While I loved the first film, this Narnia seemed to do nothing more than pull me in, take my money, and send me on my way. I didn't really feel like it ever took off from the ground and became it's own film. It relied so heavily on things that happened in the previous movie, that I had a hard time enjoying the present film. The plot seemed very redundant to every other fantasy story I've ever read or watched and the action was very slow. There was much more slow-building than fast-moving. While I don't discount the movie as a waste of time--far from it--I don't consider it a classic in any way. It didn't do for me what the first film did. If you're looking for a good family film with action and comedy all the way through, check out Speed Racer. If you have an older audience, try Iron Man. Both are much better if you have to choose. Either way, we are off to a good summer movie season start.

Epic battles, all hope lost, last minute calvary charges by the Lion - this all seems familiar... But, it's the story (or close enough to it) that C.S. Lewis wrote and Disney is doing it justice! It's good for kids over 7 - with just enough graphic violence to make them feel like they are getting away with something while not inducing nightmares.

Overall, the film was good. I am a big fan of the books and so I was disappointed to see events and hear dialogue that was not a part of the original book. I feel that it veered away from the book more than Harry Potter or LOTR. Still, there was a lot of action and it was quite entertaining. I was surprised by the violence and death - it was not gruesome at all, but it didn't seem like PG-violence.

Yeah, it was changed from the book.... show me a movie that has been a book and WASN'T changed.
Very enjoyable. I've always thought this would be one of the weakest stories to make a movie on. The Voyage of the Dawn Tredor should be much better. But this movie they've done an excellent job of making entertaining, and loosely following the book.

Magnificent!!! C. S. Lewis would be extremely proud at how this story was so well portrayed in this movie. Truly an epic of this time. The animal characters will leave you with your mouth wide open at how real they seem to be. The human characters capture you. Truly made into something that all ages young and old will love. Big fan of the The Chronicles of Narnia and have to say that this movie stayed true to the story. Thank you for that. This by far will be one classic that all will want to have. Can't wait for the next!

I would have given this movie 5 stars, except that it does stray from the storyline. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen the movie by telling what the scene was; suffice it to say that, even though the scene wasn't in the books, the action was amazing. I do feel, however, that they shouldn't have included it. The scene wasn't necessary, it lengthened the film, and it made Peter (my personal hero) look bad.
When the movie was over, I didn't want to leave the theatre; I felt like I was walking out of Narnia. That's how amazing the cinematography is. I was transported to Narnia for 2.5 hours and it was glorious. Go see this movie!

If I don't compare this movie to the book, it is a very enjoyable, action-packed movie. If you are looking for the book on screen, you will not find it here. Adamson took EXTREME liberties with the plot. However, the actors were all very impressive, as was the cinematography. I was pleased that much of the theological part of the story, written by C.S. Lewis, was still in the movie. If anything, the added plot helped to enhance that. The movie is a bit violent for young children but they will delight in the characters of Reepicheep, Trufflehunter, the Talking Bear, and Aslan, himself.

From the first scenes of this movie, the attention they paid to detail was impressive. Like many who love the books, I was disappointed at first that the movie does not exactly follow the original plot precisely, but then I realized that this made the movie more pleasurable for me, since I then had no idea how things would go and could be as surprised as someone who had not read the book first by what happened next. And I came to realize that the movie is still true to the spirit and theme of the book and to the nature of the original characters. This was a great movie, and I don't usually enjoy movies that deviate from the original plot so much. I hope they do an even better job on "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" which is my favorite of all the Narnia books.

Our family loves the Narnia books (all 7), and eagerly awaited this movie. Loved the first one. This one does not disappoint either. I agree that it is definitely a sequal that makes more sense after seeing the first movie. The telling of the story follows a different order than the book, but enacted telling is by very nature different, and that didn't bother me much. The added scenes worked OK, but there was enough in the book that was NOT used that there was really no reason to invent new conflicts. It was beautiful cinematography and costuming. Reepicheep was captured perfectly, as were many of the characters, though they were not all named or "developed" as they are in the book. Edmund was just as well-acted as last time. Susan was fierce and inspiring, but Peter was portrayed as being a bit too dark for my liking. Aslan and Lucy remain the heartfelt core of the story, as they should.

My inclination is to be less critical of this film than I would be of a film for which I had higher expectations. As long as you think of this as a high-end children's film it is fine entertainment. The predictable story moves along. The visuals, as one might expect, are well done. The exterior scenery, much of it (to my surprise) in Poland, is stunning.
There are two reasons I am cool on the film overall. Plot development and acting. With few exceptions, the acting is the movie's greatest weakness. The characters are wooden and two dimensional. For the four leads it is as if trekking back and forth to Narnia is nothing. Happens all the time. Of course it doesn't. There are early hints Peter and Susan are not well adjusted to life in the "real" world. But that is of little consequence to the story. For all the panning the director does across their faces, there is little wonder or urgency communicated. Ben Barnes sells Caspian a bit better and he is a worthy heart throb - a young Keannu Reaves. The villians are dime store, largerly identified by their dark dress and Spanish accents. Peter Dinklage as Trumpkin gives the best performance by far. Him I believe throughout. He is able with his facial expressions to give his character the depth and nuance all others lack. Second best is Warwick Davis as Nikabrik, Trumpkin's dark companion. His convincing dark side lends the movie its only modestly surprising and short-lived twist. Eddie Izzard is entertaining as Reepicheep, a muskrat sized mouse - but the character is as much distraction as entertainment.
As for plot, my advice is simply don't think too much. Stop reading here if you don't want me to spoil any story elements for you. For a movie described by many advance critics as "darker than the first" there was surprisingly little drama. Did they mean dark as in lighting and costumes? Because there is little tension in the formation of the alliance between Caspian and the Narnians - it takes about 90 seconds of screen time. And the same goes for the relationship between Peter and Caspian. Peter's ill-fated assault on the Castle Miraz is never explained - what was the point? The tantalizing but inconsequential cameo by The White Witch and a couple of her dark minions - what was the point? If the horn has existed all this time, why weren't the sons and daughters of Adam summoned when the Telemarines first waged their attack on Narnia? And why did Aslan hang out in the forest and let the Narians get slaughtered? And when Lucy rides to him, why do they roll around in the forest having a cheery reunion while more Narians are being slaughtered? And why after 1300 years have Telmarines - whose ancestors were pirates and who launch fireworks when Miraz's son is born - not developed weapons beyond swords crossbows?
Bottom line, totally suspend your disbelief and just enjoy the show. Just don't try to peek behind the curtain.

This movie is the stereotypical sequel. The overall experience and quality of the movie is definitely a step down from the first one. It is not like other recent movies based on series of books where the quality of the films is maintained or even increases as they progress through the series. Although plot follows the books reasonbly closely, the themes and feel of the movie are much less true to the book than in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Also, Disney seems to have narrowed the target audience for this movie: it seems to be aimed primarily at younger teens and preteens - those who are young enough to idolize Peter and Susan, rather than having the mass appeal to a wide range of ages like the first one.

This movie was absolutely terrible. I am a huge fan of the books and the symbolism contained within them. The makers of this movie did not stay true to the author or his intentions. They were trying to play to the audience to make money to fill their greedy pockets without considering that these are books with beautiful symbolism. The story in the books was strong enough. I don't understand why they added completely different scenes and an unnecessary love story. I loved the first movie, but this one was a disappointment. I cringe to think what they will do to the next films.

Prince Caspian far exceeded my already high expectations. I really liked The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but this movie blew it out of the water!!! The storyline was rich with twists and turns that kept you on the edge of your seat. It was more intense, but that was offset some by some very well timed humor. The bad: With all the hype and the previews for this film, I expected a well-paced, engaging movie. Instead I spent half of it looking at my watch and wondering how much longer it was going to be. Some of the effects were spectacular, but many of the creatures this time around (like the bear and most of the centaurs and minotaurs) looked about the equivalent of a guy in a Godzilla suit instead of the seamless CGI of the first film. The pacing was very slow. Caspian's actor did not have the presence required for the title role. The good: Some of the effects were stellar, like the ice wall barrier keeping the White Witch imprisoned, the lead minotaur, the armor and masks of the Telmarines, and the griffins. There were some really funny lines, almost exclusively delivered by Peter Dinklage as Trumpkin who was a highlight. And Eddie Izzard as Reepicheep and his mouse brigade stole the entire movie. It is worth seeing for the good points but I wouldn't want to sit through it again.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian does honor to CS Lewis in that it stays true to his writings and strikes the perfect balance between action, character development, and a balanced plot.
Is Narnia 2 better than Narnia 1? No. Neither is it worse. I see them both as the same movie … as I will see all seven movies as being the same movie. Because the story is continual throughout all seven books, each movie is not a movie in its own right, but part of a greater whole. They all come together to form a marvelous story of fantasy, drama, and action.
What struck me the most about this movie, as with Narnia 1, were the spiritual and Biblical applications. CS Lewis did a great job in relating the Bible with his stories of Narnia.
As in the first movie, in Narnia 2, you cared about each of the characters … their struggles, their triumphs, their choices, their challenges … Even the bad guys, you cared about them because they represent the fallen world in which we live. They weren’t portrayed as being all bad because they are bad guys. You saw some good in them, too, though they denied the good aspects in their natures and chose evil in the end.
You cared about the good guys for the same reason why you cared about the bad guys, except for the opposite reason: they represent those few who actually bother to read the Bible and do what it says: to decide to be a disciple of Christ and get baptized. They weren’t portrayed as being all good because they are good guys. You saw some bad in them, too, though they denied the evil aspects in their natures and chose good in the end. This strikes a relatable chord with me, because I realize that we are all sinful people, and though some may choose to follow Christ, there is still the sinful nature there that must be denied. Sometimes disciples of Christ make godly choices, other times they make ungodly choices … why? Because they are human and humans make mistakes. So it was with Caspian, the Pevensie children, Trumpkin, and the others.
All in all, a wonderful movie. And, I read that some think this movie would not be right for kids. I beg to differ on that. I think that if parents discuss the movie with their children afterwards, then it can be a real benefit and growing experience for their children. But that requires parents to take an active role in their childrens’ lives.
Also, I have to touch on a societal hypocrisy I have noticed: parents will by things like Grand Theft Auto 4 for their kids, but Narnia 2 is feared to be harmful to these kids?? Hold on a sec … and Grand theft Auto 4 is not? That’s a hypocritical contradiction and we need to check our perspectives … Narnia 2 is perfect for kids.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Nowhere near as good as the first one (or the book, but then, they never are). The movie was totally disneyed, comeing in at two hours and twenty minutes of fight, fight, fight and no character work at all. Oh, and two characters making googly eyes at each other (which definitely wasn't in the book). The wonderful back story of the novel as well as the wistful magic of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was completely ignored to make it fast paced, presumably to pander to the attention span of younger audiences. But I hope it makes boodles of cash so they will make Dawn Treader and fix the problems...
