stunning revitalization of the Star Trek property. It was nice and gritty in a way that previous movies didn't achieve and the casting was spot on. Only downsides are that they've basically thrown away the playbook now with the whole time-warp thing and they threw in at least one deus ex machina moment to make everything work. Still, I'm giving this one a tie with Wrath of Khan for best Star Trek movie.

Not being a particularly big Star Trek fan, I decided to see this movie primarily because I had already seen the others of merit that were playing...what a great surprise. The story, cast and special effects combine to make this one of the best movies I have seen this year; much better, in fact, than several that were much more hyped. Chris Pine was a perfect choice for the young Kirk. He leads the cast in a tale that grips you from the moment the movie starts, and holds on until long after you have left the theater...go see it!

I know that I am a huge Trekkie, but I gotta tell ya.....this movie was awesome ! From start to the very end I was not disappointed. Full of action, true to the history of the original series, phenominal actors (everyone was very believable as to who they portrayed). I would give this movie 3 thumbs up if I had an extra thumb !

When I first heard that this movie was coming out I was not going to hold my breath waiting for it to come out. The thought of a prequel to the days of Kirk & Spock sounded like old news. But I have to eat my words. As always it Star Trek delivered! I hear two more are in the works. I can't wait. This is not the old Star Trek. This is a first class Science Fiction movie.

I have been a fan of Star Trek since the original television show and love the movies. It was quite obvious to me that the characters really studied the series and the movies for the little mannerisms that fans have come to love. Chekov's inability to speak certain letters, Kirk's glare, Spock's eyebrow raise and "fascinating." I thoroughly enjoyed how all the characters were introduced into the plot. The action sequences were teriffic. This movie is great escapism. Go see this movie! We took our 16 y.o. niece who knows nothing about Star Trek. She enjoyed it just for what it was, without understanding all the background. Finally, that they added a cameo of Leonard Nimoy was wonderful!

Being an old fan of the movies, as well as the various series over the years, I really enjoyed this movie a lot. I was impressed by the entire cast, especially the performance by Karl Urban as McCoy.

Star Trek brings us the beginnings of the Enterprise crew. Abrams remarkably kept the spirit & camaraderie of original cast. This movie will definitely bring new fans to the series. The movie stands alone – U Don't need to be a Trekkie to enjoy. Keeps to the original Star Trek tenets, but delivered in a "Star Wars" type blockbuster. Also action packed & funny. Amazing casting, Chemistry between the characters is fabulous. Mesmerizing & unforgettable opening sequence. Leonard Nimoy cemented film together: "I have been & always shall be your friend" was as powerful as in "Wrath of Kahn" (Highly recommended movie). Star Trek is an amazing movie that will capture you from the beginning & leave you wanting more in the end. When’s the next one?

I enjoyed the movie, the plot was a good twist to get to 'present' day Star Trek (TV series).
I especially like the the Bones and Scotty characters has they stayed pretty much to the original characters.

This new Trek was a mind-blowing experience. The actors were amazing and brought each of the icons they were playing to life. Chris Pine oozed cockiness and leadership, Zachacy Quinto made you feel Spock's inner turmoil and conflicted emotions and Karl Urban WAS "Bones" McCoy. The rest of the cast was, pardon the pun, stellar. Zoe Saldana brought a great charm and intelligence to Uhura, John Cho exhibited his swordsmanship and humor and the oh so young Alton Yelchin played Chckov's accent up in a believable manner yet got to show off his mad science skills. Special kudos to Bruce Greenwood for bringing Captain Christopher Pike to life and being a mentor to the rebellious young Kirk.

I'm not a big Star Trek fan. My mom watched it when I was a kid so I was basically forced to sit through it if I wanted to watch TV at all. I only went to see the movie to appease my husband and I honestly have to say that I really enjoyed it. It was really well done and it wasn't a cheesey remake. The staff that chooses the cast members did an excellent job.
