Good movie to start off summer

Movie flies off the gate with action. You get to know how Iron Man gets created and the way it changed Tony Stark from being this uncaring sob to a man that wants to make a change for the good. Watch it, you won't be dissapointed.

The Making of a Machine

Very well done.
I learned why Marvel didn't license their stuff to other people. By Marvel creating a studio/theater division, it insured that it's projects would be done right.
I'm sure that it will be different for all of us depending on when you see it and where you're at. In Miami I think the best word to describe the vibe would be "frenzy". The first two shows where completely sold out. If I hadn't gotten my ticket in advance on movietickets.com I would have been out fo luck. At 9:30 the only tickets left where for the 12:10. And there were lines everywhere... The movie isn't even scheduled to be released until May 2nd, this was on May 1st.
This thing is a machine in the making. Their biggest challenge is going to be keeping the cast together. If they can do that, this may end up outdoing Spidey. I'm gonna be interested in the debate as more people see it. But you should definitely see it. I didn't come away from it feeling the same way I did when I first saw Superman, but it's still excellent. The format they do it in chronologically is different and fresh. You really learn the entire story of Tony Stark and Iron Man. The character development is very well done. There is no question there's going to be sequels. And from the foreshadowing you'll see... They're gonna be ten times better than this one. And I thought this one was awful good.

Make Mine Marvel

The Marvel Comics movies are back on track. After the dissapointment of X-Men 3 and Spidey 3, Marvel knocks Iron Man out of the park. Robert Downey is the perfect Tony Stark. The entire cast is great. And of course the suits, both practical and CG, are killer. The movie flies by. My only regret is that I wish it was longer to allow for a bit more action. Stay through the credits. There's a nice surprise.

Great acting, good plot, great special effects!.
The film employed some CGI, but what it had was not very notisable.
This movie was very entertaining and I feel this is THE BEST or in the top three comic book hero movies ever!

Great Fun, Downey Jr. Terrific

I had never heard of Iron Man. I'm not a comic reader, but this film is so well written and the acting so on target, that I found it and incredibly fun ride. Downey Jr. is perfect as the wisecracking Stark, I found myself interested in everything he did. Jeff Bridges perfect as the baddy and Gwyneth a great Pepper Potts. I'm not a huge fan of CGI (most of the time it looks unrealistic and tends to take me out of the movie, since it's obvious there's not a real person there), but the CGI was so good in this movie most of the time, I forgot there was no way Robert Downey, Jr. could be flying around in that contraption.

Can't wait for the next one......

While watching the movie there were moments where I felt that it was overhyped. Then the more I thought of it, I realized that it was probably the best superhero movie that I have seen in a long time. I'm not saying definitely, because I may be having a lapse in memory. I just feel that someone would be hard pressed to be disappointed by this movie. Congratulations to Downey, Jr and Paltrow for their awesome performances.

Iron Man is a fun ride!

I had high expectations for this movie going in and was not disappointed. Iron Man works on many levels and has so many elements to make it appealing - Classic popcorn movie, excellent comic book adaptation, clever story, lots of character growth with humor and great actors showing their stuff. Robert Downey, Jr is Iron Man and this is easily the best superhero movie since Spiderman. Note: If you are a comic book nerd who is familiar with the Marvel Universe, I urge to stay until after the credits - Jon Favreau leaves a present at the very end for you!

Story, stuck close to the original. Robert Downey, Jr. was an excellant
choice for Stark. I was a little worried, when I saw there were six
writers, but they seemed to meld together well.
The special effects will blow you away..
I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars, becasue it seemed to drag a bit in the middle, but story required it and you need sometime to catch your breath

Among the best of the genre

One of the few of the crop of "comic book" movies that treats the subject matter with some respect. RDJr is spot on as Tony Stark. He even gives the character more charm than the source material would suggest, which is almost unheard of in a genre of films that is littered with angst-y cardboard cutouts of characters that have grown far beyond their "kiddie fare" roots.
Looking forward to the next, if the quality remains this high.

This movie the Awwwsomes!

Iron Man was able to "steel" my attention within about 19 seconds as the glorious 80's tuners blared through that boombox in the humvee. I felt like I was there (until people started getting killed; from that point I became a comfortable viewer). Robert Downey Jr. was the casbah-rcoking protagonist, a cocky middle-aged weapon specialist who after getting captured by a group of "terrorist-esque" forces learns that his life's work was being used for the bads. He spends a lot of time with his little robot buddies building a nifty suit made of gold-titanium alloy that allows him to fly to Kmart and buy DVD's as soon as they come off of the truck. All in all, fantastic flick; I would recommend to a friend or an animal.

Great Start to the Summer!

To add to what some other reviewers have been saying, Robert Downey Jr. IS this movie. Without him it's another bland "action packed" superhero bore-fest. He makes it hilarious, and mostly because the movie doesn't take itself too seriously, it works on so many levels. The special effects are very good, but the main draw is the characters, as it should be. While this won't end up being the best blockbuster this summer, with such a huge lineup, it will probably be one of the moere memorable ones for me.

The best Marvel Comics movie by far!

Not to take away anything from other Marvel (or DC) Comics movies, especially the Spider-Man and X-Men movies, but this one is better than them all!

It has just the right amount of humor, action, drama, and mystery to appeal to everyone. The language wasn't too bad, better than I thought it would be...I still don't understand why bad language is needed at all.

Robert Downey Jr. did a great job, Jeff Bridges was great, Gwyneth Paltrow was great, and Terrence Howard did a great job. I can't imagine a better cast.

The special effects were awsome...not too much and very realistic. Both the music and sound effects were great, although it would have been nice to hear the song Iron Man at Iron Man's first appearance in the movie. And, the storyline was great...a great opening to what will hopefully be at least a collection of 3 movies (plus maybe a couple of Avengers movies).

The only thing I didn't like was having to leave the theater! I heard some felt the movie is too long...I say it isn't long enough (just because I was so into the movie I hated to see it end).

From the opening song (Back In Black) to the closing song (Iron Man)...this movie rocks! Which ever movie we get first, Avengers or Iron Man 2, me and my family will be there opening night.
Go see it...go enjoy it...I think you will love it too!

Went into this movie not expecting much, what a surprise. A very good solid with well thought out characters and a plot that gave you all the answers you needed, even if you didn't realize it at the time. The acting was great, Gwyneth Pal trow was great in a small role, and Jeff bridges was very good and believable. Robert Downey however stole the show, he was awesome, this is the role that can put him back in Hollywood's favor. Make sure you stay to the end of the credits for a small surprise. This was as good as the first spider man and a real surprise. You cant go wrong seeing this one.

Iron Man is definitely a great movie to start off this summer of blockbusters. Story was good and well adapted. Towards the end the story seemed to transition too fast. There was also a nice mix of comic relief as well. And the effects, it's ILM nuff' said.

The special effects were very good. Robert Downey, Jr.'s performance was better than the other actors in the film. For an action/special effects film, it delivered well. The movie did not drag on while attempting to develop the story and characters. The only thing that would have made this better for me was to have one more fight sequence.

MARVEL's new contender

Two years ago at Comic-Con I had to begin imagining an Iron Man movie. In my opinion it never would have worked because I always saw Iron Man as a team player (Avengers) or a complete (censored). And Iron Man while well known to Marvel readers isn't the most well known to the general public. How wrong I was and yet right at the same time.
In the flick Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey, Jr. indeed has a support team, it's just not the Avengers (yet). Jim Rhoady Rhoads, Pepper Potts, an A.I. version of Jarvis, robots, there are tons of support characters and they all shine amazingly.
What makes this movie so oddly enduring though is the fact that Tony Stark is an (jerk) and you want him to succeed. In fact his wit and snide sarcasm offer many of the comedic elements of the film. And for a "military movie" it certainly needed something to remind you, it's a comic book film through the earlier segments.
The story is pretty much right out of an Iron Man comic, Obidiah Stane tries to take over Stark Industries, builds a gigantic copy of Tony's first Iron Man suit, huge battle ensues in the streets of what seems to be L.A. (interesting break from the standard setting of NY) and hopefully The Incredibe HULK team were taking notes.
It's really just a great, fun film. Although, much like the 2002 HULK, I'm not sure the marketing to children is a great idea, there is a bit of drinking (we all know why) and womanizing going on and it's not a kids hero we're dealing with. Yeah he's got the cool suit and all, but this is a teenager to adult film. Although with how screwed up most American kids are....who cares, take the whole family. In the scheme of Marvel films this is close to Spider-Man 1 & 2 and the first two X-Men, but is more light-hearted like Spider-Man. And for the first time ever in a "modern" comic film we get to see the start of frachise bleed. S.H.E.I.L.D. makes a clever appearance, and those who watch the credits until the end will be handsomely rewarded. Plus we'll se Downey in the HULK later this summer. For it's first independent (commercially distributed by Paramount) film, MARVEL hits it out of the ball park.

Iron Man Soars

I absolutely loved this film. It is one of if not the best summer blockbusters I have ever seen. It's also now one of my favorite comic book films of all time. It has everything you could ask for from this type of film, a great cast with Robert Downey Jr. knocking it out of the park, but everyone else is great too. Excellent visual and practical effects that are very believable and look amazing, great action, a lot of good humor and great direction and cinematography. Enough from me, just go see it! I'm going again this weekend and I almost never do that. Be sure to stay after the credits for an extra scene with Samuel L Jackson!

Marvel's done it again!!!

Iron Man was awesome! Not only did Robert Downey Jr. embody the role of Tony Stark but he owned the role of Iron Man. His witty, sarcastic, charming character radiated off the scene leaving all of us watching in awe. The surprises for the true fans were priceless. You must stay after the credits have roled to see what I'm talking about. Overall, I'd say that it's Marvel at its best so far. Jon Favreau rocks!!!
