This movie strikes the right chord between the heady philosophy set by Star Trek the television series and the head spinning action we come to expect from a "Star Wars" movie. It was a little jarring to see "Sylar" play Spock; and as always, movies with time travel has a built in confusion factor. But all in all, a great flick!

Great, great, great. I grew up watching Star Trek almost nightly and although I grew tired of it after a time, it will always be one of those memorable shows of my youth.
This movie was able to combine some of the elements of the show which made it successful such as the chemistry of the crew members and the storylines with great special effects and a superior young cast as well as bringing back IMHO the best actor from the series Leonard Nimoy.
I really loved this movie and can't wait for the next in this franchise to come out!

If you are looking for true story lines from old star trek, you will be disappointed badly. The bad, they had no reverence nor tried to stay true to the old histories of the original star trek. The name is the only thing the same along with the character names. However, great action, great CGI, interesting character development. Every one of the main characters was developed differently. Not along their original character traits. Good movie. Different Star Trek. Not bad for an updated old Sci Fi story. Worth the money and diversion. Enjoy. RH

Although I am not an astute Star Trek follower, I appreciated how this movie combined believable characters with a visionary future. The use of special effects complemented the story line without dominating the action. This cast can take Star Fleet in a new direction at warp speed.

What an incredible movie! I'm a big fan of the series and Nancy's never seen them. We BOTH loved it. It was exciting and well done. The characters were perfectly chosen and the story was fun and enjoyable. We'd highly recommend the movie to everyone.

What an amazing cast, and fantastic direction by J.J. Abrams. I really look forward to the next installment in the series. I wasn't even much of a star trek fan prior to seeing this one. I think I just may become one now.

JJ Abrams and the writers have done a great job taking Star Trek and making it work for a whole new generation. The acting we great, great chemistry, great effects, fun, didn't take itself too seriously, yet seriously enough, didn't look at my watch at all, which is unusual these days (I did even for Terminator 4). The quotes and mimics of the original characters were both entertaining and pleasantly accurate. it was clear everyone enjoyed themselves on set. Bravo.

I have seen this movie twice now and recommend it highly. Fans of the old Trek will rejoice, and this movie does a nice job of introducing itself to a new generation of potential fans. Bring on the sequels.

Warp Factor 10 +. That's the projectionile speed for this power flick, not 24 frames per second.
This partial reboot prequel delivers beautifully on every level. Writing, direction, acting, effects, art direction etc. I think you get the rest.
Plot line not the most original, but told with the great pernash. Main characters stunningly recreated and played out.
Looking to continue to boldly go where no one has before - ad infinitum.

This was a very good movie. The characters were more or less in spirit with the original cast. Chris Pine as Kirk was okay but you wonder where the vocal delivery of Shatner was and because with it he could have really sold the idea of him as a young Kirk. Mccoy, Sulu, Chekov, Urhru, Spock were true to the orginals and Scotty was a great pick. All in all, a very good show with fantastic special effects, even if the screen was pretty busy at times.

I went with my mom to see this movie & we both loved it. When I was little I would stay up late & watch Star Trek with her, so I could really appreciate how well the actors in this movie potrayed the original actors. Great Job! Looking forward to the next movie.

Great movie, it set up all the characters well, unlike other movies, It wasnt campy like the original, but it put in all the references & all the idiocyncracies that made the show a cult hit. You didnt have to be a trekkie to understand & enjoy.

Captured perfectly the spirit of the old series. The time travel 'alternate reality' plot left us lukewarm and wondering why only certain aspects were played up and others ignored or diminished.
We would see this again in a purchase DVD.
Overall, though, very true to the characters in the original Star Trek. Gene Roddenberry would have been pleased with the outcome.

I was an original Trekkie, I went to the very first convention in NY City so I can consider myself an expert in Star Trek and all the related products. This was an excellent movie, the only thing that I am disappointed in that I did not see in in the Imax version, physically cannot see any Imax movies, oh well. The soundtrack was a little overpowering at times, and I am not sure that the ice planet scene was that necessary for the introduction of another character so important to the movie. But overall, it was much better than the last several Star Trek movies released and hopefully many more will be forthcoming.

Altho actors’ performances--skillful and impressive, esp Eric Bana's, 45 minutes of redundant film would have been enuf. Director’s camera random & unrevealing; spec effects unrelated to film's theme; gratuitous violence, esp against Kirk; narrative repeats at least 3 other franchise films: good man driven 2 revenge by Kirk (or Spock) for demise of family. Worst part of very disappointing film is score; outdoes John Williams: calls attention to itself instead of contributing to film's themes, action or char development. Really tired of Rambo lack of anger managmnt male fantasies. Star Trek has great tradition of imaginative, ethical & thought-provoking storytelling. Film looked like resume building. Hire writers & producers like DC Fontana.
