I enjoyed it. I took my 6yr old daughter and my teenage sister they both enjoyed it. The humor felt more grown up and I didn't care for the kids behavior. The morals of the story also seemed to be more towards older children. We also read the book before we saw the movie so she could follow the movie better. I think we really like the wild things costumes. They were so detailed and great to see. So go and form your own opinion. It wasn't horrible. :)

It was entertaining to watch but i had had enough around half way thru the movie. The 8 year old that went with me was very fidgety and the 11 year old seemed to sit still and take interest. I dont think the plot was all that great but the characters were interesting to watch. I'm glad I saw it but wouldnt go again.

I took my 6, 8 and 13 yr old and none of them caught the underlying moral message in the movie. I wouldn't expect them to either. It was over their heads for sure. There were a few parts they enjoyed but some of the parts seemed too intense for them. I was really excited about seeing this movie because I had the book as a child, but I would have to say the book was better that the movie.

We made a play date out of going to see the movie.
The movie was so slow that almost 30 min into it my 4yr old said, "mommy, is this the movie?" This film is not appropriate for children as it depicts some degrees of violent behavior (my oldest child who is 6yrs old actually started crying during one scene) as well as lessons that small children just wont understand.
I believe that the hype was mostly adult-driven stemming from memories of the book we read when we were younger. While I dont recall the book ever being good enough to make into a movie, I believe that it was the sense of remembering something from our youth that fueled us enough to take our children. Overall, I give it a D.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I feel that the movie feel short of my expectations. I think that they did an excellent job at promoting this movie... maybe too good.
Visually the movie is amazing. But, I failed to connect with any of the characters... even Max, who I managed to connect with in a tiny book, but not here in the movie.
As my wife put it, there are way too many scene's with monsters and/or Max staring off in the distance pondering, something...
I actually found it hard to stay awake in parts. I was also VERY annoyed with how they inserted quotes from the original... The worst being the "Don't go, we'll eat you up with love you so"
People actually cried at this part... REALLY!? Crying!? argh!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Thankfully I had an idea of what to expect, a friend had read the book adaptation by Eggars and warned it was going to be a dark film about a disturbed child.
I felt really badly for all of the parents (and there were many) with children crying their eyes out. The movie might be better served with a PG13 rating.
I think there are a whole lot of parents who were looking for a nice entertaining movie to enjoy with their kids who are feeling misled.
It was a clever story, with multiple layers...but weeping children all around the theater was pretty distracting and distrubing.
I will see it again when it comes out on video.

Brilliant! Ignore the moralistic nonsense of some reviewers. The film is tender, compassionate and incredibly moving. It explores the world of a boy who is beginning to intuit the complexity of the world around him throuh his own anger and loss of control. The movie is lyrical and deeply existential in its treatment of loneliness. I took my 9 and 5 year old to see it. My 5 year old cried, but mostly out of compasion for Max. I find nothing wrong with a child being moved to tears by a powerful film. This is not Disney and those who prefer it should stay at home.

I thought the movie was wonderful and very true to the spirit of the book. My six-year-old loved it too - I think he thoroughly identified with Max and his troubles, and the monsters are so engaging that it doesn't matter if kids don't understand all the finer points of the plot. They understand the raw emotions being shown by monsters who talk like kids.

In our group of five there was a full spectrum of reactions: A 24 year-old who had loved the book as a child hated the movie; A mom who had loved the book from reading it to the 24 year-old loved it; A 22 year-old who didn't remember the book very well was mildly positive about the movie; An unrelated 25 year-old man liked the dirt-clod fights; I alternated between liking it (costumes, acting, editing) and not liking it (dark, depressing, hopeless). Maybe it's a Rorschach test for how you feel about your own childhood.

I took grandsons ages 5 and 4. They were clearly bored at first but once the action started they were really scared. By 3/4 through, several small kids around us began to cry and our little guys announced that they didn't want to see any more and wanted to leave. It is NOT for kids under 8 at a minimum. Very dark storyline. I hated the dirt clot fight, the huge "monsters" hurting each other etc. All set a very poor example for impressionable kids. I was very disappointed. The costumes and set design were fabulous so kudos for that.

My 9 and 11 year old boys loved this movie. It was a little slow at some points, but they never lost interest. I don't think younger kids could handle the length of the movie. Also, the movies messages go right over their head. Definitely worth seeing if your kids are old and mature enough.

This movie started out great. However, about 1/2 hour in I could tell they were searching for some kind of story line to make it into a full length feature movie. Well they never found it. I couldn't wait for it to be over. Even my seven year old started fidgeting about half way in the movie.

Despite being beautiful cinematography, great costumes and animotronics, the story was way over my head, and I'm 33yrs. old. My 12 yr old daughter liked it, but couldn't really say why. I suspect it was the look of the film. I kept searching for a moral or lesson, and my daughter replied, "Does it need a lesson?" 'Well,' I thought, 'no, but I think there was one in there somewhere?"

Masterful in its interpretation and magical to look at. The story is true to the book and the characters are incredibly well developed. Much more adult oriented then I would have suspected and a bit frightening at times, so I would not consider taking children younger than 7. Read the book many times before seeing the movie.

Not what I expected at all. Very dark, dreary and depressing. The beginning was actually disturbing when Max was chasing the dog like a wild man throughout the house.
Much too dark and dreary, almost scary for some of the younger kids. The 5 year old was somewhat bored at times. No, I'm afraid I wouldn't recommend this one. That's what I get for reading the critic's review.

I took my three children to see this movie. It had a slow start. Once he got to where the wild things were it was all about morals and life lessons. It was a nice thought but come on it should have been more children based (where they could understand the plot). My daughter s are 10 and 7 and my son is 8, they all wanted to leave early saying they didnt like it. Was overall ok as far as the looks of it but come one...we want excitement and thrills not a lesson in family values!

Good movie, lots of parallels between the boy and the main "Wild Thing". I took my kids (4 and 7 yrs) but I'm not sure I would recommend this for children. At least, not at the theater. Being at home watching the movie might be better. There were intense moments fueled with emotion and I spent a lot of time explaining why things were happening. I am a tad bit embarassed to say that I was probably the only person crying at the end of the movie.

This story is a classic but the movie is not. It is dark, depressing, violent and scary. I am very disappointed the director did NOT keep with the fundamental point of the entire book - Max's punishment! Most of the wild things in the movie are suffering from severe depression and some had serious anger management issues. Max’s Mother is too busy with her boyfriend to go see what her son had created. Max is a child with serious anger issues, left alone far too often, who has no friends, is seriously missing his father who no longer lives with them and he has no friends! This is not appropriate for a G movie. I left the movie sad, depressed and grossed out by Max being eaten and the amputation of the chicken wild thing!
No, I do not recommend this movie.
