Older fans of the original series and movies wont dig this one too much. There are serious facts that dont line up. The characters are quickly introduced and thrown together in a VERY sloppy manner along with a story that is predictable and anticlimatic. The time travel aspect and the presence of "old Spock" is confusing and TOTALLY unnecessary. Visually the movie is fantastic and has some fun moments so it is definately worth a look. Just realize that Hollywood nowadays has NO integrity and No ability to dig into the hearts of the people to whom this film matters most.

The glowing reviews are 100% accurate. Being a diehard trekkie and a devote kirk & spock (mostly spock <3) fan I thought Pines & Quinto nailed it! The plot was fantastic & I didn't think there was a slow spot. It started with a bang & ended with things wrapped up perfectly! The backgrounds on both Kirk and Spock were excellent with a minor critique on them spending more time on kirk. i feared out of place goofiness from Pegg but he kept it in check. the supporting cast was excellent and made it their own :D Great effects, awesome music, witty banter, tons of stuff there for trekkies. loved it and will be seeing it again! JJ Abrams fully delivered an exceptional movie!

Star Trek was outstanding!!! I'm am probably going to go see it again. If left me wanting so much more. Only complaint, even thought it was 2hours and 5 minuets long, it felt to short believe it or not.

Every time this film made a reference to the series or other Trek films, the audience applauded. The film and the audience were totally in sync with each other.
The special effects didn't feel at all like special effects.
Time issues? Of course -- and I enjoyed every moment!
I loved every character, but I do have favorites - Simon Pegg as Scotty, Karl Urban as McCoy and Zachary Quinto as Spock. (His first utterance of "Live long and prosper" brought a whole new depth to the phrase.)
Pay attention for cameos (or is it just small roles?) for Winona Ryder and Jennifer Morrison
There will be more of this continuing mission . . .

OK, First, I have to say, WOW... what I HAVE seen of the movie was great... that said, when we got to the part where they are doing their basejump - style freefall, there was an announcement that there was a Tornado Warning, and they stopped the film!!! GRR. A cop drove by the front of the building and yelled "Tell Management to Evacuate the Building!" ok, Dunno about you guys, but the wife and I didn't stick around long - we got out to our car, and began our 30+ mile drive home - THROUGH some of the worst rain/hail combo I have experienced. Boy, never a dull moment... Oh Well, at least we will get to see the first half of the movie again! that's something to look forward to...at least we are safe...

That pretty much sums up the whole movie. It was the greatest movie by far in years. I watched most of the old star trek movies and thought this one matched them perfectly. I also liked how they threw in a few unexpected things that were part of the series but still complimented the movie well. No one will be disappointed when they see it.

This was excellent! Great character development that builds from scratch and takes a new and interesting twist on some core people. Since this is a fresh start on the series, many things are open to change and well understood within the context of the plot. And then there are some things that are new twists that are, well, just new. You won't be disappointed if you see this movie.

I just finished seeing the new movie and it was Frackin' Awsome!! You have to watch it from an altered time line sense and go with that. The stars did an amazing job and the special effects were spectacular. Take it from some one who has watched everything repeatedly and read most of the books. You will LOVE IT!

My wife and I got to see the movie before it came out and thought it was the best Star Trek movie to date. We really like how they tied in things from the original series. We like how the actors look like what the original cast might have looked like in their youth. The consistency with costume design in the original series was also a plus. The relationship between Spock and Uhura was distracting. That was not played out in the original series to my knowledge.

Not being a huge Star Trek fan it was odd that I was so looking forward to this movie and I was not let down. Sure there are a few issues with reality, but that's kinda what Star Trek has always been, right? They had plenty of action, great special effects and bursts of comedy that really kept it interesting, not to mention recalling people and comments from the original series.

I saw the film at a screening in LA Arclight on Tuesday night. IT BLEW MY MIND!!!
It's a reimagining (made up word) of the Star Trek Mythology and it was great. The selection of the cast, story line, AWESOME plot twists, introduction, random cameos and the design of the ships.
I enjoyed it so much I plan to see it on Saturday too!

I went to an advance screeing today of the film, and all I have to say is Abrams is a Genius. You can go in and have never seen a previous film and walk away amazed! A really well written story, with a bright future.

I was one of the few, who was able to see an early screening of the movie, DO NOT go see it!!!!!
The writing sucked, and directing sucked, the bridge had all kinds of Crazy Spot lights, gave me a headache, trust me, they are spending millions of dollars to trick you to see this movie. If you want to see the special effects for this movie, just watch the trailers.
Go spend your money on X-men or Terminator, or just save your money.
They spend most of the time showing you how the crew got together, and very little time fighting the bad guy.

I've seen it at the screening on 4-30-09 and move was great, except that I am not sure how this movie will fit with canon since it's more of alternate realtity than what has already been mentioned in TOS and TNG.

They can review it because it was shown in a secret showing this week. (You can read about the showing on IMDB.com I think). It garnered rave reviews and a 5 minute standing ovation.
However, I am rather annoyed when people haven't seen an advance review of it, and base their review solely on their opinion of a show or book (Twilight, Hannah Montana, etc........)
