It was a great movie. It is rare to hear clapping at the end of a movie. This one got applause from the audience. The revised characters are enjoyable and entertaining. There was much special effects, but what movie doesn't have effects. There was much action and tension with Spock and Uhura. This was a nice switch-up with the normal Kirk adventures.

Star Trek was awesome. Both hubby & I loved it. We loved the new younger cast portraying our favorites. They were all amazingly well played. Especially Mr. Scotty & Bones. Having seen Chris Pine in Princess Diaries and Bottle Shock, do quite well in supporting roles, it was wonderful to see him 'shine' in a lead role. He's quite the hottie. (of course I thought that in Bottle Shock too...next to Alan Rickman of course). It was great to see Leonard in this film as well as he adds a great balance to the story line. All in all... this is a great summer movie!

I'm not a hard-core Trekker, but I have watched Star Trek in all its various forms since the original series. This was a very well-done film that should please fans and non-fans alike. Great action, great acting and plenty of humor spark a time-travel story (yes, with all of its paradoxes) that you should not waste a lot of thought on but rather just go along for the ride. If you remember your favorite characters fondly, you will love Karl Urban's Bones McCoy. I sincerely hope JJ Abrams is back on board as director for the next installment. Go see it, and live long and prosper!

As a big fan of the Star Trek labels, I went into this movie with more than a bit of skepticism. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself getting attached to these characters...I just wasn't expecting that. They did a great job overall with the movie, and I could truly see them starting another line from these actors/characters.

One of the best movies I have ever seen, right up there with Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars for adventure, action, fun and drama. It was made by the same people who make the hit TV show Lost so it's no wonder this movie is so creative and perfect! Star Trek is this generation's Star Wars!

Agree with randomom. Too many special effects, violence, bloody scenes. More like Star Wars, yuk. Capt Kirk actor overplayed his part. Other actors also, too cheesy, Spock makeup was poorly done. There's more.....but you get the point.
AND THE RAVE THEATER PLAYED IT TOO LOUD!!! MY EARS ARE STILL RINGING THE NEXT DAY!! TOTALLY UNNECESSARY!

The Star Trek ensemble of characters--Capt Kirk and his crew--has always been unbeatable, and now you get to learn how they came together. The action is tops, special effects super, plot is both character- and action-driven, and there's humor peppered throughout. Very entertaining.

While it is action packed and the special effects are great I thought the story line was weak and the acting is nothing to rave about.
The inconsistancy were too distracting and the story line diverges too much from what we "know" of Kirk and Spock's past. This movie is trading on the franchise without adding to it. In fact it detracts from the total Star Trek experience.
A must miss in my opinion

I love the Star Trek movies and this movie was so much better than I had anticipated. The action kept me on the edge of my seat. The movie was funny. Loved how the use of the sayings from the old shows and movies was woven in. I would go see this again and will be first in line for the DVD.

It's enough to say that, as other reviewers have exclaimed, I and my kids found the movie immensely enjoyable. The great attraction of the original series was the mixture of science fiction fun and meaningful characterizations. The plots in Star Trek (unlike the overweening though attractive Star Wars franchise) have always explored quandries, ethical dilemmas, the weighing of outcomes and means, and so helped to frame ordinary human experience in the way of the best myths. Thanks to the writers and others who made the film; I hope they continue to provide the same quality in their subsequent efforts.

Other than nostalgic childhood memories of the original series, I'm not really a trekie, but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Special effects, plot, and even some of the acting exceeded expectations.

I haven't been so excited about Star Trek since the first series appeared.
This film is wriiten true to the original form, from the the storyline, right down to the bantering between the main characters!
The actors are clones of the originals, and they play their parts true to form.
My wife does not like sci-fi, and even she was laughing and cheering during the movie! After the film, she told me that she really enjoyed it. "Why couldn't all sci fi movies be like that?" she asked.
THIS IS A MUST SEE FOR TREKKIES AND NON TREKKIES ALIKE!
If you are not a trekkie, you will be by the end of this film.
I can't wait for the next one!

This is absolutely a fantastic movie although it is not a perfect rendition of the star trek we have come to know. for instance in the series spocks mother is alive for quite sometime, as does the planet vulcan still exist. but this is still wonderful and very enjoyable to watch. I do not know who all these young actors are but I give them two thumbs up great job folks. I believe for the most part the characters were very well represented. I would highly recomend for any sci-fi fan to go see this movie it is really great.

I had this huge fear that the new movie was gonna 'jerk' up the crew. You know, these recent Hollywood revisions have a way of turning good guys into jerks. And in the first 20 minutes that is exactly what happens. After that, however, it is full blown Trek with the new Brat Pack crew doing their best to keep the inspiration of the original cast alive.
Although it does not explore any strange new worlds, seek out new life or civilizations, or go where any Trek film has not gone before, this new Star Trek offers the most adventure and character punch than any action film since the original Die Hard 20 years ago.
J.J. Abrams did the impossible after 45 years, 5 TV series and 11 movies: he made us want more.

Went with a quartet of retirees, and we loved it! Learning about the past of the crew, and how they came together was great fun, but also left us wanting to see them together again. The special effects were excellent, but no overdone gore or transformer-type creatures thank goodness. Terrific cast and great chemistry between them. Loved the beginning; loved the ending. Now we want more!

My wife and I have an arrangement. No... Not THAT kind of arrangement....
She will tolerate one (1) summer blockbuster action film, for two (2) thought provoking, or foreign, or chick flicks in return. It is a reasonable arrangement as I also enjoy good film making.
We both enjoyed Star Trek so much, I got a free pass without additional chick flick penalty. Woohoo!
It's a really good movie with simple, clean plot lines, good effects, lots of action... but (except for the big bug) generally in support of the plot.

fast paces, great acting, believable dialog and character motivations. i totally suspended all belief in reality and went wherever they led me. wonderful performances by all! i am not a trekkie- but folowed the story and loved the fact that they found actors who could bring the old characters to life in a new and fresh way.
visually appealing, gripping battle scenes- you won't regret seeing this and might want to go again immediately after!
