This was a great movie from what I remember. I was way over intoxicated, and had a hard time focussing on the movie. Overall from what I was able to get from it I would totally recomend this movie, just with out the drinks!

Lives up to the comics!

Expecting the usual watered down translations from comics to screen, I was very surprised to come out of the theater with a smile and genuine excitement. The movie was a great blend of action, comedy and tension. Just when you thought the movie was going full tilt into one of these areas, it does a 180 and goes down another path. Just like watching a comic book come to life with a great splash of special effects! Definitely not a psycho drama like the Hulk by Ang Lee.

Downey Jr. IS Iron Man!

Of all the Marvel Comics made into a movie I would have to say that this one belongs at the top of the list. What puts this movie over the top is Robert Downey Jr. His portrayal of Tony Stark was acting genius.

Robert Downey Jr. was excellent. He was perfectly suited for the part of the charismatic, witty, and wry Tony Stark. All of the supporting actors were fantastic. The visuals were great. The movie combined great action sequences with humor and a solid plot. It also avoided the excessive campiness sometimes present in superhero movies.

I really enjoyed this movie. In fact, it is one of my favorite comic books turned movie (along with the First Batman and X-Men). The effects (especially sound) were amazing and the casting of Robert Downey Jr. was inspired He is perfect in this role.
Definitely see this one in a big theater with great sound - you won't be dissapointed.

Seeing nothing but red and gold

One of the best films produced by Marvel. I knew from the very beginning when the film was being made, Robert Downey Jr. HAD to have this role. And wouldn't you know it, he turns it into one of the best performances of his career.
Special Effects, supporting cast were all phenomenal.
Well worth the money AND more.

The Best Comic Book Movie in History

Downey could not have done a better job portraying Tony Stark...and the scene after the credits...BEAUTIFUL!!! The suit looked amazing, too. This was by far the greatest comic book movie to date...yes, even better than V for Vendetta and Sin City.

Iron Man lives up to Spider-Man

Marvel did it right this time. Their movies are most successful when they stay true to the stories and characters in their comic books. That's what they have done with IRON MAN.
Robert Downey Jr. is a charming, personable Tony Stark who is believable and also reflective of the comic book character. However, he's more likable than the character that appears in the comic, who is more suave.
Watching the film, I was reminded of how I felt when I saw the first SPIDER-MAN. Downey, Jr's portrayal of Stark/Iron Man is similar to how Tobey Maguire captured the character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
However, like SPIDER-MAN, the villain is very weak. Jeff Bridges as Obidiah Stane, who is n obscure character from the 1980s run of the comics that drove Stark to alcoholism and took over his company, does not pull off the villainy well as the Iron Monger. Unfortunately, Iron Man does not have a charismatic rogues gallery of villains like Spider-Man or Batman.
Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts and Terence Howard's James Rhodey serve as functional supporting characters, but again they play the Mary Jane/Harry Osborn role (Pepper is the assistant whom the boss has feelings where Mary Jane is the girl next door; Rhodes is the Harry Osborn best friend),
Though it is comparable to SPIDER-MAN in tone and feeling, IRON MAN is its own film. It does make the same mistakes DAREDEVIL made by being a Spider-Man carbon copy. It is an entertaining film that both comic and non-comic readers will enjoy.
Definitely stay at the end of the credits. Comic book fans will not be disappointed.

By far, one of the best movies of the year! Well shot, excellent characters, superb special effects and a great story line!
I took my entire family to see this movie during the special pre-screening on the 1st of May and we are going back to see it again over the weekend.
I would recommend this movie to every demographic as a cool, action packed, on the edge of your seat, fun movie.
Can't stand waiting for a sequel.

Iron Man is Rock Solid

Most superhero movies have tedious "origin" stories that take up the first hour of the first film and slow it down... Iron Man does tell his origins, but they are exciting, and make sense. The characters are fully realized and excellently portrayed by the talented cast. Things start with a bang and only get bigger. If you like action movies, comic books, or even a bit of sci-fi, you will probably like this one. I really do recommend this movie.
Don't forget to stay until the very end of the credits, there's a special scene you don't want to miss.

Finally you get to see what Tony Stark is all about. I found it to be a nice opener for a line of sequels (wether on the movies or straight to DVD) there were tons of hints to other possible Marvel movies as well. Robert Downey Jr did a great job.

This movie was great! Robert Downey Jr. was great for Iron man. Jeff Bridges also showed he is good at playing other roles. If you like technology, engineering, gagets, weapons, and defense technology, you will love this movie. I action scenes could have been a little longer. The movie had good humor, and you get an overall fun and good feel from watching it. Definitely a must see!

To be perfectly honest, I can't think of a single flaw in this movie. As a comic book movie (wherein comic book physics overrule normal physics), it's nigh perfect.

For those of you unaware, Tony Stark (played perfectly by Robert Downey Jr.) is a billionaire playboy genius whose company (Stark Industries) is a leading weapons developer for the US. In the original comic, he was badly injured and captured while in the Far East (Vietnam, I believe, since it was written in the 60s) where he learned firsthand that his weapons were being used against the troops he designed them for. To escape from his captors (who want him to build weapons for them), he constructs the Mark I suit which is rudimentary but allows him to get to safety.

The movie updates this tale by having him be injured/captured in Afghanistan. The bad guys are an organization known as the Ten Rings, which is clearly a homage to a major Iron Man villain known as the Mandarin. Stark actually sees American servicemen killed by his weapons and is horrified to see these terrorist types equipped with the gear that he built for the USA. As before, he builds the Mark I, kicks a crapload of terrorist butt, and returns home to try and change the direction of his company.

There's no shortage of action in this flick, which shouldn't be a surprise since its a movie based on a comic book, but I was surprised at the amount (and effectiveness) of the humor present. It's also a good thing that comic book physics are being employed, 'cause I counted at least three times where a real person would have died.
Visually, the armor is awesome and the CG work is top notch. As it should be, it was mostly seamless throughout, with only one or two instances that leaped out to me as unmistakeably CG work.

The cast is also first rate. As I said earlier, Downey does a great job with Stark, bringing across the womanizing, borderline alcoholic genius to life. Gwyneth Paltrow is equally great as Stark's long-suffering executive assistant and potential love interest, Pepper Potts; I was especially appreciative that the story actually knew how to use her to great effect, something that even Batman Begins can't say. Unlike the movie versions of Lois Lane or MJ Watson or Mrs. Tom Cruise, Pepper is actually useful for more than just being the damsel in distress. And who knew that Jeff Bridges could look so cool?

So, after having seen it once, I give it a solid 4 Suits out of 5, reserving the right to increase or decrease my ranking as time passes. Trust me, I fully intend to watch it again. The only drawback to it tonight was that there wasn't a new trailer attached for The Dark Knight, though the Indy & Hulk trailers were nice...

In my opinion, this is by far the best mainstream comic book movie ever. I'm not going to get too much into it, but in the past many comic book movies (Fantastic Four, Spider-Man 3, X-men) have failed terribly from a comic book-to-film translation. This movie however, was the opposite. In short, I loved this movie, will see it at least 2 more times in theatres, and will highly recommend it to everyone I know.

The Marvel Universe just seems to get better when their comics hit the silver screen. Robert Downey Jr. plays a great Tony Stark while Pepper, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, struggles to give even a mediocre performance. The visual effects are worthy of the Marvel franchise giving each shot of Iron Man the justice he deserves. However, despite the stunning visuals of the iconic Iron Man the movie lacks the emotional and directorial punch that X-Men successfully pioneered. The movie is slightly anti-climactic but worth seeing.

Not you average super-hero film.

Let's start off with my opinion right up front. Iron Man is a really fun film and everyone in the theater seemed to enjoy it last night. They were many moments in the movie that drew huge laughs and outright applause. Everyone seemed to go home happy.
The interesting thing to me was that the movie's pacing seemed different than your standard super-hero flick. There was a lot less violent action and a lot more focus on development of the armor. It wasn't all about fight scenes and non-stop explosions at all.
I pondered this as I went to sleep last night and realized that Iron Man isn't really a super-hero movie. It isn't really an action flick at all. It's an inventor movie. It's all about Tony Stark dreaming and building the suit. Most of the movie is focused on this process with Tony designing two suits in a row. And, except for one girl in the back, everyone in the theater seemed to enjoy it. The film focused Tony's experiments and his design efforts. If there was action in the middle act it was non-violent but exciting action as the suit was tested and the challenges were test failures. All of this doesn't sound very exciting to describe, but it was very enjoyable.
I tried to think of other movies that focused on invention as the theme of the whole movie and I didn't come up with any others really. I'm sure they are out there, but mostly this concept is a scene. Television has used this idea more successfully. 80s shows like the A-Team and Macgyver were all about the invention and really the story setup (like in Iron Man) was just a justification for the main characters to build something cool. That's what Iron Man is as a movie and it does it really well. There are loads of tech gadgets that are visually fun. The process is well-paced and the actual violent action (a total of 4 scenes one of which starts the film) is parceled out over time to make sure that people think it's an action film.
This, of course, begs the question of what they will do in subsequent films (and, oh yes, there will be subsequent films). I don't think they can recapture the same formula in another movie. Granted, the comics have spent years focusing on Tony Stark designing new and different armors. But I don't see this working as the basis for another movie. They will have to go more conventional (or do something else original, we can hope).
I am impressed by the different path this film has taken and I think it will lead to a lot of success.
