I loved this movie. I used to watch all things Star Trek with my Son who is now 25. This Star Trek movie could be stand alone and still be entertaining to those who don't follow ST. The watching enjoyment is a step up for Trekkers because of the characters' casting and personality similarities to the original cast.
The humor was great. A Star Trek Comedy!

This movie is so much fun! It was funny, riveting, dramatic, had a couple scenes that will make you jump, and its the kind of movie that makes you wanna jump up and cheer! This movie is great and I cant wait for it on Blu-Ray!

Not a big fan of Star Trek but hubby is. I took him last night and we were WOWED by this. I loved it. The effects were awesome. I would highly recommend this movie. Hope part 2 comes out also.

Fun Summer Family Movie!!
I've seen the movie twice already. It is definitely worth seeing it in an IMAX theater, if possible. Naturally, the special effects are far superior to those in the original movie and series and the sound track is killer. I enjoyed the similarities of the current actors to the previous ones.

I was entertained by the new Star Trek and enjoyed the performances of the new cast. However, the movie just didn't "wow" me or pull me in. I could have waited and rented the movie. I really wanted to love this movie.

At first, I thought I wasn't going to like this movie because it was probably going to be a remake of some sort. However, I was very surprised and excited from the very start of the movie. The actors were awesome, the special effects were awesome and I loved the story line. I would recommend this to everyone.

It was a great experience especially for someone like myself who grew up with the series still in TV. I also watched the very first Motion Picture in theater. By watching this new start of fresh characters along with Leonard Nemoy as the crutial link from the old series, it gave me the feeling of continuation. Unlike the New Episodes with the new Capt Pickard, which really did not draw me in. This new movie threw me back in time during the period when I was still in grade school. Especially after hearing the old TV theme at the end credits. It was so good nobody left the theater. We all just sat there and enjoyed the music.
I SAY GO WATCH IT.

I am an old Star Trek fan all the way back to the Original episodes. I thought this movie was great and a lot better than I expected. Did not expect the twist the movie took at the begining. Hope this leads to "alternate universe" Trek shows and movies in the future. The actors did an excellent job protraying their characters. I knew who they were by their actions before their names were even identified. Live Long and Prosper.

I'm going to preface this by admitting that I am not really into Star Trek, but I still enjoyed this flick! I only went to see the movie b/c J. J. Abrams directed it and he created my fave TV show, Lost. The movie was terrific, even for someone like me, who has limited knowledge of Star Trek in general. I knew enough to get by. Actually, it makes me want to start watching the old episodes! Fantastic casting, great special effects and everyone in the movie theater seem enraptured. Definitely a must-see!! My husband loved it, but he's more of a sci-fi buff than I am!

A great flick! The youthful version of the main characters really hit the spot. Their personalties tie in seamlessly with "your grandfather's Star Trek." And that, in large part, makes the move truly great. Yes, the plotlines are good, the action outstanding, the acting very good, and they even do a decent job of screwing with the time contiuum-- always a very risky plot device. All of these things contribute to this being a very enjoyable flick. But the portayals of Spock, Kirk, McCoy, and Scotty -- and the development of Aruora (sp?), Sulu, Checkoff, more than they ever had during the show-- with their distinct personality traits not left to nuance, but focused on and even exaggerated, makes this film a must-see pleasure.

Kirk would have been in ICU after the bar fight. Nero & his ship:post-apocalyptic Sting video: incorrect lighting camera moves: black against black, impossible to read. Missed Shakespearean parlance in old trek. "Why'ou talkin' t'me man?. . ." too anachronistic. McCoy & Scotty: too much a caricature. Cutesy alien on Delta Vega—incongruous added nothing. Bring in Phinegan, Ruth, Helen Noel, Droxine, & Samuel T. Cogley instead. Monster on Delta Vega (Delta Vega? - "isn't a soul there"). Collapsing planet Vulcan—impressive. But why kill Amanda? Oh yeah, alternate timeline. If I hear "alternate timeline" again, I'm gonna scream. Sarek: too congenial and looked like an Al Jaffee drawing of a generic vulcan. Checkov was funny.

I was interested in seeing this movie and I finally saw it yesterday. I came out thinking that the cast was perfect and I really enjoyed Bones and Scotty the most. The action in it was also very good. JJ Abrams seems to have done it again and I can't wait to see what he has in store for the next movie.

This was fun when the characters were in development, but the technical effects overwhelmed the plot and the interaction between characters. Such a shame as the characters were well chosen, especially Captain Kirk.
The original premise was on the science, not the loudness of the effects. The producers should have followed this idea.

I thoroughly enjoyed this new chapter in the Star Trek saga. I have no bias towards a Star Wars or Star Trek movie formula. When reading reviews at the lower end of these reviews I feel these viewers have a dislike of the Star Wars formula. I also feel because of the "plot twist" at the beginning ( don't go late ), the Star Wars feel of the action can go hand in hand with the Star Trek formula. This movie can be viewed as both a foundation and continuation movie, because of this "plot twist". This lets the new actors reprise themselves into the old characters. I viewed this in the traditional indoor theater, not the IMAX version. The sound was loud at the beginning. I will most likely go again, soon.

Even Star Trek neophytes will love the story, the characters and the action, but for us trekkers from way back this movie surpassed the expectations! Not that mine were very high - I was prepared to be disappointed by a poorly conceived "prequel" - after all, the original actors really shaped these characters and who were these upstarts to come in and re-brand them? So I was truly surprised and then amazed at some of the portrayals - Kirk and Bones in particular. There was one subplot that was definitely unexpected, and while it was entertaining it doesn't seem true to the original series, but I'll let others decide that for themselves. I NEVER go see a movie twice in the theatre, but I may break my own rule for this one!

This is my second viewing and I could see it at least one more time. I haven't seen it on IMAX...

I have been a Trekker since it all began in the sixties. I have seen it all but this movie really had me sitting on the edge of my seat! Very un-predictable and filmed in way that really put you there, feeling every emotion and thought going through each characters mind. If you love STAR TREK or even if you don't, this movie had you involved at every moment.

My family has been huge Trekky fans for years! Even as a little girl, I enjoyed watching every episode with my Mom. By far our favorite of the Star Trek movies was Star Trek II, The Wrath of Khan...but this year's Star Trek movie was a definite at the top of the list. The action is a guarantee sit on the edge of your seat experience, but more than that, the actors chosen to play the younger parts of the famed characters was well done! My only disapointment was that we didn't see more of Scotty! A great actor and what a great comedy relief, it would have been nice to see more of him. With a fantastic twist ending, I am hoping that movie makers decide to take this in a whole new direction and give us a fresh new series of movies!

I was never much of a Star Trek fan but I did occcasionally watch the original TV Series. Because of that it was a lot of fun to see what is essentially a prequel to the show and learn about those original characters. The movie was captivating throughout and it did leave me wanting more. The only complaint I have is J.J. Abrams obsession with the handheld "shaky" camera. It get's a little annoying especially on a 68' wide screen. But it's a great movie so go see it!

I am somewhat of a "trekkie". I thought the film was very good how it focused on the early career and lives of the crew of the USS Enterprise. With todays special effects etc. It made for a lot of action, kept me entertained.
