I am a Star Trek Fan and this movie was great. The casting of the younger characters was spot on! It of course opens new story lines since they now have a alternate reality.

I'm not really a huge Star Trek fan and wasn't sure what to expect from this movie. I thought it could end up being rather cheesy. I was certainly mistaken. The story, the acting and the special effects were all amazing. JJ Abrams really did a wonderful job in providing the necessary background, etc to tie the whole story together. The use of virtual unknowns in the majority of roles was a perfect choice. A star studded cast would not have provided the same result for this movie.
I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone. Even if they aren't a Star Trek fan. I look forward to a sequel.

The special effects are good. With the exception of Kirk and Spock, the characters are not fleshed out. If you think well of the original Star Trek movie, you may not like this one - I didn't. The move has to have one of the most absurd ideas for a weapon ever ... Red Matter. You have to be kidding!! If you can ignore eveything Star Trek in the past 40 some years, it's a passable movie.

It provides a good introduction to all the famous characters. I would recommend seeing this film. Laughs, action, suspense, thrills, explosions, peril, and a couple foul words nothing gross. Try and see if you recognize Winona Ryder.

The new Star Trek combines terrific visual and tech elements with an engaging human drama in the well-portrayed interpersonal relationships between the main characters, especially that of Kirk & Spock. My wife, possibly a sci fi hater, loved it, said it kept her onthe edge of her seat throughout. Not bad.

I grew up watching Shatner, Nimoy, et al on TV in the original series. Sure it was cheesy and low-tech but it was hopeful and lots of fun. It was the first show to address many social & political issues. But as the pot bellies grew and the sequels multiplied, a Star Trek movie was no longer an anticipated event. JJ Abrams new take on the Star Trek story blew me away. It was great storytelling even without the Star Trek mantle. Good plot, good villains, great SFX. On top off that he was innovative without being disrespectful to the original. The actors gave us the essence of the original characters without imitation or mockery. There were enough winks for those of us old enough to be part of the Star Trek generation. Fun, fast and fabulous!

Probably the best Star Trek Movie yet, excepting maybe the Wrath of Khan. Admittedly, this is not saying a lot. A solid and large cast, which is always better than trying to hang the movie on 1 or 2 actors. Clever how they manage to keep it open for a whole new series of sequels. Not sure that they achieved the Kirk-Spock-McCoy dynamic of the original, but they sure tried hard. MORAL: If you want to be invited back for the movie, don't get fat.

I love the new Star Trek movie! It has everything a very good sci-fi/'space movie' should have. Importantly, it successfully reinvents Star Trek - a huge accomplishment.
So glad and relieved this movie is this good. The past decade was a troubled time for Star Trek. Against big odds, this movie is great.
This is a bit of a different take on Star Trek. It messes with The Legend some, but that’s ok. And no big visionary message. The driving force is a very primitive, human one- acted out by aliens. That's also always been a Star Trek hallmark. Doing very human stuff in outer space.
The result is a wild ride that makes for a perfect summer blockbuster, a Trek movie that ranks with the best of them. Trek’s Back!

Tailgate up: Great chemistry; lots of action and visual gymnastics; not too heavy for the kids; and for nailing the mannerisms of Shatner, Nimoy, Kelly, Doohan, et al. Great character development of young Spock.
Tailgate down: Mecha-loud soundtrack (I felt like the "Is it live or is it Memorex?" dude); but another time travel, revenge script (sigh); the alternate reality pimpin' Spock; and lack of humanism that Roddenberry intended for the franchise.
Bottom line: Fun for adults and kids and just worth the price of admission ($26 per person - make Tommy Tow Truck so sad).

Each of the characters played their previous counterparts to a T! I'm not real sure of the romantical aspects of Spock, though. Although, in the earlier original episodes, Spock was loud if I recall. I'm ready to see the sequel! You know there's gonna be one! And I'll buy it when it comes out on DVD!

This is a wonderful movie whether you are a trekkie or not. I got so caught up in the story, that it felt shorter than 2 hours. However, this is not a movie that you can walk out of to use the restroom, the story is too complext to turn away from for any length of time.

I thought it was a great portrayal of the original crew of the Enterprise. The look and the feel of the film was excelent from start to finish. But, what do you do with the new time line? All that these charactors were, their friendships, their triumphs and failures were from one time line. Now who will they be? I hope the saga will continue . . . . .

Thoroughly entertaining - if you are a Trekkie or even just a fan,; others may not enjoy it as much as they will not understand some of the humor and irony. But special effects are great, and the story is enjoyable enough as is. Would have loved to have seen Shatner in a cameo; great to see Nimoy.

Brilliantly took the characters and storylines and updated them, opening a whole new future experience for new and original Star Trek fans. We were almost sorry for younger fans who possibly missed the subtle references to the original series happenings. The actors portrayals of the young characters and nuances of who they would become was spot on.

I really enjoyed this film, I went with my mother who grew up watching Star Trek and she thought this was a brilliant remake. I highly recommend the film. Though I saw it in a relatively small theatre, the graphics were amazing!

I know there were misgivings by a lot of Trekkers about this movie,and I'm sure some of them might not like the direction it went in, but for me, I think this movie was first of all very accessible to both Trekkers and people unfamiliar with the Star Trek universe. It was a much-needed infusion of new blood, away from spin-offs and the same-old-same-old. I particularly thought the castings was genius, even if liberties were taken. Acting was superb. CGI - amazing and yet not overwhelming with explosions and action sequences. A nice balance between action and interpersonal scenes. The tone was uplifting and positive without being wholesome and stupid. I really like what they've done with Spock, although many might not agree.

I am a old "Trekkie" and have really only liked the Star Trek with the original cast. The special effects were fantastic. and the new Spock was great. Only on detail nurse Chapel had the hots for Spock not Uhura!! The new Scottie was a riot and all the rest of the cast. This is a must see again!!
